A geological oddity which we'd never heard of, but upon hearing of them from a local did about a 40km backtrack to go visit.
If you have no interest in stone-type things I wouldn't recommend, but for a sense of history and human insignificance, there are some interesting geological sites in the general area.
Worth the time.

Part of the Kanawinka Global Geosphere and easily accessible on a day trip out of Hamilton, the Tumuli are on private farmland property easily accessed from a nearby rural roadway and signposted from the main highway. Fascinating and surprising volcanic structures.

The Tumuli, or lava blisters, are a bit off the beaten track but worth visiting if you are in this area and interested in the geological history of the volcanic plain. They are a rare volcanic feature and it is claimed that this is one of only 3 such sites in the world. The tumuli can be viewed from the road. Most are on private land but some are on government land. You can walk on to the latter site and view the tumuli up close, even climb them. On the same site are examples of dry stone walls built by farmers using rocks from the tumuli.
