Cool off at Cranny Falls
Jul 2021
On a very intensive sunny warm weekend me and some friends took the journey up the lovely East Antrim coastline to the village of Carnlough, where we made the walk from the car park on the Factory Road to the junction of Waterfall Road along the footpath and then onto the Cranny Falls walkway. It was burning walk with the mid day sun and temperatures around the mid 20's but we were glad to get to the Cranny Falls where we could admire the waterfall and cool off from the unusually high temperatures. Great area to get a photo or two and if are lucky you could spot a Red Squirrel but this time no luck but well worth the trip.

Worth the trek ...
Aug 2020
We walked from the village centre up a well maintained tarmac path which follows the track of the old mining train. The view at the top, to the right, over the sea bay is worth a look. Descend back to the info board and bear right down a lane and enter the nature reserve. This is a beautiful place of wild flowers and grasses giving a rich carpet of colour on the limestone hills. The rain was gushing from fissures in the rock wall high above as you ascend on a good path to the falls. The water cascades from quite a height and it all looks like a tropical rain forest ... in Britain!

It is a good wee walk to see Cranny Falls but well worth it if you have a nice sunny day and enjoy walking . Well worth seeing if you are travelling along the North Antrim coast .

Gorgeous waterfall and an easy walk from town
Aug 2020
We walked from Carnlough via the tramway at the top of the Harbour Lights cafe. It's a steady gentle incline of about 2km and easily walkable even with my dodgy knees! Benches along the route make it easier as well. There is a sign saying the path is closed due to a rockfall but the fall appears to have been cleared.

The falls are worth a visit. Really pretty and hidden away and the views of the Antrim coastline are stunning.

Views of Carnlough Village and the Cranny Falls Waterfall
Jul 2020
In the seaside village of Carnlough you can find the beginning of a walking trail which takes you from the middle of the village all the way to an area known as the Gortin Glen and further still to the Cranny Falls. The path follows the old railway line that used to feed the harbour area with the rich mineral stones from the Gortin Quarry. At the end of the main path there is an old Stone Building and a path that lead up to the quarry and to the Viewpoint. From the Viewpoint you will see panoramic views of Carnlough village and the Irish sea which is perfect for a photo or 2. From the main path you can then follow it to a crossroads which will eventually lead you to Cranny Falls waterfall. The Waterfall is a local spectacle and the walk along the river with the wildflowers on either side is an enjoyable and maybe if you are lucky you can also spot a native Red Squirrel, but you have to be really lucky for that.

Beautiful waterfall

A lovely walk from the harbour with great views over Carnlough from the view point at the quarry, all finalised with a stunning waterfall at the end. On the right day, you can spot red squirrels. Just avoid the dog excrement en route which is the only thing that lets this trip down.

Great spot for a Hike

A visit to Cranny Falls was a well guarded secret until recently by Carnlough locals. It's a beautiful nature reserve with an amazing waterfall after heavy rain.
