The National Trust for Scotland has done an AMAZING job of saving this piece of Mackintosh history. The entire home is encased in a open-air box, which helps protect it from further weather damage. You can now tour the inside of the building to see...More

Having visited the house about 5 yr ago, I wanted to go back and see ‘the box’ I’d heard so much about, fearing it would be horrible and detract from the place. It doesn’t. The whole thing is impressive in its own right. You can...More

I've long wanted to visit Hill House and was initially surprised that the house wasn't what I'd expected - it was so much more! We were wowed from the minute we set foot through the front door and spent a good hour or so exploring...More

We first visited a few years ago and were impressed. Now that it has reopened the experience is enhanced and an absolute must for all Mackintosh fans, you will not be disappointed. The charming town of Helensburgh is a bonus.

Very interesting reading about the history of the building and the family that lived there. The walk over the house was good but if you don't like height perhaps avoid it as you can see through the walkway to the ground below. We popped into...More

It's a long walk uphill to this National Trust property from the Helensburgh town centre if you're fit, else I recommend you take a bus or taxi. The house and gardens were being renovated/restored when we visited but all could still be viewed. It was...More

A great place to visit - whether wet or dry (it was very wet when we visited!). Free entry for National Trust members under the reciprocal arrangements with the Scottish equivalent body. The 'box' that has been constructed around this architecturally-important house (for preservation-purposes) has...More

Absolutely astounding place. We have always been fans of Macintosh but this was beyond all expectations. And you can see that all the staff are equally as obsessed. Also spent a lot in the shop.

Thanks for your amazing review. The Box really does ad another dimension to your visit doesn't it? Thanks for spending in the shop. As you will know 100% of profit goes straight back into conservation.

Hi Louise, You should be able to park close to the house but if it is busy you can drop your mum at the gate. Most of your visit will be inside or undercover in the Box and we have a lift in the visitor centre which gives... More
