Ellen (one of the volunteers) greeted us today and showed us through this museum. Essentially had a private tour and learnt a lot about the building, the family who originally owned it, the local town and some other antiques on display. Really enjoyed walking through this museum. Well worth the visit, thanks Ellen :)

On travelling through beautiful South Gippsland we took the road to Port Welshpool. There we found an amazing museum with a wealth of local history. We spent a few hours there soaking up the very interesting, all it had to offer. Thanks to the wonderful volunteers on duty we were well informed of all we inquired about. What a gem ! Well worth the visit and a very reasonable entry fee. We will be back, and will recommend to others, it is well worth the visit. John and Josie.

Went there recently and it's a pretty stock standard local museum located in a house. The usual stuff is here, old photos, old books, some displays of yesteryear. It's nicely enough laid out and is a perfectly good way of spending 10-15 minutes.

The main attraction is outside where they have an old fishing boat on display (which you can't clamber over at all) and there is also a collection of various old tools etc in a shed.

A few bits of tourist tat on sale and friendly staff.

Initially I stopped to ask directions... the gentleman was happy to steer me to where I was going. I explained I wouldn't mind looking through the museum but I had my cat with me, he said I could bring her in as long as she was house trained and on a leash.

So the gentleman was prepared to break rules for me... I really appreciated that. My cat is reasonably well behaved, but I would not have asked to go through a museum with her. The museum is staffed by volunteers, and this one had grown up in the area. He was quite enthusiastic about his role and showed me through.

The museum is housed in one of the original fishermen's homes of Port Welshpool. It houses a collection that showcases the history of the district including maritime artifacts, a shell collection and history of those who where the founding families of the area. So it's quite interesting. You will see the prices in one of my photos and I found the entry fee quite reasonable.

I was not expecting big things in this museum as it's smaller than the one at Port Albert.... nonetheless it was interesting.
