I was up there with some mates and before I met with them in Llanbranmair, I went up the steep hill on the motorbike and came across a gate across the road. Thankfully a guy was walking up and opened the gate for me. He was also going to the house, so I said I would see him there. I got there and took some photos, very scenic and peaceful. The only trouble is turning the motorbike around on a very narrow lane with my panniers fully loaded proved quite an effort. So I took them off and managed to turn the bike around. The chap I met had arrived without a camera,so I offered to send him the pictures I took in exchange for opening the gate on the way down. On the way down I stopped to take a picture of the Bron Y Aur stone, which was on a very steep incline. So much that when I got back on the bike, I had to use all my strength to get it upright off the side stand. Fantastic little trip, to see the place where Led Zeppelin wrote those famous songs, but best walk up from the main road and not on a motorbike!!

Good suggestion. Bron Yr Aur is a private domestic property and all of the land around it is owned by other people so access to our cottage is across other peoples land. The actual road ends some way before Bron Yr Aur and this rough track is maintained by is and is only for use by authorised vehicles. Glad you got safely down!

My visit to Bron Yr Aur Cottage.

I have wanted to visit Bron Yr Aur since the age of 13. This is the place where Led Zeppelin wrote some of their most famous tunes. Nearly all of Zepp's acoustic song were written here! The cottage is "Off the grid" and relies on a wind turbine and solar panels for it's power. The place is miles off the beaten track and very secluded, its ideal if you just want to get away from it all as Plant, Page, Jones and Boham did 46 yrs ago. The owners and wonderful people and very friendly, they could not do enough for us during our stay. I would recommend this to any fan of Led Zeppelin or to anyone who just wants to get away from it all and have a quiet time. The views are also stunning, the intire place is quite breath taking.

It really is 'Over the Hills and Far Away'

This is the property that Jimmy Page and Robert Plant spent some time in 1970 to get away from it all and concentrate on songwriting. It is not easy to find, and the very steep lane from the main road is not for the faint hearted. The property is privately owned, so you cannot visit it, only view it from beyond the gate.
However, for any Led Zeppelin fan it is worth the effort just to realise how remote it is, and a perfect place to relax after the rigours of touring back in 1970. No wonder they came up with such great material during their time there!

A long walk up the hill makes you wonder if you will ever find it. Hard to believe what went on here as it is so remote.

This is the cottage where Robert Plant and Jimmy Page wrote much of the material heard on Led Zeppelin III, IX and Houses of the Holy. The surrounding area is unbelievably beautiful and peaceful.
A long, steep walk outside of Machynlleth in Snowdonia, the property is now privately owned, a working eco-farm, so you can't enter onto it. Just view the cottage from beyond the gate and appreciate all the natural beauty and the sylvan hike up the long and winding country lane.
Walk among these steep hills and the sheep and old leaning trees and you'll understand what Plant was talking about when he sang of country lanes, of the leaves falling all around and places over the hills and far away. This place is mystical and magical- on certain days, you can literally watch the rings of smoke through the trees.
