St. Thomas has a beautiful interior with part of the building dating from around 1180. It has a fine 12th-century Norman chancel arch, and exquisite West door. Well worth a visit

Dropped into the charming little St.Thomas's Church (dating from c.1180) whilst exploring the historic town of Monmouth in Wales and was delighted by it's beauty. It really is a very special Church with rich colours and real atmosphere... Well worth a visit. Also do take a look in the trunk of the tree directly across the road from the Church's front entrance as there is a very twee door in a hole in the trunk, (See photo).

Just down from the Monnow bridge and part of the walk around Monmouth, St Thomas the Martyr church is well worth a look. Interesting both inside and outside.

Some wonderful pieces of work are inside, lovely carvings. The guys who were in there made us very welcome. Even offering tales of long ago.

Although this lovely church is placed on the very edge of a busy market town, it is a haven of peacefulness. Open to the public it is a great place to spend a few moments of quiet contemplation. Someone once told me that 'stones absorb prayer' - it is very easy to believe that in this special place where tranquillity abounds and restores the weary visitor.

Partially restored by the Victorians, this lovely church is a gem. It was built in the 1110's - exactly the same time as the nearby iconic Monnow Bridge.
Fresh clean and interesting, this church has much to catch the eye; from the Norman chancel arch to the Edwardian memorial to those souls that lost their lives at sea, on the ill fated HMS Monmouth.
Slightly more baffling is the grotesque, sitting up halfway up the nave of the church - how long has he been grinning at those worshiping.
Beautifully maintained throughout, with simplistic stain glass (1950's) and the special pews that ran horizontally to the church walls.
This lovely church dedicated to St Thomas the Martyr is certainly worth visiting.
