This was my first visit back to Portpatrick in over thirty years and it was even more picturesque than I remembered. This must be what what Cornwall was like in the nineteen fifties. There is a busy, working harbour, a lifeboat station, plenty of shops and tea rooms, and lots of space to sit down and have a picnic.

Been going to Portpatrick on and off for nearly 40 years, my parents had a caravan at Castle Bay when I was in my teens, and we were back for a night camping there. The place hasn't really changed much, but thats a good thing in my book. Its just great to walk around the harbour and take in the... More

I recently went with my friend to portpatrick. It was my first visit to the place and I was pleasantly surprised. It has a lovely harbour you can walk from one end of the village to the other car parking is free and there are several eating establishments. We had lunch in the Castle Hotel very nice meal and reasonably... More

Unfortunate to vist on a not too pleasant a day. However the scenery is amazing. On a fine summers day it must be breathtaking. Walked on the beach and watched a 'local' launching his fishing skiff. Attempted conversation with him by asking him what he was going out to catch, in a grunted and forced effort he said 'fish' I... More

My first experience of Portpatrick was as a newly-wed twenty five years ago, so it seemed very fitting to visit again during our stay in nearby Castle Douglas for our Silver anniversary. I love the harbour and the "bracing" fresh air walks. The lighthouse is charming and there are a few nice little gift shops. We went into one such... More

This is a place you either want to stay and enjoy or keep going back to do things. Some small shops for gifts etc with Smugglers Cove being a really good one. Plenty of walks and also putting for family fun. Unfortunately RNLI station was not open on day we were there not sure why but boat was sitting in... More

Fantastic wide area for walking; Coastal walks or otherwise. Very good multiple Tea rooms or café offering exemplary fare at very good value during the day. Historical interests if that way inclined. Good area to chill out. Very friendly welcome from all local people we met.
