About
History and hospitality...two words that have been at the foundation of Belle Meade for over 200 years. In the 1800s, Belle Meade was one of the largest and wealthiest private estates in Nashville, raising the nation's finest thoroughbred race horses. Having hosted celebrities, presidents, generals, and a wealth of revered turfmen, Belle Meade became Nashville's first attraction. Located just seven miles west of downtown Nashville, today this sanctuary of Southern hospitality offers Guided Tours, Food and Wine Pairings, Bourbon Tastings, Segway Tours, outstanding Gift Shops, Nashville's first Winery, an on-site Restaurant, an Outdoor Game Court, and some of the most beautiful Grounds in Nashville.

- TravelGuru2023007Los Angeles, California1 contributionPicture PerfectBeautiful property. Excellent Mansion tour. Wine tasting was amazing Travis made it perfect. I wish we had been told about booking bourbon tasting an hour in advance when we arrived. We weren’t able to attend due to that fact despite tour not starting for 40min.Visited December 2022Written December 20, 2022
- LCRizkDearborn, Michigan2 contributionsBeautiful but crowdedThe site is great. The tour provided a lot of information. However, they have too many people on the tour. The rooms are too crowded and it’s hard to move around to see everything. Same for the complimentary wine tasting. The shop is very small and you’re all crowded in there and someone walks around pouring wine. You’re not even sure what you’re drinking.Visited December 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten December 30, 2022
- Odyssey4975452002Cleveland, Ohio1 contributionGreat tour full of history with taste of winesGreat location for both wine lovers and non-wine drinkers. The detailed and friendly tours including mansion and whisky are fantastic to bring you back to 1800s. We stayed since 10:45 am to 5:00 pm since it's a good place for us to indulge us with wines and historic stories.Visited December 2022Written January 5, 2023
- imarieminutillo1 contributionNew Years Wine TourStaffing was kind and super helpful. The wine tasted great. Easy to taste and ask questions. Did the ground tour and just explored the location. Games were out to play like corn hole and Bacci. I would like to try the tasting tour that pairs the wine with food and mansion tour. The whole winery is beautiful and reading the history is interestingVisited January 2023Written January 5, 2023

Thomas was an excellent tour guide and the tour was very informative!! The wine tasting was also delicious and we had a few bottles shipped home to us. - Cindy SAustin, Texas19 contributionsWorth a visitThe history was wonderful. As one who didn't grow up in the USA, the history of the South is fascinating to me. Belle Meade has a rich history which affects us all today. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and gave a rich history of the families who lived there.Visited January 2023Written January 18, 2023
- K1141OBamybcfDowners Grove, Illinois1 contributionSo soThe mansion is kind of cool to look at, but the tour was just all right. And we could only see part of the house because you had to pay for a whole other tour if you wanted to see the other part of the house. You cannot just buy a ticket and get a tour of everything… But the house isn’t that big so that would be very easy to do all in all you can go see a lot of better old mansions, and take tours there.Visited January 2023Traveled with familyWritten January 24, 2023
- Getaway231658799322 contributionsWhat a gift!I love history and what a gift Belle Meade Historic Site and Winery is. Our tour guide was fun, engaging and so knowledgeable. The tour of the house wasn't too long and yet we didn't feel rushed either and the grounds are easy to navigate on your own and the information signs made you feel like you were on a guided tour.Visited January 2023Written January 27, 2023
- Casey D3 contributionsWine & Food Tasting is a must, especially if you are Gluten Free!A friend and I booked the Wine & Food Tasting. I am gluten-free, and they were able to accommodate me. Gluten-free foods can be difficult and not always tasty – let me know you that everything was SO enjoyable within this tasting. We ran into the chef afterwards and he informed us that he makes all the GF bread himself. The sommelier, Maddie, was welcoming, cheerful and a great host. She provided us with just enough knowledge about the wines. If I visit Nashville again, I will definitely go back to the winery. Thank you for the hospitality!Visited January 2023Written February 1, 2023

We booked the “Journey to Jubilee” mansion tour, focused on the slave’s perspective. Our tour guide, Kenleigh, was extraordinary: she was knowledgeable & articulate & provided a vivid context documenting two slaves’ lives at Belle Meade (details often missing from plantation tours). This is a part of history we can’t ignore. I so valued Kenleigh’s in-depth presentation.

This was our very first stop from the airport. We arrived near the opening time on a Sunday. The tickets we purchased online we’re about an hour later although once we checked in they said they’d hold the first group so we could join them. The tour guide was not only knowledgeable although passionate about the history. It was engaging! The wine tasting at the end did not disappoint! We weren’t fans of the wines although the wine 🍷 tender was very knowledgeable, accommodating and entertaining. Great way to start our spring break vacation in the Nashville area. A must see!

My husband and I visited Belle Meade back in September and did the Mansion Tour. Our guide was Jeff and the tour could not have been any better. He was SO informative, funny, and engaging and gave incredible information about the family who lived in Belle Meade, the American history surrounding the property as well as extremely interesting info on the interiors of the mansion. We enjoyed our first tour so much that when my husbands family came to visit from Canada we booked tickets and drove 3 hours from Southern Illinois so they could check out this awesome tour and property... and we could not have been more disappointed. Our tour guide gave the bare minimum of information. To say she gave the cliff notes version of a tour would be generous. It was such a bummer. She was not engaging, was disorganized and rushed us through the house. My husband and I left trying to explain everything we had learned the first time to his family and it was just incredibly frustrating and disappointing. To top it off the woman going around pouring wine afterwards at the tasting could not have been in a worse mood and you could just tell she didn't want to be there and didn't respond any time we thanked her after a pour and when we asked her to remind us again of the wine she huffed about it? yeesh. It was a rough visit and it was annoying that I dragged our family to Canada here for it. To anyone interested in doing a tour - call and request a tour with Jeff otherwise this is not worth your money. Our second visit was definitely our last visit.

Visited the Belle Meade plantation and did the Mansion Tour. The mansion was gorgeous and rich in history. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and was able to answer everyone’s questions. At the end of the tour was a wine tasting, which was really nice as well. We ended up buying a few bottles and had them shipped back to our home state (for a fee).
The grounds are beautiful and it was a nice way to spend a half day walking the grounds and reading up on the history of all the buildings on the property
In the time of COVID, everyone was required to wear a mask and commonly touched surfaces were sanitized regularly. Additionally our tour was limited to 8 people, so it was extremely easy to distance and feel safe while on the tour.
10/10. Would recommend to anyone who is looking for a great informative and historical adventure.

Belle Meade Plantation is a wonderful experience in so many ways. Being a history major it is a joy to see the painstaking efforts they have made to reconstruct a piece of history. I visited with my two young adult children and their enthusiasm for the history preservation, combined with making the plantation a part of today's relevancy was a joy to experience. Our guide Jeff, was one of the best I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing on a tour such as this, and I have had the pleasure of enjoying many historical sites. Right from the very moment we stepped into the Welcome Center and were so graciously greeted by the visitation staff, to ending our visit in the winery gift shop after taking in the wonderful sights of the property, it was a fantastic experience. This was my second visit and I intend to return (wish I lived closer). The cafe on sight was being renovated, but I ate there on my first visit and still remember how great the food and atmosphere was, making a visit to the Plantation a full day of fun! Thank you to all the caretakers of this piece of history that can be enjoyed by all.

We went in what is considered off season, which-while cold-was a more personal experience that we loved. Super knowledgeable tour guide, and our complimentary wine tasting with the estate sommelier was even better bc we had time to ask lots of questions.
Definitely recommend.

As part of our Christmas getaway to Nashville, my family and I took a tour of beautiful Belle Meade Mansion. We saw a few area historic mansions during our stay, and Belle Meade was the most ornate when it came to Christmas decor. The group size was fairly large, probably around 20 people, but it was manageable in the space. Though there are ropes which cordon off certain spaces on the property, you can actually enter the rooms instead of having clear dividers that only allow guests to LOOK into the rooms, which is the case at some other sites. Our guide was knowledgeable and did a nice job of keeping the tour moving according to schedule while still helping us to feel as though we were not getting "the bum's rush." I have been to Belle Meade several times over the years. There were some memorable facts that were not touched on during this tour, as our guide was bound by the need to incorporate information both about the holidays and about weddings in the mansion, which were apparently the current themes. That is not a fault of our guide, but rather an encouragement to go back and take another regular tour to learn even more about this lovely home and the interesting family who resided there. Please note that a tour of Belle Meade is expensive as compared to many historic home tours, so plan to spend some time wandering the grounds and enjoying the atmosphere to feel as though you got your money's worth. That said, Belle Meade is truly a jewel among Tennessee's house museums. I would recommend a visit, and a Christmas tour, to anyone who loves the pagentry and past of these gorgeous grand old places.

My friend and I had a wonderful time visiting Belle Meade while on vacation in Nashville. It was a wonderful break from the crowded downtown of Nashville. We really enjoyed touring the site and having wine at the winery. We had lunch at the cafe but would recommend that you eat lunch before going or bring a picnic. The food was cold. Everything else was great!

We toured Belle Meade on Labor Day afternoon before heading back to Memphis after a long weekend in Nashville. Jesse, the mansion curator and our guide, did a great job sharing his wealth of interesting historical facts about the mansion, plantation, owners/family members and slaves who lived and worked there. He was also hysterically funny, and answered every question quite thoroughly which generally led to other topics of discussion. We spent just under an hour inside the mansion, which I think was a bit longer than typical, but it could be because our group asked lots of questions. We then walked through the carriage house to see the old carriages/buggies. And went to the brief wine tasting. I do not drink so I don’t have an opinion. My husband said the wines were good although very sweet. Lots of people seemed to love it and bought multiple bottles to enjoy afterwards or take home, so it must have been good! Our teenagers enjoyed the tour and thought Jesse was a very good guide. Glad we went!

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Belle Meade. We got the mansion tour, which comes with the complementary wine tasting at the end. The mansion is lovely (and has excellent AC for hot days), and our tour guide was phenomenal. The wine tasting was a short walk from the mansion to the store, and featured 5 of their wines (which are reasonably priced). The gardens and grounds are lovely, and good for walking. We did not get to the ice cream shop on site, but did thoroughly enjoy the restaurant for lunch ($6 for a meat and $3 for a side - excellent prices and good quality). I highly recommend this!

My boyfriend and I are planning to stop by Belle Meade during our stay at Nashville in a few days. Any suggestion on which tour option is the most recommended? Also, besides the tour and food, what else I can could on grounds? Thank you!

We did the house tour and the slave tour. The slave tour is mostly outside but does show some of the house. It’s focus is on slave life at the plantation and we found it to be very informative. We were the only guests on this tour so we had a lot of personalized attention and were able to ask a lot of questions. The house tour is much more popular so we were part of a 20-person tour. It visited most of the rooms in the house and also very informative as it addressed a lot more of the personal and lifestyle aspects of the family. You can’t go wrong with either tour. I believe there is a wine tasting included with each tour … it’s a nice touch but we weren’t big fans of the wine. Have fun!

I didn't have children with me but there were children on the grounds. I believe website says youth tickets are 6-17. I took the mansion tour but there are outdoor tours that may be better suited to children and there is an ice cream shop on the property.

Hi. I was wondering what the former plantation was doing in regards to current social justice initiatives?

It’s a historical landmark that tells the history of the horse industry in Tennessee. It has nothing to do with current political events. 🤦🏻♀️

Just to walk the grounds and tour the mansion sandals are fine. You would need to check with them if you need to wear close toed shoes to do the Segway tour.

It’s an hour of standing, listening, and walking. School with visuals, if you will. Let your grandchildren be your guide: Will they distract other tour goers from enjoying their experience? If yes, wait until they are older.

If I buy tickets online and we arrive late are we able to go on the next available tour? We will be making a 3.5 hour drive on a Monday in July. It's hard to estimate the time. On the other hand, will we have a long wait if we buy tickets when we arrive?

Based on our visit on a beautiful late spring day in May, huge crouds are not a big problem. We arrived about 3 PM and there were maybe 20 cars in the parking lots and hat included the employees. If you have some time to kill, eat some ice cream or fudge, play some lawn games (free), Sip some wine (not free) and just relax.

What is the best way to get here? Staying with a group of women near downtown and we will not have a rental car. Is Uber/Lyft the best option? What is the approximate cost?

I suggest uber about $18.00 or so. It is 30 minutes from downtown and on a highway but worth the trip there.
