I took my children here for a few hours, to show them the wonders and peace of the grotto. I'm glad to say that they have touched their inner peace since they've came.

Nice to connect with yourself

This is a great place to escape from everyday pressures if you make the time. Unfortunately, the Pilgrimage Centre that until recently provided facilities for visitors, was closed due to a commercial decision by the Bishop of the diocese, which is a great pity as this will deter people from visiting.

Words can’t describe this wonderful place

I really can’t express how amazing this serene , beautifully kept place is. I only learned that it existed a couple of months ago as was in the area staying for a couple of nights with my husband. We wandered around the gardens in beautiful sunshine gasping at how wonderful Carfin grotto is. I caught mass in the chapel which made our visit even more special. I live 90 miles away but will be back. It is a free place to visit and I’ve been told there’s no more money to keep it open. We’d have happily have paid to visit. I pray that it dosent close

An Oasis in a heavily populated part of central Scotland, where one can find peace and quiet, and contemplate on ones spiritual needs.

Excellent Place and Location for wandering around,Beautiful Gardens. . The staff make this a great place to plan another visit. Would Highly Recommend It. sadly I hear Closure of Carfin Pilgrimage Centre

Carfin Pilgrimage Centre was opened in July 1996 and since then has provided a range of services to pilgrims visiting the Grotto. The services now mainly comprise a gift shop and café within the premises.

However, for most of this period, the Centre has had to rely on financial subsidies from the Diocese to remain operational and this position has become further exacerbated recently by the indication of the need to incur significant additional expenditure to meet statutory food and hygiene and health and safety standards expected today.

Unfortunately the footfall and use of the Centre is not sufficient to bring in sufficient income to meet day to day operational costs, notwithstanding the potential improvement costs indicated, and therefore, after considerable thought and discussion, the Diocesan Trustees have decided that there is no alternative but to close the Centre with effect on Tuesday 30th September 2019.

This decision has been taken with deep regret bit I feel it is a decision which has had to be made.

I would like to express my thanks to the management and staff at the Pilgrimage Centre for their excellent work, service and commitment to the Centre over the past 23 years.

Discussions will take place with Fr McGachey, the parish priest of St Francis Xavier Parish, on the provision of alternatives facilities when the Centre closes.

This is a little known place of comfort and peace. I am not of the catholic faith but frequently head here to 'clear my head of the hustle and bustle' . One pretty special thing that always strikes me is that as soon as you enter, the noise of the busy road ..disappears to be replaced with birdsong and peace, this always amazes me. But it is a wonderful, spiritual place to me and I alwaysfind comfort and peace here. Try it... should be on NHS prescription.

A must visit if in the area.
Feb 2019
We visit regularly and while I am “not of the faith” I enjoy every visit for the peacefulness, serenity and ambiance of the complex.
It is a a haven of tranquility in an ocean turmoil, a real opportunity to recharge the soul, lovely buildings with lots to see as a visitor, all built with love and devotion, this obvious as you explore the complex.
They have a delightful inexpensive cafe staffed by volunteers who clearly enjoy their work, during the season take time to smell the roses - amazing, so fragrant especially after it has been raining.
We enjoy each and every visit and appreciate the opportunity to “recharge” the soul and take time to contemplate.
Not to be missed.
