Monmouth Nelson Museum

Small museum in the town of Monmouth.
Ideal for a hour visit.
Part museum of Nelson and part art gallery.
Lots to read and see.
Small gift shop.
Free to enter with a donation box.
Nice small local museum visit.
Worth visiting if in the town.

An Enjoyable Hour
Feb 2020
Although it is only a small museum there are lots of exhibits of interest. There is a very good display about Admiral Horatio Nelson and lots about his victory at Trafalgar.
The art exhibition is also worth looking at and with lots of seating, it gives you something to look at whilst taking a rest.

Worthwhile Visit.

An interesting, compact museum with a wide variety of exhibits. I have been surprised to speak with many who live within a 20 mile radius of this museum and have not yet visited it. Hopefully, they will soon rectify this oversight! Combine this visit with the castle, courthouse and regimental museum and you will easily fill a day's visit to Monmouth.

Interesting

A lovely building housing a small museum. We went as a coach party and a lovely lady gave us the history of the building and the interesting history of the Nelson museum, the museum is free and well worth a visit.

Boring and dreary
Sep 2019 • Couples
Was hoping to see something about historic Monmouth or at the very least a Monmouth relevant display but was very disappointed at the dreariness of the museum which focuses on Nelson and some art work on a small part of the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. Not worth a visit!

Good for Nelson memorabilia!

Fascinating extensive section on Nelson, including models of ships. A small range of childrens activities which were being enjoyed by youngsters. Also a good art exhibition when we were there.

Charming museum
Aug 2019
If you like to view art and Nelson memorabilia, come here. The art exhibition was fine, but I think the space needs reconfiguration. The reception is overbearing and cluttered. I suggest a total review of the entrance and exhibition space. This place has so much to offer , it is sad to see it loosing customers because it looks old and dusty. There is nothing to attract children. A play space with drawing materials, low level interpretation boards, dressing up clothes, swords etc would have been fun.

Nelson memories

A little dull and dusty, but a large display of nelsons history. A route around with maybe a audio guide would be good.

Monmouth Museum
Jul 2019 • Couples
This museum is primarily devoted to articles and artefacts related to Admiral Lord Nelson, many of which are interesting and informative.. This venue is worth a visit, but items of local interest and information is somewhat limited.
