This spot is a wasted opportunity, as the treeline is too high to actually take in a good view of Melbourne and the surrounding areas. I believe it would be more popular if a viewing platform was installed so you could see above the thick trees. You can do a 3km walk to the park entrance from here and spot some wildlife, but is otherwise a definite miss.

We started the mason falls circuit from the Blackwood picnic area. The circuit takes around 3.5 hours and you reach the summit of Mt Sugarloaf after about 50 mins ( it’s 3 km ). It is easily accessible as the route from the car park is not steep. It was a nice walk through the Bush but the views are mostly blocked by trees at the top. It’s a nice stop if you are doing the full circuit but if you are short of time see mason falls instead.

We did a 16km hike and climb up Mt sugarloaf. You have some amazing views of melbourne through the Regrown Forrest after the fires!

As you enter the park follow the National Park Road right to its end that finishes in the small parking area at the top of Mt Sugarloaf (550m). There is not much of a view from the top due to the many trees that surround the summit. At the moment the trees are still pretty thin from the fires, but if they grow much more there will be little to sea from the top. Walks from here go to Mason falls, so you might come to the summit from the walking trail.

Easy drive to the summit nice views of the area through the trees can see Melbourne city even though it was a bit hazy. Certainly worth a look if you are in the area a couple of walks back down into the valley and along the ridge.

This is a lovely route to introduce people to rock climbing but you need someone competent with you. It involves climbing up through a narrow cave so do not attempt if anyone is scared of heights or tight spaces as this is a one way track only. Once you start it you must complete it.

For those looking for an adventure this is a great day. Once at the top you can continue through to the farmyard or simply follow the loop back down to the carpark.
