About
Brown Brothers Milawa Cellar Door is the nerve centre of new ideas and experimentation within Brown Brothers winery and is the perfect environment for tasting new varieties and wine styles. We grow many varieties of grapes and have an experimental research winery, the Kindergarten, where we produce wines of high quality, but in quantities too small to make available for general release. These are released under the Cellar Door label and are available nowhere else. The range includes limited releases of new varietals, experimental batches and aged wines. Adjacent to the Cellar Door at Milawa is our restaurant where you can enjoy a la carte dishes created with local produce to complement Brown Brothers wines. We also have a relaxed food and wine in the Wine Bar.

- Lyndall LSydney, Australia16 contributionsFive-star Treatment - fabulous visit!Visiting with a group who have never been to Cellar Door. Their experience (& their sales!!) was fantastic. The young man who looked after our group was fabulous & went out of his way to make sure the group enjoyed their visit. He was full of knowledge, answering every question without hesitation. Congrats Brown Brothers - the sales that weekend ALL went your way, despite visiting "Tastes of Rutherglen"!Visited March 2024Traveled with friendsWritten March 13, 2024
- CandJ96Melbourne, Australia7 contributionsAbsolutely beautiful locationWe had not been to Brown brothers for a considerable number of years and while on a short break decided to call in. I must say it has changed significantly. As you pull up there is a lovely grassy/shaded area so you can sit and have a few glasses of wine or have lunch in the restaurant or simply have a tea or coffee. The tea by the way was as good as I would make myself at home. We went in for the wine tasting but also a look at all the history of the winery and the family. It is a very interesting read. Our wine tasting was really good and our host for this was Jacob who was very knowledgeable on all things Wine and made the tasting enjoyable. We will definitely visit again in the not too distant future.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 28, 2024
- PartlyblondeMount Dandenong, Australia466 contributionsA beautiful place to relax and enjoyWhat a lovely place to not just try a few wines but to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, graze on some food and wind down and relax. The staff were lovely and helpful and our experience with wine tasting was pressure free, and that’s very important. No sales pressure to purchase is really appreciated. We had a lovely few hours at Brown Brothers and will definitely return.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 12, 2024
- Donnah T40 contributionsA fantastic place to visit whether you like wine or notI visited Brown Brothers to purchase a bottle of wine to take back to the UK for friend who loves the wine. I wanted help as I wasn’t a wine drinker……however I thought I might as well do a wine tasting session. It might have only been 10:30am but I figured it’s 5pm somewhere in the world 😂 I explained to Mark my dislike of wine and told him the tastes I did enjoy. Mark tailored the tasting to my likes and converted me and found several wines I really enjoyed. Mark also hand picked some wine for me to take home for me and my friend. Thoroughly enjoyed my experience and the staff I met, Mark and Jacob were very knowledgeable and so lovely.Visited August 2024Traveled with friendsWritten August 26, 2024
- Vince RMelbourne, Australia58 contributionsOn the Alpine Road, a great pit stop awaitsYesterday, after a lack lustre ski trip to Falls Creek. we stopped into the Brown Brothers Winery at Milawa in Victoria. I have been there twice before, but this time I was showing my partner around the winery. After, a quick stop to the restaurant, we headed to the wine tasting building to sample a range of their award winning wines. Our Wine host, Jacob, was so knowledgeable, calm and customer orientated, he relaxed us completely, so we could make informed decisions on our wine bottle purchases. Brown Brothers Winery is a great reason to stop in Milawa and so is the Milawa Cheese shop, a couple of kilometers away.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 10, 2024
- Marilyn P6 contributionsBirthday celebration lunch - 3 course set menu.We had the 3 course set menu. Entrees were tiny tastings and not everyone enjoyed it. Main was nice, especially the chicken. The children’s menu needs to be more kid-friendly. Polenta chips aren’t really suitable. Just do plain chips, maybe a couple more options. It was disappointing that after spending $600 in the restaurant there was no discount in the cellar…. Even on a $70 bottle of wine. Lovely setting and beautiful gardens. We stayed over the road in the free camp so thanks Brown Brothers for that.Visited October 2024Traveled with familyWritten October 6, 2024
- GarryWagga20 contributionsTerrific way to spend time in Milawa wine tasting at an historic wineryWe stopped and did a seated tasting at Brown Bros. Very well looked after by Henry who was knowledgeable and engaging with the tasting. This is how wine tastings should be conducted - interesting, informative and delivered with a genuine belief in the product. Well done Henry. The winery itself is an experience. New varieties and wine making methods are encouraged and this shows in the range of wines. Not all were to our liking but full credit for the effort. Unfortunately we were there on a Wednesday so the restaurant was closed but we will be back to sample the fare in the near future. Well done!Visited October 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten October 8, 2024

We booked the premium wine tasting. We were sat down and had the wines explained to us by a lovely knowledgeable English lady who answered any questions we had and also had a great knowledge of the wines. For $20 a head, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience and of course spent plenty on take away wine. Highly recommend the tasting. Booking is easy and a better option. I am not a wine drinker and know nothing about wine, but still really enjoyed it.

Brown Brothers is one of Australia's most prominent wine makers, with a record of producing outstanding wines. It is known for innovation and has introduced many great wines to Australia, such as prosecco. Prosecco is a sparkling wine that is not cloyingly sweet, it is fruity with a dry finish. Prosecco has become one of Australia's favorite wines. A visit to the Brown Brothers winery is well worth the trip'

Four of us booked a 45 minute wine tasting for late in the afternoon. We were treated to a fine time by Kit, a young and enthusiastic and knowledgeable man. Responding carefully to us, he listened to our interests and chose a range of appropriate wines, outlining the characteristics of each. He offered a very generous selection, exceeding the number described when booking. Other staff were also friendly and the setting is warm and intimate. A fine experience indeed!

Cannot fault. Booked lunch two weeks prior as had heard it might be hard to book a seat. We were lucky to be there on a sunny day which enhanced the grounds - perfect for a stroll before lunch. We didn't join the paid wine tasting but were still offered a sample glass to taste for free. Friendly staff and very very efficient. Lunch was excellent, albeit a bit on the pricey side for what you got. Kids meals were good value - neither of our two (teenagers) could finish theirs and they are gannets :) Lunch was served quickly. Definitely worth a visit. Brown Brothers wine is one of our favourites but, perhaps not surprisingly, you will find their wines better priced at Dan Murphy, BWS, etc.

We had lunch from the menu (rather than set menu) which was amazing. We selected a number of smaller dishes to share which was perfect, as were the deserts we shared. The service is top notch, wine by the glass or bottle at retail prices which is very unusual for a restaurant but it's run by the winery - well done. They also tell you that any leftover wine if you buy bottles can be taken home.

From the moment of arrival until we left, we had the most outstanding experience! We were gutted when our booked taxi didn't arrive at our lodgings and ended up half an hour late, we called and let the restaurant know and it wasn't a problem. A big thank you to our waitress Alex!! She has the brightest personality and excellent knowledge of the devine, mouthwatering experience my taste buds have ever had. Compliments to the chefs!!! Paired with the delicious wines, the food was out if this world. Thank you all for a most memorable birthday!!

Stopped here for a tasting, since COVID they have changed the way tastings are done. You can’t just get one drink but u can do a wine flight of 5 wines for $10. This is seated and not time specific and they poor all 5 wines and then u can enjoy at your leisure. It is a good way to taste their wines, no hard sell to buy but you do get a discount if you purchase. Staff all very friendly

We booked into the wine tasting session on a Thursday. Due to COVID-19, they had started doing seated wine tastings, which supposedly have been very popular so they’ve continued to do them. We were seated on a table of two and our guide, Steve, was just lovely. He was patient, generous and informative without any of the sales pitch or lengthy explanations.
It was such a pleasant experience to be seated comfortably whilst we went through an extensive tasting trying to track down which bubbles I had enjoyed at my Mother In Laws. In the end we found my goldilocks bubbly and discovered a few other delicious drops, taking home more than a few bottles!

Exceptional local wines, great service, super friendly and accommodating of our doggy. The wine tasting was tailored to what we like and we were allowed to be inside with our dog due to weather conditions. At all times staff were amazing and the quality of the wine was exceptional.

They really did make it hard to spend our money.
We were (somewhat) happy to pay $10 per person to try the wine flight but there was absolutely no system in place (or signage) to indicate where to pay or indeed how to get a seat at the table (only seats around 10).
Only one staff member was on the register and she was so busy selling boxed wine that I waited 10 mins before someone else finally appeared to take my $20. At least 2 other couples came in and then left whilst I was waiting.
Take a look at the Barossa valley Cellar Door set ups and learn.
After waiting another 5 minutes for a vacancy at the table, the rest of the experience was quite pleasant.
The staff were friendly and knew their product.
There was a 20% discount offered for wine purchased after the tastings so we were ok with that (got our $20 back!).
So in short, if you want to offer Cellar Door sales, do not make it so difficult for your potential customers to spend their money.

HI Lisa
you are best to talk to Brown brothers direct I noticed a few do tours in the area but not specifically just for Brown Brothers
If you are looking at staying in the area everything local is walking distance or you can hire bikes to ride
Or look at one of the tours that takes you to other historic
Either way Im sure you will find the answer if you call them
The whole area was set up for relaxing weekends drinking and eating so maybe suggest you book in and walk to all the little foodie places and grab a bottle at brown brothers and relax on in the gardens
hope you have a great holiday
