We took this tour with Ms. Jackie during the early part of our stay in Memphis, and am so glad we did. The main focus is African American history of Memphis, but it also touched upon some general history as well. Our main purpose in coming to Memphis was to visit the Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel. Ms. Jackie provided an excellent background of the sanitation strike which caused Dr. King to be in Memphis in the first place, and we stopped and toured the I Am A Man Memorial, which was fascinating, and which we never would have discovered on our own. (I did not see it in tour books I reviewed). That Memorial was essential to the civil rights history in Memphis. On a more "secular" note, Ms. Jackie also told us about other sights we would have never discovered--such as the "model" of the Mississippi River at Mud Island which, too, was fascinating. Plus, Ms. Jackie (as she requested to be called) was lovely, entertaining, personable, charming and also treated us to her beautiful voice and musical and acting talent. We highly recommend this tour, and suggest doing so very early in your visit to Memphis.
