Major access issue
May 2021
The gardens are amazing and I’ll rate them highly in a separate review. Getting to and from the gardens, however, is a real issue if you don’t have a car. They have a free shuttle bus to the station which sounds great but it’s only three times a day and for only nine people. We used google maps and caught local buses to get there but this involved long walks (30mins) along the roadside where there is no footpath. On the way out we actually had to climb through a hole in the fence to get to the bus stop!
With so much investment in the gardens, I would have thought it would be more accessible to interstate visitors wanting to get out of the CBD - public transport is also better for the environment.

Needs more shelter
Jan 2021
We visited on a rainy day. This made walking around very difficult. There is very little shelter en route so we left quite soaked. The plants are very nice, but half way I was already quite wet and had lost interest. They don’t need much cover, just enough to cover people incase it does start raining. I would have taken the bus around but it was full.

A great day out in the sun together
Nov 2020 • Family
A great few hours spent wandering through the beautiful Australian gardens. We started our morning at the little coffee van on entry to the gardens, enjoying a coffee and cake whilst we watched the kids splash around in the waterfall. There’s a small park there to entertain the kids and lots of great sitting areas to sit down and enjoy a snack or picnic. We especially liked the area backing on to the lake which featured different styles of backyard gardens; families were enjoying a beautiful garden all to themselves.
A great day out in the sun together!

Magnificent Display Of Australia And Its Flora
Dec 2020
The 15 HA Australian Garden is an excellent display of Australia and its plant life from the arid desert to tropical areas and running streams and lakes. It is well designed and interesting with an excellent display of the diversity of plants found in Australia. For somewhere for a pleasant walk or to study in detail the diverse range of Australian plants you cannot beat the Royal Botanic Gardens Australian Garden at Cranbourne. An excellent example of a well-planned exhibition of native plants.

Thank you for your lovely review. We are really pleased that you enjoyed the Garden and its diversity. Every season there is something different flowering, which makes the experience different to the last. We hope you can come again during another season to enjoy what's in bloom.

So many points of interest
Nov 2020
A must visit if your visiting area. So many different things to enjoy from the long hiking trail around the perimeter or the Trig lookout. Inside the gardens are various rear points of interest. How favourite would be the lilypad area (huge metal lily pads that allow you to walk across the water - the highlight was seeing a tortoise up close in the water).. we also loved the artificial stream and waterfall

TIP: park at northern end of carpark and enter through that gate that takes you straight to lilypad and water area.

TIP: bring sunscreen and hat as gardens get very bright due to concrete walking paths

Pleasantly surprised
Jun 2020 • Couples
In all honesty, we weren't expecting much. But it was a fantastic few hours spent in the gardens. Walking into the gardens is met with a frankly breathtaking sea of red (particularly for us British travelers). The little displays reminded us of flower shows in the UK. We have since been back to do one of the bush walks. This has quickly become a go to on a sunny weekend, as it's beautiful and free! Can't wait to see it in the spring.

Best place to go & its free - even the parking is free!! Great day out for all
May 2020
Whether you are afamily or a couple or from overseas this is well worth the trip.
Loads of places to sit & have a picnic as whilst the kiosk & cafe are closed you cant even get a drink of water as the water fountains are blocked off
Masses to see & do its ahuge place & at the moment the Explorer bus is also not working so you need to be able to walk & walk!!
Great views from lots of areas in the park.
You can stick to the paths through the Gardens including areas where kids can play & splash around and cross the water on the stone lily pads or you can climb up to the Tig look out for fantastic views
There's various walks from the Visitors Centre with maps to guide you as well as lots of sign posts & directions. They range from 10 minutes to 90 minutes for the bushland walks.
Whilst it was busy as we are all enjoying being out of lockdown there are so many open spaces to walk & wander & sit it felt very safe.
Note - No dogs allowed to protect the wildlife !!

Native gardens and nature at Cranbourne
Mar 2020
The Cranbourne Gardens are a satellite Australian native garden of The Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria. It includes large areas of natural bushland (e.g. eucalypt woodlands), open areas and cultivated gardens and landscapes with Australian native plants. There are walking trails, lookouts, picnic areas, bbq facilities, horticultural and educational displays, water features and various theme gardens . Free entry, Visitor centre, gift shop and cafe at main entrance. See native plants from rainforests to arid areas, and from all states and territories. Also a place to see wildlife.
A good place to relax or roam. Visit the website to find out more about the plant collections, garden highlights, walks and facilities. A nice day out.
