Founded in 1878 by a few enthusiasts Troon Golf Club soon outgrew its purely local reputation. The Old Course today presents a stern golfing examination and in particular the inward half of Royal Troon is widely accepted as the most demanding of any Course on the Championship rota.

The Open will return to the Ayrshire coast in 2016 when the 145th Championship is played at Royal Troon.

Golfers the world over vie to play Royal Troon's famous courses and we encourage visitors to experience one of the most demanding Championship courses on the circuit. Visitors are most warmly welcomed at Royal Troon Golf Club from mid-April until mid-October each year on Mondays, Tuesday and Thursdays.

The transport arrangements were very well organised - the train and bus being our choice. We took advantage of the 'Twilight' tickets and found that they are strict to the second - 4pm. The facilities are excellent with numerous shops and food outlets. The fast food was amongst the worst I have ever encountered - the beefburger stall was truly... More

Troon golf club and the Royal and Ancient have surpassed themselves with the course condition, the spectator facilities and the ease of access to the course. Have been now by car and by train/shuttle bus - very easy and quick. Fantastic day out and going again with a twilight ticket tonight - great idea when you're working to be able... More

Last golf course we played on our 9 day trip and what a way to end it. The course was getting ready to host the Open Championship with bleachers and towers all over the course. From the moment we got to the course the people there were the best. The gentlemen in the pro shop kept going to another part... More

Blustery conditions, but a great round with a superb caddie. He claimed to have caddied for Tom Watson in the 70's but who knows. That might have been local folklore. The postage stamp green was indeed small, and the course played well and was a good challenge. We ate afterwards in the clubhouse and that was a real treat. A... More

A very special place to play, especially with The a Open being held here this year. Very nice staff. Extremely fun and difficult course. Absolutely amazing. Also be sure to play the free round at The Portland course. Not as famous but just as enjoyable.

Overpriced even for UK citizens. A bit snobby . however course is brilliant. There are dress codes to adhere too as well. Drink and food expensive.
