Really horrible orange wine
Nov 2019
So looking forward to tasting their 'orange wine' made from the albarino grape. We had their sparkling wine for our daughter's wedding in 2016 and it was beautiful.
Firstly, your website says the vineyard is open at the moment - it is closed until March next year so sourcing their products is difficult. Fortunately there is a really helpful outlet in Monmouth [Marches] who managed to procure a couple of bottles of the orange wine for me. Even they said it was difficult to get hold of the owners at this time of year. Husband and myself have just tasted the wine - in our opinion it is truly horrible. We drink a lot of wine and this was not palatable - we threw half of the bottle away [it is not cheap!]

Informative and fun visit to a vineyard
Aug 2019 • Couples
Richard and Joy made us feel so welcome at their organic and biodynamic vineyard. Richard personally gave us a tour of the vineyard and winery and his passion about what started out as a hobby was apparent. He patiently answered all of our questions and made the tour informative and fun. We then tasted five of Ancre Hill’s wines, which were delicious (especially the Blanc de Noirs and the Sparkling Rosé). The Welsh cheese platter was also excellent. I really enjoyed my visit to Ancre Hill and would highly recommend it for anyone who finds themselves in the Monmouth area.

Fabulous experience, quality wines!!
Jul 2018 • Couples
Had a lovely afternoon at this wine tasting haven within the heart of Monmouthshire.

I treated my parents and friends to day of wine tasting and lunch, this is the place to be, there are a pleasant variety of wines on show and we tried them all, this was followed by a healthy Cheese platter of which all food was sourced locally.

The cost is £20 per head of which I feel is great value for Money, Richard the owner was a lovely host and very knowledgeable about the products he has on offer.

This is a must try if in the area, you will love it if you love Wine!!!

Thanks Richard

Very interesting

Brilliant to visit this winery in Wales. Very interesting to learn how the wine is made and everything about how they make it organic and biodynamic. Afterwards we had a wine tasting of the lush wines and sparking wines.

A very interesting experience in a lovely setting with wine tasting and lunch
Jun 2016 • Couples
We visited June 2016 on impulse on a sunny day. Arriving before lunchtime we went through the wine tasting which was informal and informative. I have a limited knowledge of wine, outside of how wine is produced in France. I know what I like and have usually veered toward New World wines.

We had the tour after lunch which was great, a family business with a sound ethical plan, long may they continue. We sat in the sunshine and ate lunch with wine after the tasting session with locally sourced and made produce. We now regularly buy a local cheese, Black Bomber cheddar (sold in Waitrose) I am not local so I am pleased it is stocked nationwide having found it by chance.

We bought wine direct from the vineyard, Cellar Door and I have struggled since with stockists to get all that I want from one supplier and with postage it seems easier to wait until they are open again in early summer.

We will definitely return as the vineyard is such a lovely environment where we can buy great wine and stop for lunch.

A good place to visit on your 32nd wedding anniversary!
Sep 2016 • Couples
We had a very early start and a long drive from Essex and we were looking for somewhere a bit different from your average 'pub lunch'. Situated a mile uphill from the Monmouth turning off the A40, this is not the easiest place to find, but well worth the effort (brown signs not yet approved by Monmouthshire CC).

My wife and I first tried the wine-tasting - four different samples each costing £2 pp, served by a family member who owns / runs the winery / estate who was most welcoming. Note - the winery is currently only open Thursday - Saturday. For our lunch, we had the Ploughmans which although not cheap at £14pp was high on quality and taste (three Welsh cheeses, local bread and spicy dip washed down with a glass of whichever of the four tasting wines we chose. This we devoured in warm sunshine whilst taking in the glorious views over the valley. On our way out we purchased a bottle of the 2014 Rose which was my wife's favourite (we are now enjoying this a week later whilst sitting on the balcony of the family's apartment on the Pentire, Newquay in lovely sunshine!).

We were given a wine tasting and tour voucher as a present. The day we went was good weather. We had serval different wines to taste 😀 we liked them all. The tour was about an hour and was very interesting. We didn't realise that there was food available which we would have had if we'd not eaton before. The wines are not cheap but we bought some for presents and for Christmas . CHEERS
