Gentle Scenic Ride

Gentle ride suitable for all abilities and with some stunning views. If you want to cross the viaduct but not cycle the whole thing then start at the Oakhampton end.

A great way to cycle through the countryside on a level track. It was interesting to go through the disused quarry with its railway line and then into rolling countryside. The trail ends suddenly when you pop through a gate into what I now know is Lydford village. At the bottom of the village is the NT Lydford Gorge. We... More

I arrived at Meldon by the Dartmoor Railway sunday train service from Okehampton. I enjoyed the walk from Meldon to Sourton Cross and also the diversion along the Meldon Valley to the nearby reservoir and dam, there is plenty of industrial architecture to see. There are superb views from Meldon viaduct, with the railway carriage cafe alongside. The Granite Way... More

We stopped to join this walk/cycle way at the Sourton part to give the dog a walk and stretch our legs. It was a very pleasant sunny day. The views are great. The path is tarmac and pretty flat here and an easy walk. I walk with a stick and had no difficulty with the bit we walked. There is... More

This route was wonderful to cycle along. We were able to hire bikes too. Would recommend cycling along here on a warm day, there are plenty of places to stop for a rest and a bite to eat along the track .

Highly recommend cycling the Granite Way on your own bike or one hired from Devon Cycle Hire (V.friendly and helpful staff). Take the route to Okehampton and you'll go over the Meldon Viaduct which is simply breathtaking, and then onto Okehampton Station which is like going back in time to the 40's (great for a tea/coffee/cake/lunch). The route to Lidford... More

Highly recommend hiring a bike from Devon Cycle Hire and biking along this beautiful path. The views are superb and there are plenty of places to stop to eat or drink just off the cycle way.

Just dropped in on the granite way for an afternoon ride, read the reviews and it sounded stunning. We were not disappointed, the views are simply stunning. The ride itself was easy on mostly Tarmac paths, small section of rough but not too long. We parked at okehampton station, pleasantly surprised that we didn't have to pay for parking. Rode... More
