About
Guernsey Museum at Candie is a small, award-winning museum set in beautiful public gardens in St. Peter Port. We have a permanent exhibition of the early history of Guernsey and artworks from the museum collection. Our three other galleries house varied, non-permanent exhibits and displays (please see our website or Facebook page for up-to-date information). Our gift shop is well stocked with local gifts and souvenirs, locally produced art, cards, toys and confectionary. We also sell a large selection of local books both fiction and non-fiction. We have a café on site serving meals, snacks and drinks and a dedicated space for young visitors called the Discovery Room.

- GeoffTorquay102 contributionsWell worth a visitReally interesting exhibition of many facets of the history and traditions of the island. Renoir exhibition also well presented- his time on the island was prolific in output and you could get a good close-up look at his work. Only fly in the ointment was the booking system which was online only even if there were vacant slots when customers turned up so casual visitors were thwarted which was a shame for everyone. Tail wagging the dog methinks! Many thanks for posting a review, we are pleased you enjoyed the Renoir exhibition. We introduced online booking as the number of people allowed into the building at any one time is limited as we need to maintain an environment suitable for the conservation of the loaned artworks, and online booking gives us control of this. If there are vacant slots for the current hour we are able to sell tickets but many of the sessions are sold out. Sessions start on the hour and are valid for the hour only so to guarantee a ticket customers should book online.Written October 26, 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 13, 2023

- swift-simbaCamberley, United Kingdom8,330 contributionsGreat Museum to visitWhen we went they also had an exhibition of Renoir art on display. You had to book a slot online as it was so popular. As we had bought Guernsey discovery pass it was free to visit. For parking you need to have a parking card on which you display the time you arrive. We parked in Upland road right near the museum. The Renoir exhibition was very interesting and his works of art are very beautiful. We were surprised that the paintings were not very big. However they were beautiful. There were other art works by other artists there to. The museum also had some very interesting exhibits about Guernsey and gave some details of the Guernsey History. It is in a beautiful setting and well worth a visit.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 8, 2023

Jack (I belive, amaerican dude) who was working was extremely knowledgeable. And was more than happy chatting away with me for a while. He's a credit to the company. Will happily return in the future. JordanVisited May 2024Traveled soloWritten May 26, 2024

It might be small, but it's a real treasure trove of all things related to the island and a great place for those who want to know more about Guernsey to start - I love the gallery on folklore! Museum giftshop is also great and there are beautiful gardens nearbyVisited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 22, 2024

The old park bandstand makes a great adjoining cafe, and don’t forget to ask at the desk to visit Victoria Tower. We spent a couple of hours here.Visited September 2024Traveled with friendsWritten September 23, 2024

Not suitable for adults and very little to see or grab the interest. Overpriced for what was on offer. It was a rainy day but could have done without some children running riot, not the museum's fault but certainly spoiled the enjoyment for others.

We're very sorry that you didn't enjoy your visit. We currently have a special touring exhibition 'Viking Heroes' which is very child friendly along with our permanent galleries displaying local art and history, so we do try to cater for everyone. Rainy days do tend to be busy days.

It's a small museum (by the standards of British Museum or Louvre) but I enjoyed the visit and the collections of artefacts (from Iron age, Bronze age, Vikings period, Romans period etc.) and there're a lot of informative items available about the collectors and some folk superstitions of Guernsey. I am sure that it will be a good place for school children to learn history. The art gallery was nice too with a mix of old and modern art! The cafe is great too with a view of the Victor Hugo Garden and the staff were very friendly!

Loved this museum! They’ve packed so much history and culture into a relatively small space in such an engaging way that’s interesting for both adults and children.
I especially loved the folklore section and how well that was done with all the interactive elements.
The brilliant photography exhibition is also well worth a visit, as is the café

The Guernsey Museum is located at Candie Gardens . The museum is partly interactive and depicts the history of Guernsey. Language is a nice part of it but also the theme about folklore, superstition and myths.
There is also a beautiful Art Gallery to view. Wide range of souvenirs and a restaurant.

Worth the £6 a head to visit. All on one floor in different history sections from 10000 years BC to the present day. Great maps, graphics and inter active displays. Something of the folklore of the island included. We saw the annual photograph exhibition which was STUNNING. Well worth visiting. There’s a café ad well if you want a coffee and a good 🏬 shop!

Informative exhibits about the history and culture of the island. This place would really benefit from an audio tour to tell the “story” of the island as there isn’t a clear route to follow. The Beatles art exhibition was cool but the room it was in was freezing. Cafe fine, reasonable price. Candie Gardens really not worth it. Museum is worth a short visit

This place was bigger than I expected it to be, and with more to see - history, some ancient stuff, a bit of culture and some interesting folklore tales, ghosts, witches and fairies etc.
I did not bother with the art.
There are decent toilets and a gift shop.
