Well maintained structure and informative display board make this an interesting castle to visit. Managed by English Heritage, it is free entry and forms part of a walk around the village including the Saxon Town Banks, Norman Castle and St Petroc Church

This village has kept a memorable charm and we can’t wait to go back. Visit the Lydford Hotel, Gorge, Castle, Church and Castle Pub. All worth the time and trip. You will feel your pulse slow down. Wonderful place to unwind and relax.

Great building steeped in tales and history not done justice by the pathetic signage. Come on English Heritage! Visitor information needs much improved. The site itself is worth exploring and a walk around.

This small castle is very cute sat upon a small hill. It is free to walk into and around, but there isn't too much to see. I'd say it'd take only 10mins to look around. We visited as it was next to the pub we...More

Costs nothing to walk in, there and paths and steps to get around the small ruin. Worth a look is you are in the area and it’s next to a pub!

This wasn't ever actually a castle, but a prison. There is some interesting information available and the dog loved it.

We had an afternoon exploring Lydford, including the stannary court and prison, which looks more like a castle. Inside the dungeons are grim and the remains of the court can be seen. It is on a mound and is more like a castle than a...More

Yes. The site is much like a park. In case you are wondering dogs on leads are also allowed on the walk around Lydford Gorge but I would only take a dog on that walk if they are very well behaved as the paths can be... More
