About
Conceived in 2014 by Aidan Canavan, a biologist by training, Bute Brew Co. is situated in the centre of Rothesay on the Isle of Bute. Our Brewery is open for visitors so you can come in and see how we make the beers, sample the beers in our bar and beer garden. You can also buy bottles to take home or as a fantastic gift for someone if your feeling generous! Our beer is available on draft or bottle in most of the pubs and restaurants around the island. We are also finding the demand is increasing and our beer is popping up in lots of pubs and off-licences around the country.

When we entered the place, the guy said that the kitchen is closed, but offered us some beer. We didn't want to eat, so it was perfect. We didn't know what we want, so the guy recommended us the beer. The beer was a bit too bitter for my personal taste, but it's really good. The guy apparently is the owner of the place and he brews beer himself! So we had a nice chat about types of beer, how he brews it and about business. It was a pleasant visit. I think he also offers a tour.

We popped in for a drink on a rainy afternoon. We were keen to support a local business and sample some local brews. Firstly, we were disappointed that there were only 2 beers available on tap. The other 5 or so were all off. That was a bit rubbish. Secondly, one of our party required gluten free beer. When asked if they had any, the staff member replied that she didn't know, as she didn't know much about the beer. There wasn't really anything else obviously on offer, and the staff member disappeared. As did we. I just feel that if you're going to work on a brewery you should really know a bit about the product.

Had the pleasure of visiting Bute Brew Co on Saturday while in Rothesay for the weekend. Sampled and bought some of their lovely beers and ate great pizza made on the premises. Sad to learn that it is closing it’s doors at the beginning of November and noticed that none of the pubs we visited in Rothesay stocked their beers. Very sad 😞😞

On our last day on Bute yesterday we took a tour of the Bute Brew Co.brewery. It's a very small outfit, our tour was done in the two rooms they have available. Despite this those of us enjoying the tour learned a lot about the crucial ingrdients in making beer, how it affects the kinds of beer being made, and best of all got the chance to sample some of their absolutely beautiful beers for a whole £7 for a tour, or £4 for drivers who couldn't do the sampling.

The founder, who gave us the tour, is an ex science teacher who lamented teaching children to simply pass exams when what he is now doing is putting science into action to brew the most beautiful beers, and wishes he could have enlightened kids as to science as a career, and I can't help but love him for that.

Dear OH was driving and had to take my word for it re the beers. However he did get to sample the pizza, and it was well worth it! He had spicy sausage and I had pear and blue cheese - both delicious and kept us fed for the rest of the day.

These are folks running a small brewery with a huge personality. Their beers are amazing. Even if you can't visit please support them, they recently sold their RED beers to Aldi and those flew off the shelves. On our visit, for two people on a brewery tour, two delicious pizzas (we are pigs who can easily eat a pizza each!), a gift box of beers and seven bottles (one of each that they brew) we spent £50, which we didn't think was a huge amount for this experience.

Visited in June and sat in the beer garden with some tasting beers. Fresh pizzas were a lovely addition.
Staff were very friendly.

We stumbled upon the Bute brew company on a random day out in Bute. Just a 10 minute walk from the ferry terminal so prefect for non drivers. It was very busy when we arrived (Saturday 3pm) but had no problems getting a seat outside under the large awning although we had to share a table. Took a while to get served but worth the wait. I had a pint of "Thorough Bread" and the good lady a bute brew gin and tonic. We also orded a 4 cheese pizza. Being busy they had run out of glasses for the g&t. It was served in a small wine glass first time and a pint glass second, which wasn't ideal. Pizza took a while to come but was sooooo worh the wait. One of the best pizzas we have tasted. Dog friendly in the beer garden 🐶. We will definitely visit again and recommend others do to. Just get some more gin glasses 😉.

We stopped by for a drink to get out of the rain. A warm and welcoming place though quite small inside. No problem for us as it was quite warm outside so we could sit under the huge tarpaulin tent and stay dry, for anyone who got cold there were blankets. The Scalpsie Blonde was a nice beer and I'll be stocking up on some bottles of this before leaving the island. Hoodies and t-shirts are available for a reasonable price and help support this small brewery. It's also nice to see some of the shops and pubs on the island supporting the brewery by selling some of their beers.

This is a charming little place, with very charming and passionate people working their. We booked a tour through their website for £7 each. Which included a drink at the end. The tour was very casual, but very informative. I’d recommend getting the slider of three little beers to try them all ( we were a party of 2...so had six in total ..from stout through to blonde beer.) so good. Great wee seating area outside too.
A wee tip...check their opening times...kitchen isn’t always open if you want to try their amazing pizzas at the same time.

Despite living nearby I'd never actually been in the Bute Brew Co. before my cousins birthday get together.

From the outside it looks quite small but inside is like a tardis. Lovely beer garden partially covered for our Scottish weather with various different seating areas and styles and the pool table too.

It's also bigger on the inside will a well stocked bar with the kitchen upstairs. I would highly recommend the pizzas cooked to order.

The seating inside is on two long wide tables with plenty of seats and room to share with friends or family. Lovely atmosphere with functional as well as rustic decor as it is the brewery as well as the bar.

Nice touch to have some of the hops and ingredients on the tables.
