Historic Ruin
Jul 2017 • Couples
Papa Westray is littered with early Christian history, from St Boniface's Kirk to the little known ruins of St Treadwells. This is a middle ages ruined church, only the stones are left. It is on a peninsula on loch and can be reached by walking from 'the village' past the old ruined mill and through some paddocks.

The ruin was built on an old Pictish broch and according to local legend St Treadwell could cure eye problems. The water from the loch is apparently magical. Apparently it is a mixed up story from a Viking legend. It is a church of historical significance although a ruin with a nice view over the loch and towards the village
