Sun Studio - The place where an 18 year old Elvis Presley recorded his first song.

It’s well-known in the music industry as "The Birthplace of Rock 'N' Roll" and the most famous recording studio in the world. Opened by rock pioneer Sam Phillips in 1950, this national Historic Landmark is where superstar musicians like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and countless others started their recording careers.

Today, Sun Studio still serves as a recording studio in the evenings while hosting public tours during the daytime hours.

This little place is where it all began - rock and roll. It's a nondescript little place but has been lovingly curated by the Smithsonian after serving as several other things including a scuba shop in the 80s. What makes this place fantastic is the guided tour that really brings the history alive. Led my musicians and the like, it... More

Visit the place that was the birthplace of rock and roll and blues. Excellent tour of the studio by a very knowledgeable and pleasant guide. Don't miss this place.

Didn't have time for the tour, but it's great to just visit this historic building. This is a must-see in Memphis.

Great destination that is dripping with history. The tour guide was excellent and went way beyond just the Elvis story. It was cool to get a music engineer's commentary on how Cash, Perkins an Lewis got their sounds , and the genius of Sam Phillips who masterminded the whole thing. There is a free shuttle to and from Gracelands if... More

We went here thinking it would be nice but didn't expect to feel so much electricity! It is small and crowded waiting between tours but wow, did our tour guide deliver! To walk the same steps where so many famous people have been was amazing. We really did get chills standing in the recording studio listening to the old recordings.... More

Sun Studio was a nice little gem my boyfriend and I found the afternoon we got into Memphis. The studio is small, and parking is kind of a pain, but the tour is well worth it - I recommend getting there early to buy tickets because the tour will sell out. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the history of... More

The Sun Studio tour with Zach as our guide was A++++. We toured Graceland and though we appreciated it, Sun was so much more "Alive" with the story of not only Elvis, but so many others that got their start at Sun. It was humorous and yet hallowed at the same time. I promise you will not be disappointed.

We toured Sun Studio with Lahna as our guide. The tour was very informative, and Lahna was funny, knowledgeable, and entertaining. She was able to engage the young children in our group by including them in her presentation and also care for those adults who had special needs without making it seem like a big deal. She made a great... More

Worth the price of admission to see the studio where so many greats recorded. It is a short but interesting tour.

What an amazing place, lots of history, this is where elvis cut his first record. If you book this tour there is a free shuttle bus service to Graceland. It is well worth the visit. Tour guide very informative and made it very interesting
