Visited on Thursday 08th September 2022 Day trip to the Isle of Arran. The first stretch (having chosen to go the Southern route) was to Kildonan as it was listed as a potential site of resting seals, and a view of the nearby Ailsa Craig and Pladda Island. There was a small parking area near the cliff edge, which leads down to a small child play area.

The beach is rugged and stony, but we saw lots of seals very close by. They were just playing and basking. Super cute!

Well worth the very short detour from the main road to visit this lovely beach where you can often see seals. We saw several. There are wonderful views of Ailsa Craig and Pladda Island and lighthouse from the beach. The road down to Kildonan is fine and there are several small areas where you can park.

A really stunning area with beautiful views of Ailsa Craig. The beach is lovely with plenty of rock pools to keep the kids busy. Lovely sandy area and we were lucky enough to see a seal sunbathe on one of the rocks.Well worth a visit. No shops, so take a picnic some chairs and chill.

Great beach you must visit. Very easily accessed via campsite and hotel. Great for family with shallow water and breathtakingly stunning views.

As far as beaches on Arran are concerned, I reckon the one at Kildonan is the best. It’s a very peaceful area and you can either sit up at the top to take in the views or perhaps spot some basking seals.
Otherwise you can go down to the sands and enjoy some wonderful strolls with fantastic scenery of the distant mainland and the iconic Ailsa Craig.

A nice beach but when we went there was a dead bird there and a dead seal. Lots of rocks and parking nearby.

Had a walk along the beach area it is very rocky but worth spending a bit of time looking at the 360 degree vistas sadly didn’t see any dolphins but there were a few different sea birds strutting around. Nice quiet area.

Parking is easy anywhere near the beach and there is a well trodden path leading you to the main beach and beyond where the main attraction is the seal colony. Well worth the effort to get there, occasionally you will see cows on the beach as well but they have never bothered anyone as far as I know. The seals are lovely to look at, basking in what was really hot sun, but don’t get too close. If they get spooked they will enter the water, which they really don’t want to do. Enjoy them from a safe distance.
