A great little place with some wonderful history. Visiting on a windy day made it even more atmospheric. You have to go if you are on Westray!

Fascinating castle with an interesting history. Never completed but well worth this free visit. Climb to the top to get a great island view but so go with a guide to get the best experience

Wonderful castle set amidst the gorgeous landscape of the gorgeous Westray island. quite a few vies to be seen from the higher parts of the castle. Castle has been maintained well by Historic environment Scotland and looks in great shape. Don't miss out!

Visited as part of Westraak tour(recommend ed). We got the stories behind the wacky way it was built and all the features put in by the Balfours.

This castle stop was part of the all day Westraak tour of Westray. Guide Andy gave a very thorough presentation of the history of the castle and the builder, a Scotsman, Gilbert Balfour from Fife.

The castle appears to be open through daylight hours. you wouldn't want to visit at night, the lighting is poor.
