About
The Tabernacle was converted in the mid-1980s from a Wesleyan chapel into a centre for the performing arts. Since then MOMA Machynlleth has grown up alongside it in seven beautiful exhibition spaces. Throughout the year MOMA Machynlleth shows Modern Welsh Art, featuring leading artists from Wales, works from the growing Tabernacle Collection, and in August selected entries from the Tabernacle Art Competition. Many of the works of art are for sale.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this gallery - wonderful art work accomplished by some very talented people, informative video about local poet, beautifully restored building. However we made the mistake of deciding to have lunch in the cafe. What a disappointment! We both ordered quiche Lorraine and it was served chilled with a few bits of 'green stuff'! When we asked if it could be heated we were told that they had no facilities for heating food! We noticed Cornish Pasty was on the menu - chilled would not be pleasant. Our quiche was so,cold it was almost frozen and it was tasteless. We wrapped it up and brought it home, put it in the microwave and guess what? It tasted very much better. So be aware if you're visiting - enjoy the artwork which is well worth seeing, but avoid

Hi PowysPetunia. Thanks for your comments regarding the gallery. The owner of the café has asked us to post the below response on their behalf. We are very sorry that you felt disappointed with your food on your visit to Siop Goffi Y Tabernacl. Unfortunately you were visiting us at the time of the Machynlleth Festival, a music festival at MOMA Machynlleth, when we offer a different, limited lunch menu in order to cope with the amount of people ordering food within a short period of time. Offering quiches and pasties allow us to do this, however as we have such a small kitchen we are unable to provide these warm. We thank you however for bringing this to our attention and as a result we did put up a notice informing people that all lunches were sold cold, in order to avoid disappointment. We hope you will visit us again when we offer our normal lunch menu including sandwiches, toasties, soup and homemade cake.

Wonderful, dynamic art gallery with constantly changing exhibitions. Went recently to see series of events and exhibitions curated by Culture Colony. Exciting and fresh. Also has a busy little cafe and great Tabernacl Theatre. Well worth a visit.

We visited MOMA Machynllech to see the works of some of Wales' best contemporary artists - the four galleries offered a great variety of artistic styles. This is a wonderful gallery and deceptively large - a great use of space. The on site cafe offers fantastic coffee along with a good range of cakes and light lunches at very reasonable prices.
Well worth a visit.

Looked at the times and it was open, came to the doors and they were both locked. Only the other door to a restaurant was open but not the actual visit

Hi Astxria, thank you for your comment. We are open as advertised every Monday to Saturday, 10am-4pm. The only time we are closed completely is over the Christmas and New Year period, so something must have gone wrong when you visited us. We do have to close some of our galleries to change the exhibits but we try to do it in rotation so that we are always open and there is always something to see. If you would like to discuss it further, and so we can work out what happened, please don't hesitate to email us (info@moma.machynlleth.org.uk).

We spent a nice hour here on a cold November morning. Modern Art is definitely correct, but museum not so much - that suggests some element of history. But free (although donations welcomed) and well worth a visit if you’re in the area. Beautifully converted chapel and tannery. Cosy cafe with sandwiches at £3.50 and hot drinks. Original chapel is lovely and now used for concerts.

I started visiting this venue with my partner some years ago but with two kids under 5 it is still offering a great range of artistic styles and subject matters to look at and talk about with the kids, even if it's just 'I don't like the colours in that one'. But with two little kids my quality of sleep can be poor so the fact this place does fantastic coffee in a great feeling area of the venue (probably best coffee in town) makes this place a must visit when we are holidaying locally.

This excellently designed art gallery is a real find in the quiet market town of Machynlleth. Just a few doors down from an excellent bookshop, and a new photographic gallery, it always has fabulous work on show, as well as the permanent exhibition of work. There is a round gallery used for displaying sculpture, as well as a number of rooms devoted to paintings and sketches.
The reception area houses exhibitions of local artists which can be purchased as well as cards and books, and is staffed by volunteers who are very happy to chat about the gallery. Well worth a visit if you are touring the area.
Good disabled access to the rear, and a lift to carry wheelchairs between floors.

We were wandering around Machynlleth and spotted MOMA Machynlleth. There was a warm welcome, an interesting free chamber music concert going on and fascinating art in a number of galleries. The art was varied, of a good standard and uplifting. The programme of future exhibitions was interesting and we hope to return.

I have been into this venue several times now as a venue at the Machynlleth Comedy Festival.
It is an excellent venue and a credit to the town and the volunteers and staff who run it

Stopped by with 11,10 and 8 yr old boys. Ian, one of the volunteers, gave us an impromptu talk which my son said of afterwards "I didn't want him to stop " . Later he came to hear from each of them what their favourite was. Not too big, but some really beautiful pieces in there. Definitely worth a visit
