Not unattractive. But unfortunately both times we were here was a Sunday and everything was closed. Nice views from the castle grounds and don't miss the "sunken ship" memorial (the Iolaire sinking). Check it out high and low tide.

Had two short visits to the Harbour. One on a day trip and one when waiting for the ferry. It was an interesting place to visit. Some nice restaurants and shops around it too. There was a small market on on the Saturday and it was enjoyable to purchase some nice candles etc.

The harbour is fairly basic, ferry terminal, some fishing boats and a couple of pubs. However, the tide was out and as we looked over the low stone wall the shingle 'beach' was a blaze of sea glass. We spent only five minutes collecting the sea glass but couldn't believe how much there was. At high tide this area is completely under water so timing s important. Lots of nice sculptures around the area and a short walk to the castle. Beware that nothing is open on Sundays so use that day for sightseeing around the island.

Only visited to get 4G and because we had to catch the ferry. Plus it's the only place on the island with shops!

This is an interesting place to wander around but it's certainly not set up as a visitor attraction - it's a working port and ferry terminal. The shops and places to eat are scattered around the back streets but are no great shakes. The evenings also see some slightly intimidating behaviour from local youths, boy racers squealing around and a variety of drunks

We were expecting to have to take a one hour boat trip (for £80) in order to show the children some seals, however the very helpful lady at Stornoway Tourist Information Office suggested just going and standing at the harbour instead. We studied the tide charts, having discovered that they are more common 2 hours before high tide, but found that we would have had to be there at 6.45am rather than 11am. However I am delighted to report that this worked and the moment we wandered up seals appeared providing plenty of opportunities for 'seal selfies'! Thank you for the tip!

Dirty little port without any interesting or special interest. No coffee, take away, without any nice or special interest. Only in new ferry terminal small buffet. Bus station with unhelpful staff - they did not know nothing about public transport only can give hard copy of timetables but were not able to explain which company takes i.e. dogs or how local attractions can be taken by bus. Really strange place....

Not the quaint harbour town we were expecting. Couldn't find anywhere to eat that would accept our dog and ended up having to get take-away fish and chips (which were very good however...Camerons), and the guy in the Tourist Centre confirmed he didn't know anywhere in the town that did...considering the type of people who visit the Outer Hebrides, Stornoway needs to gets its act together and offer more dog friendly facilities. The bus ride from Tarbet was worth the trip however, with some spectacular scenery

This is a very quaint area, quiet during the week. There is a huge variety of shopping, and is a good place to stock up on things before you continue to explore the Outer Hebrides.

Very nice to saunter along the harbour and take all the activity in. Really enjoyed it and especially since the sun was out.

We are visiting here June 9th on the Silverseas Spirit and see that we are going to be berthed at 'Outer Anchorage'. Is there transportation from the ship to attractions in the harbour - is it walkable from the ship? Thank you. GJ

Hi there
Our ship anchored outside the harbour, we had the life boat take us, into the harbour. The town is very near. Also Lews castle is very near 1/2 hour walk, worth the visit, just been renovated, great tea room & Museum.
Enjoy the islanders are very hospitable .🌅
