Our family of four (2 teens) did the Treetop Adventure on a rainy day last week. We had so much fun! The rain was light, and no thunder, so we proceeded through the course. I would rate our physical condition above average, and we were all able to navigate through. There were two locations that gave choices on level of difficulty and all of us did the Tarzan swing at the end. They spend time at the beginning of the session instructing in safety and proper harness connection so by the time we were on the course, I felt comfortable. My youngest rented a GroPro (around $20) which was helmet mounted and made a fantastic recording of our adventure. The only issue was that the battery was fading fast near the end, so we had to conserve battery by turning off between obstacles. Great family activity!

I’ll start by saying I didn’t want to incorporate Go Ape into our Memphis trip, but I’m glad we did. After days of museums and sightseeing around Memphis we decided to let my pre-teen twin girls choose an activity for a free day between the National Civil Rights Museum – Lorraine Motel the day before and Graceland the day after. They went online and found Go Ape and begged to do it. The adventure turned out to be a highlight of our trip.
It's a series of rope/high line courses that lead you higher and higher into the trees until you zipline down. Adrenaline inducing is an understatement as by the time we were done my clothes were dripping with sweat (and it was not a hot day)
Staff were very friendly and repeatedly made sure everyone on the course was participating in a safe manner. Several times we asked staff to help us tighten or adjust safety harnesses and they always did it immediately and ensured we were both safe and comfortable. That said, they also stayed out of the way as the point of the course (I think) is figuring it out and conquering fears on your own. It was a great adventure and I highly recommend it if you are in the area.
A couple of tips:
• Bring sturdy gloves. I wore standard work gloves that I had in my toolbox and they worked great. They have gloves for rent/purchase on site, but I was glad I had my own that were broken in.
• Wear clothes with zippered or button shut pockets. You get up there pretty high – at least 30 feet or more in some spots – and anything you drop could be hard to find or easily get broken. I wore pants with buttoned pockets and a fleece vest with zippered pockets and it worked perfectly
• Wear dark clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. You’re going to sweat, but you’re also going to crawl and climb and zipline to the ground, etc.
• We site says if you have younger climbers you can had one adult for two climbers. I highly recommend keeping this to a 1:1 ratio as my wife and I each were needed to help my girls get through the course
Highly, highly recommend Treetop Adventure. We’re already talking about taking a day trip to another Go Ape location a little closer to home!

What a super way to spend some time together before moving to another city! We were a 16 yo girl, 22 yo man, & 52 yo woman in the worst shape of my life after the pandemic. We did the 3-hour adventure, and it was awesome. The 2 youngins are elite athletes, but parts of the course were challenging for even them, yet old Mom was able to keep up. Disclosure: I'm an athlete in non-pandemic life, so take that into consideration. Strength is required for parts of the course.
The staff were extremely personable and professional, and we felt very safe the whole time. ALWAYS STAY ATTACHED!

I booked a session, but it rained, so when I went to Go Ape to check in and ready for adventure, the office was locked and closed for the day, even though Go Ape told me if it's just rain, will open as normal, unless it's lightening and un safe, which it was not.
At least Go Ape should have called or emailed everyone who made reservations for that day, that all sessions are cancelled for the day!! I drove all the way to Go Ape and blocked out time specifically for the treetop adventure, only to see office was closed, Go Ape did NOT give me any notice.
At least Go Ape could have called me 30 minutes before the session start time, so I don't drive there only to find out it's closed.

Do not recommend at all!! My equipment broke half way through the course. When I had a panic attack from the equipment breaking while I was zip lining across the water way the employees acted like it was not a big deal at all!! They said it was a mild safety risk and it was something that happened often. And that the proper equipment was on back order. Which is absolutely ridiculous, and the way the staff acted about the situation was not comforting. They would not give me a refund and told me to call the customer service line and see if they could help me. Absolute terrible experience!!

Go Ape Treetop Adventure is amazing! The guides were thorough in insuring everyone’s safety, and extremely friendly! It’s a challenging, but fun course. It was my 12yr old son’s first time and he whipped through each obstacle like a pro. In his words “it was an adventure of a lifetime”! We will now make this an annual mother/son adventure!

This was an awesome experience! Everything was well organized and in good shape. It was mine and my boys first time there and it was lots of fun and a little scary but in a fun way. The only complaint we had was after coming off the most challenging, for us, course we were shaking and thirsty and there was no water. My youngest didn't feel like he could complete the coarse without something to drink. We had to walk all the way around the lake and there was nothing available to buy to drink when we got back around the lake either. It won't stop us from going back, but we'll know to bring something to drink next time.

Hello,
Thanks for leaving a rating. We're so happy you enjoyed adventuring in the great outdoors at Go Ape - Memphis! We are thrilled to hear that you were able to overcome your fear of heights and had a blast tackling obstacles in the treetops! We do our best to keep water at the start of each course, we are sorry to hear that we ran out during your experience. If you choose to bring your own re-useable water bottle, we encourage you bring your own carabiner so you can keep it with you in the trees!
Happy Adventuring

Here are some tips and guidelines on what to expect on this cool experience. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that are easy for you to navigate the different obstacles. The guides hook you up in a harness and you have a clip attached to it. After a very brief training on how to clip yourself to the stations, you are pretty much on your own. There are guides walking around the area if you were in real trouble. For every station (there are 6), you unlock the door yourself and you climb a ladder and do a series of ropes or wires and get across. For each challenge there is a diagram on how it is suggested you get across. On a couple stations there is a fork in the road where you can choose an extreme option, but it's not mandatory. At the end of each station is the zipline. The zipline was the best part for me, but I've zip lined in Costa Rica and there were two guides when you started and two when you finished. For this you hook yourself in, no guides at all, and take the leap of faith. I came back in one piece, so I'm sure it's safe enough, but taking that first step off the platform and hoping a guy like me, who is not handy at all, was hooked okay, was a little unnerving. With all of that said, I would do it again and I would recommend. I kind of get vertigo changing a light bulb at home, and I was able to climb the ladders and get through it. The only issue I really had was walking across a wire and I really got dizzy and a little freaked out, but I'm glad I pushed through it.

It was the worst experience ever. We got there and the person at the desk didn’t acknowledge after 5 minutes even after us trying to get there attention. Then when we got to the actual thing and the treetops we had to wait 30 minutes behind people before we could even go and one of the sites was shut down so we didn’t even get the full experience nor did the instructions help use and made it any better. At the very end and the last site we waited for a hour and half to go because the instructors wouldn’t make it go faster and half the people would take forever to go.

Hello,
Thanks so much for taking the time to rate & share a review of your recent experience of our Treetop Adventure in Memphis. We strive to allow all guests to take on the course at their own pace. While we do encourage golf etiquette (slower parties allowing quicker ones to pass through) and do our best to organize guests to eliminate back-ups on the course, unfortunately, delays sometimes are inevitable. If you decide to visit us again or try out another course in future, we recommend letting our instructors know that you're a returning guest, so that they may prioritize letting you get out ahead of other parties who may wish to take their time. Again, we appreciate your feedback and hope you had fun in spite of these backups!
Best

This was SO MUCH FUN! This is the perfect Covid-friendly activity, and my little sister and I had a blast. Neither of us are huge risk-takers, but there was just enough challenge and adrenaline involved to help us test our limits and try some new things. As long as you listen to the instructions (which are repeated plenty of times), you feel completely safe and capable throughout the activity. Believe them when they say it can take 2-3 hours, t took my little sister (17) and I (22) about 2.25 hours to complete.

Hi Desyree,
Go Ape does not host canoeing, but I believe you can rent paddle boats and kayaks through the Shelby Farms park office. You may also be able to bring your own canoe. For more information, I would recommend that you check out the Shelby Farms Park website or give them a call directly.
I'm sorry I couldn't be much help, but I hope we'll see you in the trees soon!
Cheers,
KF

Hi Jennifer, while you can come to the cabin and try to get on the course, we recommend that you book online because spaces fill up fast and there's no guarantee that there will be space available if you show up to the course. Thanks!

Here is the answer from the website:
The Go Ape Treetop Adventure Course does require a degree of physical fitness but if you can climb up a rope ladder you should be fine. Although, we do have some participant restrictions we created to ensure you have a fun safe experience on the course. The restrictions for an individual and the supervision ratio are:
Minimum age: 10 years old
Minimum height: 4ft 7in (55 inches)
Maximum weight: 285 lbs (subject to harness fit)
Supervision: One participating adult (18+) is required to supervise up to two 10-15 year olds. 16-17 year olds do not require a supervising adult, but do require a waiver signed by their legal guardian or an adult (18+) who has obtained permission from the 16-17 year olds legal guardian.
For 16-17 year olds, we recommend printing the waiver at home and bringing a signed copy to Go Ape.
Harnesses: At Go Ape we use harnesses to make sure you’re nice and safe throughout your time on the course. The maximum waist measurement of the harness is 43 inches and the leg loops (which go around the top of your thighs) is 28 inches. If you’re unsure about the fit of the harness, feel free to come by the cabin before your booking time and we’ll help you try one on.

Yep! $37 for less than 16 and $57 for more than 16. It's a combination of tree trekking and 4 Zip lines across the lake. Treetrekking is very challenging even to the experienced. The best treetop adventure so far I have been through!
