We took the BBQ Tour with Harper on a Tuesday afternoon. First of all, Harper is an excellent guide. He sent a message the day before to confirm the meeting location and attached some local recommendations. On the day of the tour, Harper met us as directed, with a giant whisk. He has a great deal of expertise related to Memphis as well as BBQ so his commentary was great throughout the tour. He followed up afterwards with more recommendations.

We walked to a number of places around downtown for food samplings, which were substantial. There is a lot of walking (the first was the longest) but the stops are long enough to recover and the segments got shorter as the tour progressed. We enjoyed the food, especially the bbq and gumbo. The stop for fudge was nice as well.

This is one of the better food tours that we've taken, and we've taken a lot. It's also nice that this is a family owned/operated business. According to Harper, they are considering a several new tours in the future.

We highly recommend this tour and this company.

BBQ Tour. In short, this is a MUST. Amazing food and a fun, friendly local who teaches you the history of the city and the “behind the scenes” facts about the touristy favorites on Beale. This tour will make you appreciate the city so much more. Start your trip by doing this tour, because you will get so many phenomenal recommendations of places to visit while in the area. If you’re even considering this slightly, allow me to tell you, DO IT!! You can thank me later.

I did the BBQ tasting tour on January 15, and although I was the only person booked (don't be spooked, January is off off season for tourism) I had an amazing time. My guide was Harper and he was awesome. Not only did I learn a ton about BBQ and its history, I also got a history lesson about Memphis. My favourite place was Central BBQ. The ribs were incredible and the pulled pork nachos were heavenly. The Blues City Cafe also had outstanding ribs and the best bbq beans I've ever had. PIG on Beale was tasty, as well, but I preferred the other two. If you want an engaging tour in one of America's best food cities, you can't do any better than this.

We did the BBQ tour and had a great time learning about the history and culture of Memphis. Harper was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The selection of restaurants provided a good cross section of various styles of Memphis BBQ.

We did the bbq tour and it was excellent. It was a walking tour and does involve a lot of walking, but it wasn’t too much. We went to multiple restaurants and enjoyed everything placed in front of us! This tour was also very informative of Memphis history. We highly recommend this tour...make sure to do it early in your stay!

Harper is a life long Memphian and provides a great history tour along with some very tasty food selections . Harper Has special knowledge in the area of BBQ, as he is a certified judge! His upbeat personality made the tour extra fun. We had never been to Memphis so thistour checked more than one box for us. Ne sure to come hungry.

Best part of our tour! Harper and Taylor share much more than great food! They love Memphis…share it well! If you visit once or 85 times, this is a must! Not a more friendly, informative or professional group around. Our tour and yours will be Taylor made (tailor made). As hostess for my group and first time visitor, they even assisted me with so much more. Take your appetite with you and enjoy the tour!

The food was good. The horrible racist commentary during the entire tour was very disturbing. As we walked the streets and at the restaurants many people of color had looks of shock on their faces to hear Lance's comments. He is neither a person of color nor a Southerner but he felt compelled to share his take on history. We were there for the FOOD not to listen to racist remarks.

I have to say first and foremost, I appreciate tour companies like this who will run no matter how many people show up. I do a lot of food tours around the country, and some will cancel if they do not have enough to make it worth their time, which has happened and it's unfortunate as most people are looking forward to any tour they book. That said, it turned out that it was myself and the tour guide on my last day in town so that did not ruin my vacation as I wanted to experience the Memphis food scene.

That being said, we had some interesting stops along the way with some food choices I would not normally order or eat left to my own devices. I enjoyed that we had a number of stops along Beale Street at places of lore my friends had said to check out given the chance. While we were not there while bands were playing or weekends with the drunks in full force, I still enjoyed my experience going during the week and offseason. I actually prefer it.

We stopped at the following:

LunchboxEats - Lemon Pound Cake
Dyer's Burgers - Burger, Fries, and Milkshake
Alfred's on Beale - BBQ Nachos
Bleu - I am not sure on dish, but was grits + shrimp
Blues City Cafe - Tamales + Chili
Automatic Slims - Fried Pickles

While these were my stops and food selections, those can vary as you did have options at a couple of stops on what to pick between. The guide also said they sometimes switch these up depending on the tour, what is going on in town so take that for what it's worth on my listing above.

I enjoyed the tour and history given along the way. I find that food tours, especially those you walk in a central area, are one of the best ways to learn about a city. I prefer them over a hop on hop off type of deal where they point at different sights while blowing past them at 50 m.p.h.. While food/walking tours are not an option in all major cities, I really look forward to them when they are. Plus it helps you walk those calories off!

I really enjoyed this food tour and recommend it.

the review was fantastic 5 stars from everyone. everyone mentions about how full they were and etc. thinking, i'm going to be getting one dish from every restaurant. but no, it was very small samples from each restaurants. don't be fooled its not 6 full dishes! we had to split one dish for 2 of us and then the tour guide ate off of it. awkward.
I do have to say, tour guide was very knowledgeable about memphis and the bbq. no denying that. He talks a lot good or bad, depends on your preference.
honestly for $65 per person, minimum 2, with tax and service fee ending up near $150, I would've pigged out on Beale street.
Dry Rub Ribs were the best but BBQ spaghetti wasn't all that.
