I loved this attraction, it was so different to any other wildlife experience I'd had before. There is an interesting talk before you go to the hide. Then a short walk down to the hide where you are seated in front of a glass panel where your eyes are at just above the ground level outside. The host scatters peanuts in front of the outside of the hide and you just sit quietly and along come the badgers. I was surprised how quickly they came along, it was maybe only 10 minutes the night we were there before the first one came out. I think they stayed for about an hour the night we were there. They come almost right up to the glass by the end of the night so you get a really up-close-and-personal view of them. Whilst you are watching and when you are waiting for them to turn up the host continues talking giving more info about the badgers. We saw 5 on our night.

I don't think this is something you could get to with public transport so would need your own car. There is one toilet you can visit as you walk to the hide but none while you are in the hide so go at the beginning of the night if you need to. I don't think this is a wheelchair friendly attraction due to the downhill walk to the hide but you wouldn't need to be especially mobile or fit, it is quite a short walk. On regular nights there is no photography allowed, they sometimes do specific nights just for photography enthusiasts.

After so many great reviews I have finally found out how to respond and found the time to do so! Thank you for your kind review and I'm glad you enjoyed seeing the badgers so close. We have worked hard over the last 18 years to get them to come so close and feel comfortable with people in the hide. Although it is difficult to get to us on public transport, we will always do our best to make it possible by collecting small groups (up to 4 maximum) from bus stops, bus station or railway station a few miles away. Unfortunately it is not wheelchair friendly but still possible to get a wheelchair down and back to the hide with the help of a strong able assistant. Visitors would have to bring their own assistant who we would happily give a complimentary place to on evenings which are not fully booked. Regards, Anne

My wife and I were enjoying a mini beak near Tiverton with our six year old son and nine year old daughter. After excursions to Lynton and then Lyme Regis, we decided to search for a local attraction to visit which did not require a long drive.

We came across the Devon Badger Watch which was only a few miles away from our rented cottage. Since we had never experienced anything like this before, particularly coming from a big city, we decided to give it a go. I have travelled to many places around the world and engaged in many different adventures, however,I must say that this was one of the most exciting and enjoyable things we have ever done with the kids!

First, the walk through the farmyard and into the woods felt as if we were entering a fairy tale world. Once we entered the cabin, we amazed to see how close the badgers came - they are within touching distance. The children were mesmerised and so were we!

This is something you simply must experience - it is truly incredible and very informative.

Just my wife and I on this Badger watch. Once in the vicinity of the Badger set you are not able to make any noise or say anything. You then go into the hide and Kevin put some peanuts out and cleaned the windows. Right on cue 5 badgers appeared feeding and playing. They are so close its incredible. Kevin is a real Badger expert and tells us about the Badgers we are seeing and about Badgers in general in a hushed mono tone voice so that the badgers are not disturbed. After half an hour they all drifted off into the wood and we returned to the visitors centre where Kevin was able to answer all our questions. It was a fantastic experience for us to be so close to these amazing animals. I am also filled with admiration for Kevin (and his wife Anne) who are clearly dedicated to their badgers and clearly understand Badgers and their behaviour very well indeed.

Unfortunately they are not open in 2022 due to Covid. Completely understandable, but there was no reply to my booking email, and nothing on the website to indicate that it is closed. When I rang, the attitude was curt, bordering on rude. Perhaps update the website?

I am sorry that you were disappointed with your visit. We have to try to balance the natural environment with making the experience as easy and comfortable as we can for our human visitors. Animals are smelly, that is part of the natural environment. As for the toilet facilities, they are clean and functional. I am at a loss as to what you expected from your visit and you are the first person ever to leave such a review, but we will continue to try to make sure our visitors see badgers in as natural environment as possible.

My wife and I decided we wanted to learn a little more about Badgers so we visited the Badger Watch. You get all the instructions emailed to you after you have confirmed and paid for your visit. Its all very easy and there are instructions on their website.

We arrived in the early evening and were treated to a walk down to the hide and lots of information on the way. We didn't have to wait long for the badgers and they all came out to play right in front of us. We watched for about 45 minutes and then headed back to the centre. This was a great activity and I'm going back in the better weather to take part in one of their photographic evenings!

We didn't quite know what to expect from the evening. All arrangements were made quite secretly over the phone to protect the badgers set. The drive along the farm track was a challenge and I wouldn't advise anyone to attempt it with a low car if they want to keep their exhaust pipe.
We were the only two attending so were lucky enough to have Kevin and the badgers all to ourselves. The walk down to the hide is fairly steep but there was no rush. My husband walks with a stick and managed it so take your time and don't be put off - you really don't want to miss this unique experience. The hide was comfortable and amazingly close to the badgers. Kevin spoke in hushed tones giving us loads of information and opinions about these beautiful creatures .We had been instructed not to speak as the badgers could be spooked. He scattered peanuts and then we waited. Very soon seven badgers came out and noisily munched their way through the nuts, groomed, snuffled around and after about an hour, went about their business and we were led away and back up the slope and across the field. We had a chance to ask questions after this and felt we learnt a lot. It was an amazing night. Wow.

An amazing experience that comes highly recommended. When I booked the family on, I didn't realise just how close we would be able to get to them ... awesome. Kevin was very informative and it was great to hear a reasoned and scientific based argument on bovine TB. This was definitely a highlight of our week in Devon ... for both adults and kids. It must have been good ... the kids remained silent for an hour!!

We had a very interesting evening with Kevin. He knows everything there is to know about badgers and told a great story when we were waiting for the animals. The badgers are beautiful to see in real life. Really amazing creatures. I would recommend it to any nature lover. It’s a bit difficulty to get there, but worth the drive.

We turned up, 2 adults and a 10 year old, at 5.45; the time we were specifically emailed to be there by. The host didn’t turn up until 6. We had a 10 year old with us. The host didn’t remotely try to engage with us or her. The badgers were amazing; we weren’t disappointed in that. Our 10 year old was a good deal quieter than one of the middle aged adults who attended.
