Mapperton is a glorious sandstone manor house and romantic valley garden deep in a lost Dorset combe among tumbling hills and unspoiled countryside. Fifteen acres of gardens descend from the croquet lawn, through the formal topiary down to the wild garden. Mapperton is the home of the Earl and Countess of Sandwich, and welcomes visitors to the Gardens from 1 March to 31 October, to the House from 2 April to 31 October, and to the Sawmill Cafe from 2 April to 31 October.

Thank you so much Mapperton family and co for a thoroughly enjoyable visit. We loved it straight away as it hadn't got the manicured National Trust look. The tour around house was informative and humorous and was an hour of interest about the history of...More

Despite what some are saying here, we found this to be one of the loveliest gardens we have seen in a long time and we visit lots of gardens. Topiary is usually cut twice a year and as a living organism does continue to grow,...More

We visited the gardens on our way home from a trip to Devon. The sunken Italianate garden looks interesting from above, but on closer inspection needs a lot of work to bring it up to a good standard. We were not offered any maps or...More

As member of the National Trust, we are used to be regaled with amazing properties and their histories. It seems that the owners of Mapperton don't seem to know quite what to do with it. Accepted that the house is from different periods - Tudor...More
