Its a rambling huge hotel atop the Welsh hills with views like it was Switzerland! I liv only 10 miles away and it is aregular treat to go for lakeside walks followed by a pint and maybe a meal at the hotel. One of Wales' most special treats.

We live near Lake Vyrnwy and love to visit in all weather and all seasons. The scenery is always stunning. There are various levels of walking, hiking and cycling to be enjoyed. The Old Barn is good for lunch and Artisans are good for tea, cake and ice-cream but are either not open all year or have limited opening in the... More

We stopped here for what we expected to be a brief visit and ended up staying all day. It is a beautiful spot, and weather permitting, great for a picnic. There are plenty of walks - we can recommend the one to the waterfall. The bird hide by the Artisan Café is very entertaining - full feeders ensure there are... More

Hi Carol, Thanks for taking the time to review Lake Vyrnwy if I had the choice id be there everyday. Such a beautiful place There is a host of wildlife to be seen all around the site. I chose to stay nearby in LLanfyllin in order to visit Lake Yyrnwy. It was stunning with a 12 mile drive circling the lake. There aren't so many places to stop but there are some . . .We cycled the 12 mile road - very easy ride - used Artisans. We also hire kayaks and went on the lake..

Visited with family and 3 dogs. Weather was brilliant. Scenery was amazing. I suggest you stop at the shop when you first pass the dam to get information on the walks around the area. Not well sign posted. Recommend going to the waterfall. The dogs loved it, great walk with great views.

It's a twelve mile trip around the lake however you do it. Everything is so green so we must have been lucky to have hot sunny weather. There are plenty of picnic areas to stop at and some good walks as well.

This lake is a reservoir sitting amongst forested hills in a quiet location away from the main tourist trail. In years gone by some authority spent a lot of money making parks, footpaths and nature trails. If you go to the old Victorian dam find one of the car parks and take one of the various trails. Maps from information... More

We drove around Lake Vyrnwy whilst staying in the area (see my review on Tan Dinas Country House). Stopping off several times around the lake for photographs and even a spot of lunch at the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel (also see my review). Let me start by saying the weather was not great (The British summer strikes again with rain one minute & sunshine the next) & the dam was closed. As a result I can only imagine how amazing this would be on a great day weather wise. I was a little disappointed at the lack of wildlife we came across but... More

Hi David, thanks for taking the time to leave your review. What a shame about the weather! You're not wrong, it is incredible during the heights of summer and typically the wildlife varies depending on the weather too. Hopefully we'll see you again on a brighter day where you can really get stuck in! Take care :) More
