Holidaying nearby I booked a visit thinking that our two grandchildren (7 and 4) would enjoy seeing some creepy crawlies up close and hold their attention for an hour.

Although not the best signpost from the road (you deserve something more official) the “farm” complex is well designed with ample easy parking.

Over two hours later we were still finding new things and areas to visit. Not only had the well signed and informative exhibits enthralled the children; parents and grandparents also found they were viewing previously unknown bugs and learning new facts. We all stood in wonder at the glass tube trail of the leaf cutter ants! and our 4 arachnophobic family members faced their nemesis.

Where else would three generations be entertained on a damp October morning for under £3 per hour per person and end with a hot chocolate and marshmallows.

Well done the Bug Team

Thank you so much for the lovely review and yes, we totally agree with the need for better signage at our entrance - it is something we are working on! It's great to hear that all generations were entertained - that is exactly our aim...and those hot chocolates in Grub Kitchen are indeed a real treat! We look forward to seeing you again.

Fascinating and delicious!
Sep 2021 • Couples
We had an excellent few hours looking at tropical and native bugs, talking with super friendly zoo keepers, reading all about bugs. The story of the farm is fascinating and it was super to visit the cattle after reading about them too!
So much info on conservation and the potential of bugs as a food source!
Excellent way to spend a few hours.

We also ate at the Bug Kitchen. It suited us very well. The food is all plant based or insect based and very reasonably priced compared to similar attractions. My husband had a bug burger and I had curry puffs (no bugs for me). Both meals looked beautiful and were completely delicious.

Will definitely visit again!

Thanks so much for such a great review and for mentioning our fab team, as well as our wonderful cows (who we love very much)! I'll send over your lovely comments about the food to the Grub Kitchen team too. We very much look forward to seeing you on your next visit.

Bugs are our future - find out why at Dr Beynon's Bug Farm. Fantastic!
Sep 2021
What a wonderful world of bugs Sarah and her team have created in such a great setting. Everyone from 1 to 101 will be facinated by the diversity of the insect world on display from a beautiful collection of buttefly specimens to a live leaf cutter ant colony busy at work.

However, the Bug Farm is far more than just displays of insects. It highlights just how important insects are to our food supply and how important bio diversity on the wider scale is in maintaining that food supply in the future.

As well as the indoor exhibits there is lots to see outside in the way of field walks around different crops/ grazing sytems and some very fine Welsh Black cattle. There are also ponds with lots of dragonflies dashing about on the day we visited.

An example of possible future food trends can be sampled in the Grub kitchen, the UK’s first full-time edible insect café/restaurant. A fantastic lunch menu created by Andy with many dishes containing insects (insect free options also available).

We were blown away by The Bug Farm and the enthusiasm of Sarah and her team. Keep up the great work. We will return in the Spring next year ( with Sourdough). Highly Recommended!

Wow! Thank you so, so much. I have been left extremely humbled and (almost) speechless by that review. I really can't say how much that means to us all here.

Wonderful and a perfect family experience

Dr Beynon's Bug Farm is definitely a hidden gem in St David’s, Pembrokeshire which is also the smallest city in the UK.

Explore the indoor and outdoor attractions. Get up close to real life bugs or just look from behind the glass 🕷 🐜 in the Tropical Bug Zoo.

The Bug Museum is full of information and beautiful displays.

The outdoor walks and wild flowers are stunning and the children can enjoy the indoor and outdoor play areas. Take a walk through the Bug Farm Trail and try and spot some metal bugs hiding around.

The walled garden is also beautiful where you can hunt for butterflies 🦋 and listen to the sound of the bumble bee 🐝

You can say hi to the goats and chickens and you may get a glimpse of the black cows.

The Grub Kitchen is definitely worth a visit. Hot food, drinks and maybe you could sample a critter cookie or some of the delicious specialised menu that only the Bug Farm offers.

We spent many hours when we visited and we all thoroughly enjoyed. We have autistic children and they all loved the openness, the colours and the overall sensory aspect.

Dr. Sarah Beynon and her team work hard to bring you this unique experience and as a family we couldn’t recommend it enough.

Well worth a visit

Took the family there in August 2021. It’s only a small attraction but we were there for over three hours. The museum is really well laid out with lots of very interesting panels. The tropical area was great and the staff member doing the Q and A was excellent.

Thanks so much for the review and I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. As you say, the visitor experience is just part of what we do here and we don't want it to be huge, but rather intriguing and interesting! Thanks so much for mentioning our team member in the Tropical Bug Zoo too - very much appreciated. We look forward to seeing you again.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review and sorry to hear that The Bug Farm wasn't for you. We're a quirky site with a fabulous, passionate team who all want to help to try and make the world a better place. The whole site is all about sustainability, caring for nature and the wonders of the natural world, so not everyone is going to be on the same page and enjoy our little piece of wildlife paradise.

Well worth a visit, bugtastic!

Really lovely couple of hours spent at the bug farm. It’s really well organised and ‘safe’ feeling for the current situation without detracting from your enjoyment. The different bug rooms were really interesting and the outdoor spaces lovely to mooch around. We all had lunch at the cafe, our girls found daddy eating bugs amazing! It was also dog friendly except, understandably, in the tropical bug house. My eldest daughter is a huge fan of the author M G Leonard so her holiday has been made by finding a signed copy of ‘The Beetle Collector’s Handbook’! All the staff were lovely, knowledgeable and engaging. Thanks to all involved.

Ah - thank you so much for such a lovely review. I'm so pleased that you felt safe and secure and enjoyed the indoor and outdoor areas. What great timing to come just a couple of days after Maya had signed all her books for us! I'm thrilled that you managed to grab a signed copy. We look forward to seeing you again in the future.

There’s a bug in my burger
Aug 2021 • Family
We got here and there’s literally insects all over the place. If it was any other venue we’d be a little put out but seeing as this was the point of the visit it was all good. There is a very accessible insect trail walk which I’d say you can get a wheelchair through at least 90% of it.
I almost complained about my food having bugs all over it but then I realised I’d ordered the burger which is made out of them.
A solid couple of hours well spent here.

Thanks so much for the (extremely humorous) review which really did make me giggle! I'm so pleased you enjoyed your visit and thanks also for the accessibility comment - that's very important to us. If I can just cut down a bit more of the overhanging vegetation (which I am notoriously bad at), I reckon we could get that figure a bit higher too...then we need to tackle the wetland walk that is grazed by our cows who like to trash boardwalks...! See you again in the future.
