Take a camera!📸
A lovely beach with fantastic views over Ailsa Craig & Pladda Island.
With a rugged shoreline below impressive cliffs, where black basalt rocks extend out into the sea!
We managed to find the elusive dinosaur footprint at low tide!
We weren't the only ones enjoying the afternoon sunshine. It was a real treat to see the colony of seals basking on the rocks, almost posing for the camera!

Visited on Thursday 08th September 2022 Day trip to the Isle of Arran. The first stretch (having chosen to go the Southern route) was to Kildonan as it was listed as a potential site of resting seals, and a view of the nearby Ailsa Craig and Pladda Island. There was a small parking area near the cliff edge, which leads down to a small child play area.

Rocky and sandy beach. The nicest beach on the island. It’s quiet, secluded, relaxing. It’s the nicest beach environment. Surrounded by big tall rocks. The family always love to climb them. It’s definitely a fun activity to do with the family, you could spend a good while there.
The road is quite near the beach but because it’s at the bottom of the island so it’s not at all busy, it’s not a risk for dogs to be off lead. Lucky if there’s even one car that passes. Very quiet place, with the sounds of the waves being the only noise. It’s a nice difference and escape from the busy town that me and my family are from. It’s a bit of a trek to get there.
Parking is very limited but it’s not a busy place. Recommend a visit if you’ve got time. But there’s not much else to do in that particular area of the island though when you’re there. The hotel nearby is the only option for refreshments, but there’s nicer options elsewhere on the island.

The beach is rugged and stony, but we saw lots of seals very close by. They were just playing and basking. Super cute!

As far as beaches on Arran are concerned, I reckon the one at Kildonan is the best. It’s a very peaceful area and you can either sit up at the top to take in the views or perhaps spot some basking seals.
Otherwise you can go down to the sands and enjoy some wonderful strolls with fantastic scenery of the distant mainland and the iconic Ailsa Craig.

Well worth the very short detour from the main road to visit this lovely beach where you can often see seals. We saw several. There are wonderful views of Ailsa Craig and Pladda Island and lighthouse from the beach. The road down to Kildonan is fine and there are several small areas where you can park.

A really stunning area with beautiful views of Ailsa Craig. The beach is lovely with plenty of rock pools to keep the kids busy. Lovely sandy area and we were lucky enough to see a seal sunbathe on one of the rocks.Well worth a visit. No shops, so take a picnic some chairs and chill.
