About
One of the oldest operating distilleries in Scotland – and its most easterly – Glen Garioch (pronounced Geery in the ancient Doric dialect still spoken in these parts) has been making its mighty malt in the quaint and historic market town of Oldmeldrum, near Aberdeen in North East Scotland, ever since 1797. Shielded from the world’s prying eyes, deep in the fertile ‘Granary of Aberdeenshire’, and only ever produced in small, precious batches, Glen Garioch is a rare find indeed, but warmly appreciated by those who like a hearty Highland malt, non chill-filtered as nature intended, with a wholesome maltiness, honeyed sweetness and delicious creamy texture to savour.

    A lovely experience
We visited the distillery on a lovely Tuesday afternoon, where our tour guide Gill was excellent and very informative. You have some lovely drams at the end and the shop has lots of lovely interesting gifts. It’s a hidden gem and a must see

Very informative tour. Cool, old distillery. Close to Aberdeen
I’ve toured many tequila and bourbon distilleries, in a group and privately. This is my first for a scotch whisky distillery. You should make reservations as tours are limited to 10 and group tours fill many spots. Distillery has been operating at this location for 225+ yrs. You’ll see how the old and new methods combine. Our guide, Iona, was great! She was very informative and interesting. Answered many questions. But moved us along as there is so much to see and learn. After the tour and tastings, she made recommendations for our sightseeing in Aberdeen between golf days. It’s only about 30 minutes outside of the city.

    Hidden Gem in a village
Have lived in the area for fifty years and never visited. Chance happened as we had visitors from down south so spoilt for choice for something different. Decided to check out this distillery. Decided to take the tour which has to be booked in advance owing to limited slots of up to 10 persons at a reasonable cost of £15 each which includes a tasting experience. The guide was brilliant (Julie) explained the process in detail and answered, Starting off in the visitors centre very well presented and shop. all good quality goods highlighting the distillery, Even if you don't drink or like whisky you will fall in love with this place. At tasting section of the tour if you drive samples will be given. Drink Driving discouraged as it should be. Miss this place , you will regret it.

    Founders Tour
Julie our guide was amazing - so knowledgeable, considering she had only been running tours since April. I have a tendancy to loose concentration, but Julie kept me interested throughout. The tour is great value for money and the whisky tasting was lovely, especially the Virgin Oak - I just wish I could afford a bottle!

    Good for Whiskey drinkers
My wife booked this tour for me as a Whisky distillery tour is something you need to do when in Scotland. It is a working distillery although was quiet in terms of staff, but the factory was noisy and some place very hot. First time I have been for this type of tour and I enjoyed, even though I don't like whiskey... but that didn't stop me from trying them at the end! One suggestion is to have something interesting for the wider family to do, as this is a holiday activity, so my wife and daughters had to keep themselves entertained whilst waiting for me, and the nearby town isn't that exciting!

    Recommended whisky tasting experience!
Came here for the Rare Pair tour which was basically a whisky tasting experience pairing various blends of the whisky with local cheeses and chutneys. The tasting room was very nice and the guide Jacqueline was very amiable and knowledgeable on the whisky. The whiskies and cheese were all very nice. Would definitely recommend this experience.

Charming whiskey tour with lovely moments at Glen Garioch 🥃
As a couple who love to enjoy whisky together, the tour at Glen Garioch was a long-held wish that finally came true. We were excited but had no idea what to expect. From the start we were captivated by the wealth of information, the warm atmosphere and the generous tastings. Although the tour was scheduled for 4.5 hours, the time flew by as every moment was exciting and engaging. We wholeheartedly recommend this experience - an unforgettable journey for any couple who not only want to explore the world of whisky, but also want to share something truly special together. Special thanks to Ilona for making it such a lovely day.

    Excellent tour
Took the Founder's Tour, which was very reasonably priced, on Christmas Eve. The guide was very welcoming to us all, including my teenaged son. It's a small distillery but with it's own maltings and warehouse on the same site, the story from barley to bottle could be told in full and with evident enthusiasm. The shop and tasting area was welcoming and, unlike some distillery shops I've visited, my preferred dram to take home was competitively priced. Thank you!

    Hidden gem in Aberdeenshire
This is a relatively small distillery in the town of Old Meldrum and definitely worth a visiting. A great tour of the distillery which has undergone recent investment. They are one of the few distilleries in Scotland that is now malting (some of it at least) their own grain on site in the traditional manner. Tour was around an hour and a half followed by a tasting of two of their expressions. Highly recommended. Go see the place and buy a bottle from its source!

    OG scotch whisky
Julie was brilliant! Really knew her stuff and was very accommodating. Brilliant guide and all round lovely person. Was brilliant that we went during the silent season because we got to go closer to machines and see more than if in production. The fact that they malt the majority of their barley on site is a tradition seen rarely. The visitor centre is warm and friendly. All staff were lovely and helpful. Would 100% recommend. Really shows an OG scotch whisky distillery.

I phoned on Easter Fri to check if the Glen Garioch distillery shop was open & was told by a friendly gentleman who answered ‘YES..it is open as usual over the weekend.’ My wife & I made the 30 min trip arriving at 12.00 on Sat. There was a sign up on the gate ‘CLOSED - PRIVATE FUNCTION’! We spoke to Elise, through the gate. She said there was nothing she could do - they were closed for a private function. Although she apologised, there was no real empathy or attempt to reflect understanding of my frustration.

Unfortunately I got angry (not abusive), for which I apologise.

Over the last 3years I’ve spent £1500 at Glen Garioch (our local distillery), starting a ‘legacy whisky collection’ for my Grandson (3 next week)! And would have spent probably tens of thousands over the next 15years.

This experience has made me look elsewhere and I have opted to complete my ‘Grandson’s Whisky Legacy’ at independent Scottish Distilleries (not many left). We got this year’s whisky from Glenfarclas.

We went to the distillery on a masters tour, it was the best £17.50 I have spent. The staff are all friendly welcoming and knowledgable, the distillery is interesting and the tasting at the end was the perfect end to a wonderful afternoon. Highly recommended

What a fascinating visit. I have no interest in whisky but was happy to tag along on a visit. For a modest fee we were conducted around the distillery in a small group of 5 by a superb guide. By the end of the tour I felt I could almost start work there as I knew so much. The guide really was exceptional in her knowledge and delivery. I’d really recommend d this trip.

Visited the Distillery with family friends including two children. Toni our guide was friendly and knowledgable and kept the kids interested throughout, without excluding the adults. Kids even got soft drinks when the adults did the tasting. A great wee distillery, well worth the visit.

Reception was welcoming and informative. Guide knew his stuff and made it interesting and at times amusing. The tasting at the end was well organised and again informative. My only query would be I made the booking for three of us in advance of asking if there was disabled access which there wasnt so the visit was a no no. Could they have given me back a portion of the ticket price? Apart thoroughly enjoyable and informative.

Cannot say enough good things about GG and their staff.

Always welcoming and friendly and go out of their way to help if they can.

The tour has just been updated and improved and the tastings on offer are brilliant.

All the team are doing great things under difficult circumstances recently and deserve to be applauded for keeping a feel good factor going at Glen Garioch.

On top of all that, the Whisky isn't too bad either!
