I recommend the heritage centre as one of the most interesting local history collections I have seen. It appears like a genuine labour of love, with a range of information and items. Well worth a visit.

There are well set out displays and friendly staff. There's even free video to watch about the island. And as in other Orkney museums, there are folders about a range of topics.

First and most important, the staff are instrumental to the full experience. If your looking for family or Island history this is the place to go for ledgers, books, articles, videos, etc. The relocated burnt mound and croft takes you back in time to experience...More

On teh beautiful Island of Sanday in the Orkney Islands is the Sanday Heritage Centre, in the tiny Lady Village. Outwardly unprepossessing - quite a small, grey building - it is smart, beautifully laid out and full of interesting exhibits and information about the history...More

We have the Appiehouse Stone on long-term loan from Orkney Museum, so hopefully no danger of it being removed to Edinburgh - although it has already had a trip down there! When it was discovered during renovation work at Appiehouse, Sanday, it was carefully recorded...More

Lots of information on the island, its history (recent and ancient) and wildlife. The temporary exhibition was local shipwrecks and was very interesting. Handily situated in the middle of the island.

This is a wonderfully informative place. There is a wealth of information about Sanday through the years. Free tea and coffee as well and a brilliant archive centre.
