Open the doors of St.Mary's and one encounters the presence of God. As a child growing up my daily/weekly attendance was at Holy Names, but, Christmas we would walk to attend St.Mary's midnight Mass. Wow! I love this church and the memories of LOVE that I have encountered there. Our wedding was held there and our walk down to my beloved Grotto to say our first Marriage prayer together bound us for 61 1/2 years. Although we moved from Memphis in 1971 every trip back home would not be complete until we attended Mass at St. Mary's. I truly wish all could experience the beauty of this small church....walk around inside and devour it's beauty, you will not be disappointed.

This is a stately and beautiful, old church. The Grotto depicting the appearance of the Blessed Mother to St. Bernadette is worth the trip to see the church. The interior of the church has a great deal of rich, dark wood, which makes it feel warm and comforting.

I always attend Christmas mid-night mass here even though I belong to another church because the preservation of this church reminds me of my younger days of going to church was all about. The church is well kept and the people there are always friendly. Some newer churches these days have lost their appeal trying to be up to date and more modern but going to a church like St. Mary's helps remind me of what being catholic is all about. I hope this church never has to be torn down for any reason.

While visiting Memphis over the weekend we went to St. Mary's Catholic Church. It is a great old church with amazing details. On the left side of the church, facing the alter is a grotto honoring St Bernadette. Sadly, the parish attendance is down and the church is struggling but it is in perfect condition. The priest was very welcoming to us, knowing that we were visiting. If you do visit St. Mary's Catholic Church and attend mass, please be generous when the collection baskets come around!

We were staying at the Marriott across the street so we thought we would take a walk across the street for Sunday mass. We arrived early and got in the front. The priest was new to the parish so he seemed a bit nervous and off his game but he got through it. Before we left the folks in front of us (members of the church) were very friendly and asked where we were from. The welcomed us and were happy to hear we were just here to visit. The church was beautiful. I know the previous post made a comment about $5M restoration or something to that affect but this church is like 150 years old so I don't know what it looked like before but the stain glass windows and the wood pews throughout were well restored. I would recommend to anyone that wanted to go to mass :)

We stopped here on a Sunday afternoon and the Church was locked up tight ! It is unfortunate that a place of worship needs to be secured against those that want to be destructive.

We attended Mass here and the usher asked if we would like a tour after Mass. We did and it was worth time. He knew a lot of the history of the church from the Franciscan Friars who built it to current day operations. The stain glass windows and statues are beautiful.
