Small Memphis Museam

The museum on Mud Island is a small museum about the river and local area, but it's a good place to spend the day while in Memphis.

This museum is small but definitely worth a visit. There is a lot of history to learn here and quite a lot to look at.

A surprising good museum with lots of details and artifacts on the history of the area. Very well done steam ship. The best part was the outdoor recreation of the entire missippi river, done to scale, and running about a half a mile.

Great Place for Visitors. Also very educational regarding the Mississippi and the riverboats. Kids love the replica of the river.

This little museum packs quite a punch. It takes you from prehistory right up through modern times and tells the tales of Native Americans, civil war, river boats, and slave and blues music. It completely surprised us with its low cost and interesting displays.

Stopped to take in the wander and beauty of the great Mississippi while in Memphis. Great for nature lovers and to interact with others.

[From my review of Mud Island] We visited Mud Island River Park and the Mississippi River Museum in the middle of a weeklong road trip from New Orleans thru northern Louisiana and western Mississippi and ending up in Memphis. Having spent three days driving the delta and making roadside stops when something looked interesting, the museum was a great way... More

We wanted to take a trip on the Mississippi. Our guide was very informative...learned a lot about the history of the river. Do it on a beautiful day so you can enjoy the scenery.

The museum does not have a lot of artifacts and it is very dark. It simulates walking through an old riverboat, though simulates is stretching it a bit. If you are already at the park or plan on going it's probably worth it, especially since the monorail is included.
