Beautiful part of the country, midges notwithstanding, with stunning scenery and excellent locally produced food. Ben More is a genuine Monro; the climb starts from the beach. A perfect base for expeditions to see the puffins or enjoy the glorious beaches. Many beaches are populated with oysters. Iona is only a short drive away

Another fine trip to Loch na Keal. The north side, as the road winds high above the shore , offers the most breathtaking views of the Ben More range of mountains - a real wow. Don't miss it on a clear day.We took nearly 2 hours this time to travel from Gribun and cover the few miles round to the high point before Ulva Ferry, there was just so much going on even in mid-winter. In all, we watched 4 otters. A single for half an hour, bringing his catch onto the rocks then, on the north side, a family of 3 , mum and two cubs , the cubs squealing and playing and hunting. Just wonderful. As we returned to the car, lo and behold behind us on the mountainside, we caught sight of a pair of golden eagles sweeping across the moorland.Watched them for 10 minutes.
Hope for a calm day (doesn't matter if it's raining re otters though not so good for eagles) and look for a small dark head swimming quickly through the water.Otters are so active, they never seem to stop. They hunt underwater for maybe 20 seconds at a time before they almost bounce back up onto the surface.Sea eagles are around a lot too ,especially out by Gribun and on the Scarisdale rocks.
And not to mention the other sights; goosander and curlew and more herons than I have seen anywhere, mergansers, great northern divers - a bird watcher's paradise. It's worth buying the Mull Bird Reports produced locally for locations and sightings.

We camped for the night. Lovely peaceful spot despite several other campers. Stunning views and coastline. Keep your eyes open for otters. We didn't see any but did see several sea eagles and one golden eagle.

Breathtaking!
Simply breathtaking.
I suspect that no matter which direction you take along this spectacular part of Mull's north-western shores you would be afforded views of unparalleled magnificence at every twist and turn.
Drive slowly (or better still, walk) and if driving stop often.

Spent many a happy hour here watching an otter and two cubs and sea eagles fishing. The road is so close to the water that you can stop a number of places and enjoy the view

Loch na Keal is a wonderful loch with fabulous views to Ben More, Ulva, Eorsa and beyond. Drive it one way and hen the other for fantastic views and be sure to hangout at sunset. Be sure to stop and checkout the 3 level waterfall at Allt an Eas Fors, near Kilbrennan

The northern end and high road of Loch na Keal is within Scotland's officially recognised `Most Beautiful Landscapes'.The southern shore is where you have some of the best chances of seeing otters and also sea eagles. In 1.5hrs of cruising along the shore road we saw no less than 8 different otters.A family of three came onto shore to eat their catch.A sea eagle landed on the rocks and allowed me to get pretty close. When it decided enough was enough,t was like watching a 747 take off.
Carrying on round to Gribun, the road becomes truly spectacular, hugging the mountains and sea...you'll want to get past those brooding, crumbling cliffs quickly.I've done Chapman's Peak drive and this, to me, tops it for spectacle. In fact, many of our roads top some of these better celebrated drives.
On the Loch's opposite side, the road climbs high above the northern shore offering superb views to Ben More, the Gribun headland and out to the Treshnish Isles.A magnificent panorama.Plenty parking places at the high point and great picnic lunch spots.

We have stayed in Mull a few times, is there any accommodation near where you can see the fish eagles fishing from the boat and otters (there is a section where you can pull in for quite a number of cars and see the fish eagles in the trees behind. I thought one of the cottages there were self catering or B&b but can’t find them on a site, does anyone know?
Thanks
