About
Once part of the ancient Dartmoor Forest, Bellever promises something for everyone to discover among its towering trees, lively wildlife, and fascinating archaeology. Head for Bellever Tor to soak up stunning views of the surrounding national park and Devon countryside, or pick your favourite spot for an unforgettable picnic along the beautiful East Dart River. Look out for the native Dartmoor ponies grazed by the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust and listen carefully for woodland birds as they forage in the tree canopy. Please do not feed the animals and take all you litter home with you. Camping and overnight sleeping is not allowed in the forest. Find a campsite for your needs at dartmoor.gov.uk.

So happy we visited this place, absolutely stunning, nature and wildlife, these types of places are what make the United Kingdom so beautiful. Lovely 4 hour walk around with our dog who loved it.

Wonderful!
Oct 2020 • Friends
A really special place in the heart of Dartmoor. The Bellever forest & Tor are both really spectacular and really eye pleasing. The parking is spot on and the river is really cool. One of my favourite spots in Dartmoor!

Picturesque
Aug 2020 • Family
I have been trying to remember this spot for 20 years. It is every bit as picturesque as I remember. The uniqueness of the Dartmoor land leading into an forest setting, divided by a small river makes for the perfect day out for a family. It did get quite busy but was expected for August. They have recently imposed a camping/fire ban which can only be a good thing, protectIng this beauty spot what sounded like something that got out of hand.

Bellever Forest no-camping rules being enforced
Aug 2020
Things have changed here. There is now a prohibition on overnight sleeping and camping and there are no tents allowed at any time in an area around Bellever and Riddon Ridge. Open fires are not allowed and the Bellever Forest car-park is locked shut by a barrier at 6pm. This is being enforced under Dartmoor Commons Bylaws in a friendly way by marshals and Dartmoor National Park rangers who provide an useful leaflet listing alternative camping places. This ex[plains that after weeks of sustained pressure this area of Dartmoor needs time to recover: people have been building fire pits and leaving large amounts of litter and as there are no toilet facilities available the area has been littered with soiled toilet tissue. Well done the Dartmoor National Park! This will make it a much cleaner tidier place for a day trip.

Wild camping
Aug 2020 • Couples
Popular spot for wild camping, lots of people camping along the river. Toilets were open during the day. Car park states £50 for parking to camp but the ticket machine was out of action.
Considering Dartmoor is open for responsible wild camping it seems to be very difficult to find anywhere to park to do this so Bellever is good in that respect.

A great place to visit
Jul 2020 • Family
A nice walk though the forest with free parking close by, you can walk to the river via the circular planned route or to the top of Belliver tor, close to post bridge too.

Bad walking trail signage
Jul 2020
We set out to do the 'easy' walking trail from the car park near to the Clapper Bridge to go to the Bellever Tor. We started the walk OK and followed the coloured trail posts but found ourselves miles out of our way and nowhere near the Tor. A disappointing outcome and very bad signage so don't trust it too much. Otherwise it's a lovely, circular walk through the pine forest if that's all you want.

Photo walk
Sep 2019 • Solo
A popular location and as ever very busy with dozens of tourists “posing” on the old clapper bridge. Better to go to this location in winter. Did not stay long.
