Good tour of the distillery

Better than average tour of the plant. We were allowed to see, feel and touch more than we we used to. We got some really good info about Whisky making. Unfortunately Jura is... read more

Our cruise included a tour of the distillery - first a very knowledgeable guide gave us a sit-down introduction with three tasting samples. We then went next door to look at the stills (very impressive). The distillery shop looked inviting - if you wanted to buy whiskey but predictably perhaps sold little else. We spent a pleasant if unremarkable hour.

Better than average tour of the plant. We were allowed to see, feel and touch more than we we used to. We got some really good info about Whisky making. Unfortunately Jura is not the Whisky we like best (matter of taste and says more about us than Jura). Prices at the shop were far too high. In the NL... More

Excellent tour given by a very informative guide who answered every question in a very knowledgeable manner. A very scenic location with other visitor attractions on the island. Well worth the ferry crossing from Islay.

Have been to Islay before, but this was first time on Jura, lovely island, great to see lots of red deer. The lady at the distillery was very friendly. My wife and I had very pleasent chat with her. We bought a 21 year old whisky and some miniatures.

My wife and I took our two grandsons to the Isle of bute as a day trip, my wife and I have been on Rothesay many times before but have never been round the full island, so we decided to take the kids and our two dogs via the ferry and car to bute, we picked up the ferry at... More

This small distillery has a very warm atmosphere. Had a distillery tour with a tasting afterwards when the distillery manager popped in had time for a chat with us. If You're going to visit the distillery, don't make the same mistake we did... We only had a few hours trip over from islay, regret we didn't stay overnight! So quiet... More

Jura is a beautiful island, it requires a 5-10 minute ferry journey from Islay. I think the ferry runs roughly once every 1/1.5 hours, don't hold me to this though and double check the ferry times as there is not a lot to do once at the crossing. The distillery itself is in a lovely location, the tour was interesting... More

We found the staff very friendly, and they were happy to let us taste anything we asked for. We didn't find that at all stingy, as one of other reviewers noted. At the time we were there it was very quiet, which may make a difference. We didn't take a tour, but found the shop staff helpful, well informed and... More

Due to time constraints we didn't do the full tour. Instead we did a tasting with a look at the stills and bottle store. Danielle, our guide, introduced us to 8 different single malts and was able to describe them and answer detailed questions. We weren't rushed although they were busy with other tours. A very professional tasting.

The island of Islay, off the west coast of Scotland, boasts 8 individual, working whisky distilleries. Add the distillery on the neighbouring island of Jura, and that's 9 in the vicinity. The Scotches here are renown for their peatiness, but that's not always the case; the distilleries diversify when they can. It possible to drive around Islay and see all... More
