- Rambling_GiantGlasgow, United Kingdom902 contributionsRogie Falls, Contin …..I’m a sucker for any type of waterfall! Rogie Falls was a joy to see. We managed to get parked (although it was tight for a motorhome). A small fee applied (cash or card) but you’re pretty much located at the start point of both trails (Riverside (blue) more tasking and Salmon (yellow) less so). With two kids in tow, we chose the Salmon trail and let the eldest lead the way. It was less than a ten-minute walk to a modern suspension bridge, which spanned over the Black Water river, giving brilliant visuals of the waterfall in full action. It was a popular landmark - the whole area was heaving with people getting photos. Up until that point, it was probably the best waterfall I’ve witnessed. This would soon be superseded by Corrieshalloch Gorge.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 24, 2024
- Ducky1609Calne, United Kingdom31 contributionsPeace and tranquillityBeautiful location where you can either do a quick walk to the falls or a longer to explore the area. Didn’t see any salmon jumping but that’s ok. The bridge is very responsive to people walking, worth waiting a few minutes to walk or watch. Need to pay for parking but card machine if no cash.Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 9, 2024
- KMHMuscat, Oman43 contributionsThe Salmon's eternal journey at the Rogie Falls, Scottish HighlandsHaving seen the photos posted by others, I was not sure I was going to be all that impressed - the Falls themselves are not much to rave about - there are far more impressive falls in almost all parts of the world. But what makes this one unique is the addition of walking tracks along the tracks and beyond. There are well planned viewpoints, especially for the photography enthusiast. I spent a lot of time taking portratit photos, panaoramic views and videos. The most impressive aspect of the falls, to my mind, is that it is the site of one of nature's greatest journeys: the Salmon fish, born in fresh water pools way up the falls, travels down to the salt water of the sea, but for some reason still not very clear, ALWAYS makes its way back - against the current, going up the falls against the gradient, to reach its place of birth, mate, procreate, and having served its purpose in life, die - without even seeing its progeny! What can be more moving than that! James Michener has given vivid descriptions of this phenomenon in his book on Alaska, but we got to actually see the herculean effort by the Salmon fish at the Rogie Falls. For me, this alone is a reason to return to these Falls again and again. You MUST visit this Falls, and stay patient on the bridge across the Black Water river, your camera on the draw. One sighting of a Salmon fish is enough to make it all worthwhile. Parking is available very close to the Falls, and is very cheap. Take your water bottle and munchies if you plan to trek. Sorry, I am unable to add a video of the brave Salmon trying to scale the waterfalls.Visited September 2024Traveled with friendsWritten September 12, 2024
- TravellingHappilyBrighton, United Kingdom418 contributionsLovely falls, steep-ish pathThis place is definitely worth a stop. There is a car park fee (with no option for motorcycles!). The walk from the car park to the falls is about 30 mins, steep in places. The suspension bridge across the river gives excellent views of the falls. There are public lavatories at the car park.Visited September 2024Traveled with friendsWritten October 1, 2024
- Mark DMelbourne, Australia715 contributionsNature at its bestAmazing after all the rain the falls were in full force easy walk a little bit of mud after the rain. Certainly would be good to see the salmon run wrong time of year. Good views from the bridge and the other side.Visited November 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 1, 2025

There is a magnificent waterfall just outside the parking lot. It is famous for salmon swimming up the river, so there were a relatively large number of people there, but it wasn't too crowded. I watched from the top of the waterfall for a while and was able to see the salmon jumping to swim up the river, which was truly moving. When you feel like you've reached a dead end in life, seeing a small salmon instinctively trying to swim up the powerful river may give you a sense of the law of nature. If you're traveling around this area of Scotland in August or September, I definitely recommend it, as there are apparently salmon there.

We stopped off here on our NC500 tour. The car park is reasonably sized and was nigh on empty on the Sunday morning we were here having arrived fairly early at 10. When we were leaving about an hour later it was full and cars were trying to park on the roadside.
The information board explains the two different routes you can take and we opted to take the longer path which avoids the crowds and takes you up through the woods. There is a weight limit advertised on the leaflet for the bridge (max 6 people) but no one was taking any notice or did not know. It needs a large board actually at the falls.
This is certainly nature at its best and we enjoyed the walk.

We started from the bottom car park and had a lovely forest walk up to the falls. The view from the suspension bridge is amazing and the falls are impressive. The interpretation board from the viewpoint is informative telling the life cycle of the salmon we saw jumping in the pools. There is a top carpark with a shorter walk to the falls and we saw a lot of people coming down from there. But the bottom carpark was nearly empty and the walk up was almost devoid of people. It is well worth parking at the bottom and taking the longer, more scenic way up.

The falls and woods are lovely but it was very busy when we visited in late July 2020, with few observing social distancing or wearing masks. We could not get near the wee bridge (see photo) because selfish people were simply parked there, mask-less, and unmoving for quite long periods. Many dogs were off leads and many, many instances of dog-fouling along an otherwise lovely path to the falls from the car park. Dog owners like this are ruining Scotland. There are lots of quieter waterfalls.

This was our last ‘must see’ attraction that we had put down to see on our tour of the NC500, and it didn’t disappoint. The scenery was gorgeous on the path to the falls and the falls themselves were truly magnificent and such a fitting end to our awesome time on the NC500. We would definitely recommend that you make time to visit this if you are anywhere near these stunning falls.

The walk to the falls was relatively easy along the Salmon Trail. It was well marked, and had a viewing station with several steep steps down to the bridge that crosses over the water.
We were able to view salmon leaping near the upper falls, by observing from the bridge. .
The upper overlook on the other side was chained closed, so the obviously don't want people venturing there.
We arrived early and had no issues with parking. A lot of cars had showed upon our return.
There are public toilets available near the parking lot.
It's a great trail to walk, and can easily be maneuvered with walking sticks if someone has slight mobility issues.

We were on our way back from the NC500 route and came upon this by accident. I'm so pleased we did! Probably the most dramatic waterfall we came across on our trip to Scotland. We took the path with a more difficult terrain, and it took about an hour including stopping to capture the beautiful scenery! Well worth a visit!

We visited Rogie Falls as a family on the recommendation of a friend, so glad we did the place is stunning.
The car park is very small, we had to park our motor home on the side of the road which is quite busy.
Small walk to the falls themselves which can be slightly steep and slippery in places (wear appropriate footwear).
The waterfalls themselves are stunning, there are lots of places to take photographs without getting in other people’s way.
There is a small walk via a footpath across the bridge which leads up the way for a longer walk with lots of forest to explore if you have the time.
I’m so glad we stopped here and would recommend you do the same if passing.
During our visit the toilet block was closed.

I visited early on a Monday morning, and there were already a few cars in the car park. However, it's a decent sized car park, with toilets on site. There's a choice of two trails, one which takes 5 or 10 minutes to the falls. A number of viewing points there, including the bridge. A great place to spend a short amount of time, or longer, if you have it!

I love this place and so do our guests visiting Scotland.
The 10-15 minute walk to the Falls and over the bridge is always worth stopping for.
Free parking and toilets make it the perfect stop.
