We have just spent a wonderful day at Tapeley Park Gardens. The gardens are beautiful and it is a lovely relaxed environment to wander around. We loved the permaculture garden and walked the labyrinth. The cafe has amazing cakes and light lunches and our spaniel was given an incredibly warm welcome with multiple dog biscuits! The history of the park is also beautifully described by the owner, Hugo, in the history room and in the brochure. His love of the estate and organic farming come through loud and clear as his great passion.

Lovely place to visit with three generations for an afternoon. Enjoyable walks to both the lake (quite a steep walk back up) and the monument (worth the walk for the fantastic views!) and lovely gardens to explore. The tea room is well worth a visit and we can highly recommend any of the cakes and the savoury scones, made with local produce from the gardens! The children loved the play area and we all enjoyed our stroll around the gardens. Lots of easy parking and prices are extremely reasonable. Highly recommend for a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

My husband and I visited Tapeley Park this weekend. It was our second visit, the first time was with our daughter and 2 grandchildren. We had a wonderful experience on both occasions. We spent several hours there each visit and my husband and I could have stayed much longer if it wasn’t for having to head home. The lady in reception remembered us from our previous visit and we also had a lovely chat with an elderly gentleman who lives locally and he was able to tell us a lot of history regarding Tapeley Park and the Christie family. There are plenty of seats around the estate which enables you to sit and enjoy the surroundings and peaceful environment no matter where you are. If I lived locally, I would happily purchase an annual entry ticket just to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet and sit and read a book😀

Tapeley has lovely gardens and grounds for a 2hr wander about, and the lady at the front desk was delightful to chat to. My friends and I had a cream tea there and I have to say, this was the most disappointing bit. Tapeley missed a trick here and it wouldn’t take much to fix. The garden by the cafe and house: beautiful. The inside of the cafe: beautiful and decorated very well. (Needs artwork though). However: the scones served for one person were 3 tiny scones, with a tiny bit of cream and jam for £7 (inc tea). Nothing special. Tapeley; you need to have “farm shop”‘giant size scones for such a setting, with fresh strawberry jam and generous clotted cream. People would make afternoon tea at Tapeley an occasion and be willing to spend more on cakes and sandwiches if this was fixed. We could have mini scones like that anywhere else and expected more for £7. The other cakes and biscuits were tiny and equally pricey for what it is. All of this would be fixed by a professional baker behind the scenes, and not leaving things to sell out by 2pm. The standard was not befitting of the setting.

We decided to visit Tapeley Park using our Gardeners World two for one entry ticket. The gardens are lovely and there is lots to see. The lady in reception has been there for years and is as friendly as ever.
We walked down to the lake, and then on to the monument and labyrinth with amazing views over the estuary. As we walked back down it began to rain so we headed for the tea room, which does seem a little expensive. Not sure why other reviewers think people would spend more if the quality of tearoom was improved, but each to their own and it suited us perfectly. When the weather is more favourable it is nice to site at the tables outside.
Afterwards we walked round the lovely gardens with so much to see, little buildings dotted here and there, fab italian gardens. The only downside was that the straw bale house was closed, but we can re-visit.
I love Hector's permaculture garden and it made me realise that not everything has to look perfect

I spent a lovely, sunny September afternoon exploring the woods and gardens of Tapeley Park with my dog. This is such a special place. I loved the contrast between the formal elegance of the Italian and kitchen gardens, and the wild beauty of the walk down to and around the hidden lake. Such wonderful views, such peace and quiet, with plenty of places to sit and just 'be' . The lady in the reception area was very friendly and helpful. The guidebook is delightfully informative; written by a family member who clearly knows and loves every inch of the place. I would love to visit again.

Really enjoyed walking around the gardens and grounds of Tapeley House - a bit of a hidden gem! The atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed, not stuffy or uptight like some stately homes can be. Informal planting looked beautiful in the July sunshine. Worth a walk down to the permaculture garden and also out to the labyrinth. The setting for the tea room is also lovely, but the provisions could be improved - kitchen seemed a bit chaotic, some cakes displayed uncovered (during covid pandemic) and the quality of the scones was not great. Still, it was lovely to sit and have a cuppa on the lawns.

What a beautiful place. Met friends for lunch and it was delicious. So tasty and the salad with the savoury tartlet was so colourful. Should have allowed more time as we only managed to see the lake and the monument. Will have to go back to see the bits I missed. On top of that - what a view from the car park over Bideford, Appledore and Instow. As a final cherry on the cake, was the organic veg and fruit for sale outside the reception for ridiculously cheap prices. Took home some red and yellow plums, sweet and tasty and masses for £1

We live locally but have never visited Tapeley Park before. We shall definitely visit again. It was beautiful. From the warm welcome and useful information on arrival we felt like we were on holiday. The gardens, grounds and views are stunning. We also walked up to the monument and down to the lake and finished off our lovely relaxed few hours with a delicious flapjack and earl grey tea on the lawn on proper china! The lady in the tea room was also friendly and welcoming. This place is a real delight. Thank you.

What a fantastic location. Found it by accident after travelling back from Appledore. Saw signs & decided to visit next day. Emailed & enquired about tea-shop opening & very helpful lady replied on a Sunday! Took our dog with us who was welcomed by everyone we met. Started with tea outside. Lovely loose tea in pots & beautiful China tea set. Hubbie & I had Bakewell slice, polenta lemon & flapjack. Doglet lay on her blanket while we admired the view. Then we walked around the grounds making sure we took in the Permaculture Gardens. Extra wow factor there! Stayed for lunch & sampled nettle soup & pate salad. All veggies grown on site. Had to drag ourselves away. Met lots of other dog owners. All in all a wonderful experience. Very friendly staff. Clean loos. Pet friendly. Cafe had gluten free & all allergy options covered. Great venue. :) Enjoyed every minute of our visit. xxx
