Although it appeals to mountain bikers as there were many cars and cyclists there, the area has walks in the forest which are worth exploring.

Nice selection of walks to do in pretty surroundings with good parking too. Very good for dog walking.

We walk from Dalbeattie through this beautiful forest to the coast at Rockcliffe, on to Kippford and back through the forest to Dalbeattie. The forest has a number of routes through, all of which are very quiet and of varying challenge level.

Easy walk with stunning sights and peace and quiet. There had been some significant rain when we went so some of the paths very muddy. We walked the red route which is more for bikers and took us a couple of hours.

We visited Dalbeattie as part of our MTB holiday while staying at Gorsebank Camping village just down the road. On arrival we were the only ones in the car park so once we paid the very reasonable £3 for all day parking, we set out on our journey to complete the Red route having never been to Dalbeattie before. The route itself was very challenging in places and has a good mixture of technical ascents/descents and fast flowing single track, although you need to keep your wits about you as there are some surprises lurking around a lot the corners that can catch you off guard! For the more adventurous there are Black graded options including the infamous 'Slab' and 'Qualifier'. There are also Green and Blue graded routes so something for every age and ability. Facilities are limited to toilets only with hose pipe to wash down bikes. However, Brambles café just down the hill is excellent if you are looking for a bite to eat. Overall, thoroughly enjoyed this MTB trail which pushed us to our limits at some points but gave as great fun sense of accomplishment once we finished...we will be back to do the Slab at some point though
