We were greeted on a grey Saturday afternoon by a very welcoming attendant who took a few minutes to brief us on the history of the builing as well as give us info about volcanoes.
The information was simple and well presented and certainly allowed us to better understand the landscape we are travelling through.
The centre was interesting for all ages.

Visiting the VDC is fun and informative and I learned so much from their groups talks and visits up Mt Rouse to examine the remains of the volcano that sits beside the town. Definitely worth spending a few hours in Penshurst.

With a friendly volunteer to introduce you to this collection of information about volcanoes, this is well worth a visit. They have interactive displays, videos, endless number of rocks, and lots of information about the area.

The volunteers at Volcanoes Discovery Centre are a fabulous source of knowledge and enthusiasm for the local geology. The Centre contains lots of pictures, videos, rock samples and information about volcanoes in Australia and around the world. It is a great place to learn about volcanoes and then follow up your visit with a short drive to see the crater at nearby Mount Rouse.

This place gives you a good idea how volcanoes work en the area where it stands. It is not very big, but gives you heaps of information. There is a special story for kids of how a rock that lived deep in the earth, ended on a dry stone wall. There is also a disply of rocks and different stones. Cost is $15 for a family. Well worth the money.

Hadn't realised before entering the Centre how prolific volcanoes were/are in this area. Living under one in Queensland, I am now fascinated by their shapes and history. The team here are incredibly helpful

What a great find, on the off chance we went in to pass some time and break up the drive with the kids in the car. Although it is a small place we all had a great time looking though it. The whole experience was great with than excellent explanation given by the person manning the front counter that brought the whole place alive for the kids.

Great displays of volcanos. Suitable for all ages. Our 7 yrs old grandson loved it. Friendly, well informed staff. This region of Victoria has magnificent volcanic scenery. Over the road is Mt Rouse, a former volcano and close by is the iconic Mt Napier and Harman Valley. The are also lava tubes and tumuli close by.

Visited this just by chance - we hadn't seen it advertised anywhere but I'm glad we stopped when we saw the sign. The lady on the front desk was very friendly and informative, and we enjoyed walking around the exhibit following the life cycle of a little rock. I never knew the area was so recently volcanic. On the advice of the lady we also visited the nearby extinct volcano Mt Rouse which you can drive almost to the top of and around the craters. Paid $7 for entry to the museum
