Fantastic local museum with a proper train!
We visited with small grandchildren. This is a regular haunt, because they love the steam train especially, but there’s plenty more to enjoy - beautiful carts, cooking utensils and much much more, although we were pulled through much of it at speed towards the train! We also played with the train track for quite a while and enjoyed the bicycles and old mini car. The shop has some interesting things, good books too. The staff are lovely, really enthusiastic and helpful. Parking is conveniently across the road, £2.20 for two hours. Definitely worth a visit or more. Do visit, it’s a fantastic local resource and there’s a lot to enjoy.
Thank you for leaving such a positive review! We love hearing how families of all ages enjoy the museum. Great experience for young and not so young!
We have had a wonderful experience today, looking round Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life. What a brilliant exhibition, with so much to see from ages past, up to the time when our children were small. We are in our 70's, and spent nearly two hours browsing, but could well have spent another hour or so, as it is so full of exciting exhibits, and so well signed and labelled, that you just want to stop and read everything. It clearly has every age group in mind, and caters well for children, with all sorts of play areas and dressing up corners. The staff were really friendly, and I mentioned on the way out how much we had enjoyed our visit, and that I would be doing a review on Trip Advisor. Parking close by in a multi story carpark. Our first visit, and a brilliant find. Thank you.
Thanks for leaving us such a lovely review. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your visit. We will pass on your kind comments about our volunteers. We hope you will come and visit again soon.

    Wonderful
A lot bigger than it looks from outside. Lots of stuff over two floors and in another building outside. High points for me were the steam engine and the fire engine. Good displays on farming and on domestic life (kitchen gallery etc). Felt a bit old seeing the old toys/books downstairs as I had some of them! Very conveniently located for both central car park and bus station. Would definitely recommend if visiting Tiverton.
Thank you for your review Mike. We are glad you enjoyed many aspects of the museum's displays. I hope you pulled the whistle on the steam engine!? We hope to see you again.

Good location and value for money.
A great experience for all ages. We have just spent a a good 2hours wandering around the Tiverton Museum. All exhibits are clearly identified with information. We have never seen so many working carts in one place. The old steam engine was in great conditions with things on it that children could play with (or grandparents). The Museum holds much more than you imagine. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. It's well worth a visit.
Thank you for your review Terri, We are very pleased to hear ho much you enjoyed the museum and our collection. Everyone plays on our Tivvy Bumper steam engine; it's definitely not just for the kids!

Top marks for chlid friendly and accessible museum with lovely staff.
We brought a small group of families, all with children with both sight loss and other disabilities, to the museum. We were made to feel very welcome by the staff and volunteers. The museum was excellent - full of interesting exhibits but also SO much for the children to do. Very hands on. It made it very worthwhile. Top marks for accessibility, child friendliness and staff support. We were really impressed. Thank you for a lovely day.
Thanks so much for your review. We were delighted to welcome you all to the museum and hope to see you again soon.

    Absolutely brilliant
Absolutely brilliant. A hidden gem tucked away in mid Devon.Took my granaughters (aged 7 an 9) and had a wonderful two hours. Excellent dressing up and games for children and the local history presentations are first class. Displays end with stunning railway exhibition and you can pull the horn on a real train!
Thanks very much for your review Graham! We are delighted that you and your granddaughters enjoyed the museum. If you live locally you may be interested in our membership scheme which gives free entry for 12 months. We hope to see you again soon.

    Brilliant Museum Suitable for Everyone
What a brilliant museum full of informative displays. Taking you through the history of the area. A wide range of artefacts makes it suitable for everyone. From farm equipment, skills, tools, kitchen, handicraft, wartime the displays go on and on. Culminating in a full size steam engine that you can climb on board and sound the whistle. Highly recommend. Suitable for everyone.

    Needs more than a day
I really didn't know what to expect but it was much more interesting and had such a wide range, it was enchanting. The details of life in a Victorian town was excellent. I was especially impressed with the explanations. The down side was the cost. Almost a tenner, and how splendid if they were to allow say a week on the same ticket

We came to your museum today (got there just after 1pm) and we just wanted to say it was the best museum experience we have ever encountered!

We came along with our 4 children. 3 of them are autistic. Usually museum visits are very fraught for us as most often our autistic children cannot cope.

The staff/volunteers who welcomed us (there was a man on front desk/lady on another desk/another man who I think may have been new?) were absolutely lovely - we felt welcomed and comfortable immediately. It just felt very warm and we were given loads of information and guidance.

Just wanted to give some positive feedback and thanks to the lovely staff/volunteers- it all made for an enjoyable afternoon.

Thank you :)

Thank you so much for your review Michelle - it means a lot to us that you and your family felt so welcome and had such a good time. We have passed your comments onto the volunteers on duty who were delighted (including one who was indeed on his first day). We hope to see you again soon!

This is an excellent local museum with plenty to keep you interested. There are local themes as well as a nostalgic look at every day items such as kitchen gadgets, toys and games. Young children are giving the opportunity to engage with exhibitions with plenty of hands-on experiences and dressing. Highlight has to be the Tivvy Bumper with original station signage. Allow minimum of 2 hours to look around.

Had a fantastic time at Tiverton Museum with my young children. There were plenty of fun activities with toys scattered around the museum. They loved the activity backpacks. This is a really fantastic museum and exceptionally well thought out to provide interest for young children.

Looked a bit small and thought £5.50 entrance fee a bit steep. However, it keeps on going. After walking around the two floors you then go outside where there's a steam engine in a hall with many other artefacts. Re-thought the fee and reckon it's very good value for money.
