Probably my favourite bar in Memphis. No, it is my favourite bar in Memphis. Actually it’s in my top ten in the world. No, top 3 at least. If there isn’t a movie that’s been written around this place a set then there should be. God vibes, no nonsense and met some great like minded souls. Do not change one thing about this place. I beg you

If you want a dive bar to go to and also haunted this is the place. The bartender was very nice and the soul burger is a must have!! They cook it right in front of you behind the bar. Cooked just right. Looking for anything else to eat that's all they serve with chips. Loved it. Drinks were priced right. Next time in Memphis we will be back for another soul burger. Don't forget to tip the cook 😉.

This is listed as a piano bar but it is not at all. E&H is a one time brothel in the S. Main district. It has an awesome burger and the best juke box in Memphis. It gets very packed late night and if there is roon you can dance to some great Al Green. This is a local hang out for the downtown/midtown crowd.

Total dump and the service was non-existent. This was recommended by the tour.
We walked over from the tour and sat down at the counter. Not one member of the staff spoke with us. Acted like we didn't exist.
Not once in any of our travels have we been subjected to this level of service. Check any of our reviews, we don't leave reviews like this one. They earned it.

I have several reasons why you should go in the day. First is that upon trying to walk down Main St. from Beale around midnight, my husband and I broke up a bunch of crack dealers. I won’t go into details but trust me, it happened. Stay on Beale after midnight.
When you go in the day, it’s pretty much empty. This is cool for two reasons. You get a personal tour from Clarence and it’s great for taking pictures. Clarence the bartender was a super nice and very knowledgeable guy. I asked him what there was to see in the bar. He gave us a 20 minute tour for free. I saw a sign in the bar that stated they charge $5 for the tour. So we left a generous tip. He never mentioned a fee which is pretty cool of him. You can tell he really appreciates the place.
He showed us all of the pictures and gave us a little story about each. Showed us pictures of all of the stars that have been there and movies they made there. He took us upstairs and showed us the brothel portion of the establishment. I wasn’t aware that it was a brothel until 1992. Crazy! He showed us where the pharmacists kept their pills downstairs. Showed us the fancy tin ceiling and the antique chandelier. Then he just hung around and talked to us for a bit while we drank our beers at the bar.
The juke box really is the best around if you like soul, blues, Motown, etc. I don’t think I’d want to be there at night as he says it gets packed. 400 people were there the previous night. The place is big but not that big. They must have been shoulder to shoulder. And if you like good beer, this isn’t the place to drink. It’s a Miller, Coors, Bud kind of place. No taps, no liquor, and no wine. You can bring in your own liquor and wine. They sell the mixers.
We ate dinner there in the little café around back. Surprisingly, it was excellent. I had the grouper, my husband had the catfish, and our friends had the steak. The main courses were great, gumbo and cheesecake looked good, and the cheese grits were amazing. Mashed potatoes were ok. Nothing special. I’ve heard the Soul Burger is the thing to get. I saw Clarence making them and they didn’t look like anything special. Maybe they taste better than they look but it looked like a frozen patty with grocery store buns. But everyone says they’re fantastic so I guess it’s worth a try.
Russell the owner was there and said a quick hello. That was kind of cool. Seemed nice enough.
I don’t believe in ghosts, haunted places, paranormal, etc. I will say that I did get a very creepy feeling walking upstairs. Later I took our friends upstairs and showed them around explaining what Clarence had told me. I felt even creepier then. Something’s going on there.
If you’re in Memphis, take the walk to Earnestine and Hazels in the day. It’s time well spent.

Slow bartender, no blues, band flat out refused to play any. Its a spot for drunk 20 somethings who want to hear popular current music covered. Maybe its not like this all the time but if this is a Saturday, you have way better options.

Wouldn't come here for a meal or by myself but a fun place with a group of freinds and so much history and story telling. Ask them about Mick Jagger and Honky Tonk Woman

This is more about fun and atmosphere than coming for a meal, it is like no other bar you will experience. The soul burger is the only choice available and it is as good a burger as you'll ever get. There are so many stories about its past and the famous visitors; rumour says Honky Tonk Woman was based on an experience here - who knows but the stories are fascinating.
Best to come with a group of friends.

That's all I can say! You be the judge.
We'll go back on our next visit in April. It's a place that you won't find anywhere but Memphis, TN.
You must go because I'm still in shock. The drinks are great.

This is an awesome place to go after being on Beale St. until 1-2am and you're ready for a nice juicy burger!! But don't be picky! Just go with the flow and ask for a burger and a beer (it comes with chips also-NO fries)! It's truly a dive bar, but SO worth going to it!
