Great to see and help endangered species
We always visit the zoo when we go to Jersey as our contributions help look after the animals. The green snake 🐍, Rishi, is still there and the reptile house is always worth a visit. The Gorilla enclosure in particular is worth going to and you may see the gorillas get angry and make a lot of noise. Go there and support the animals please, you won’t regret it.

    Sleep over at the zoo
We glamped for four nights at jersey zoo. It's not cheap and its self catering and basically, you're in a tent. But the tent is huge, has a proper bed and a romantic wood burning stove. On the same platform you have another tent containing your kitchen, toilet and shower. You also get a table with an umbrella and four chairs and also 2 sun lounger beds. There's no fridge but there's a cool box and fresh cold packs are available from the big fridge at the nearby office. There's a toaster and 2 ring electric hob. If it's raining the table will fit into the kitchen. The visitors we had were a red squirrel, hedgehog, toads [always outside!] and a robin who would fly into the tent to see what was up. One early morning the sun was coming up , my partner was coming back from the loo and shouted for me. Our tent was the closest to the zoo fence and about 20 yards away there were 5 ring tailed lemurs sitting sunbathing in a tree!!! They just ignored us and were very relaxed. So relaxed, one of them fell out of the tree but the others just looked at him. We ate in the zoo at about 5 everyday but would have bacon sandwiches later on. The food in the zoo is good. We had such a good time we're going back next year. There's a lot going on in the zoo and we want to see the outcome. Can't recommend the glamping enough.

    Fantastic Jersey Zoo
Bats & Butterflies were my favourite to see & experience up close and hear talks by keepers on the day. My second attempt to visit Zoo as Friday 1st April closed due to very high winds(first time in it's history). Staff welcoming, Hannah on Cranes, Ben on Bats and Judith (office) who helped me with locating talks. If they could put location with list of talks and signage at location, would make it easy to find, otherwise thoroughly enjoyable whole day, well spent. Thank you Jersey Zoo, I will be back Marion

    Excellent visit
Very well kept, clean and animals clearly loved by the staff. Visited on a cold day so a lot of the animals were indoors which is understandable! Super cafe if a little on the pricey side. Would recommend.

    Visit spoiled.
The Zoo is terrific, well laid out and easy to navigate, the patches are well designed and of sound structure. What let the place down for me was the combined male and female toilets in the coffee shop, it’s not right, there were young girls using them at the same time as men, this is unnecessary and irresponsible, I do hope this is rectified soon. Apart from this it’s a great day out

    Worth a visit
Small enough to walk around in half a day.Enclosures allow good viewing. Check feeding times as this allows closer views of the animals. Easy to access by bus fromSt.Helier. Excellent cafe .very good service and tasty food. Good value for money.

    Fabulous conservation zoo
Fascinating visit and much more than a zoo …it is really a conservation organisation with the zoo. Know for the gorillas and they are wonderful to see. Quite a number of the animals are in their winter accommodation so some of the areas have empty enclosures but it doesn’t detract from the overall enjoyment. Situated in a beautifully kept large park. We spent a whole day there and loved it

A zoo missing the Big 5
We enjoyed walking round the zoo, but compared to the John Aspinal zoos, we thought this was way behind. No elephants, rhinocerous, hippopotamus l, giraffe or big cats. It was pitiful to see one of the bears rocking too and fro (which the zoo explained as a hormonal change, but we thought it was through boredom). The Orang u tans also looked unhappy, but most other animals had good space to roam. We enjoyed the day, but wouldn't return.

    A great day out
Had a fabulous day at Jersey Zoo. Grounds are beautiful despite the fact it was a wet and miserable day. Wanted to make a special mention for James who looks after the tortoises, he was brilliant and a credit to the zoo. I’ve learned lots about tortoises, something I never thought I would say.

    Great day out
Although this is a small zoo it has so much to see and learn about. The orangutans, gibbons and bears are always very entertaining and a huge attraction.. There are regular talks from the keepers and feeding times to witness and the whole place is a lovely day out. It’s very accessible and the cafes have some nice food, ice creams etc. I’ve always been a fan of Gerald Durrell books (founder of the zoo) and have been twice. It doesn’t disappoint.

No France this year so as part of our staycation we did a couple of nights glamping at the zoo. Lovely welcome from Adam, stayed in the Ring Tailed Lemur yurt and loved it. Spent a whole day wondering around the zoo, did all the keeper talks and an after hours tour (Homer the Hornbill was very friendly!) and had a very good Thai takeaway (pizzas for the boys) from the Firefly cafe. Breakfast there was very good too. Would recommend it as something completely different for visitors and locals alike - spacious area with privacy, very comfortable beds (the wood burner was needed to keep it cosy at night) proper shower and toilet facilities, right next to the lemur enclosure (you can see them all sitting in a tree early morning sunbathing) and 2 minutes walk from the zoo entrance, you can come and go as you please. Oh yes and there’s WiFi!
Great way to start off our hols.

A zoo is a zoo right? Well that is what i thought when i got to Jersey zoo. A lot of people had recommended it but having been to many zoos i had the kind of same expectation. On arrival it also didnt look that big so assumed we would be in and out quite quickly.
But i was surprised!
The best thing about Jersey zoo in my opinion is the fact you can see the animals outside in their own environment. There is lots of space, and you can view the larger animals such as orangutans and gorillas from outside rather than just behind glass. It doesnt sound like much difference but it definitely makes for a better experience. And not very busy so we had lots of opportunity to wait and watch the animals.
Spent a lot more time than expected with the orangutans and gorillas. Some areas werent open due to conona but that didnt spoil the expereince. Would definitely recommend for a day out. We spend about 3.5 hours there and for the cost of £40 we thought that was good value.

Good morning l0u1919, Thank you very much for taking the time to write such a nice review of Jersey Zoo. I am delighted to hear that you enjoyed your visit so much and made the most of your day with us. I completely agree with you about our animal homes. We keep them all as large and natural as possible, this means the animals stay happy and healthy but also the public have fantastic opportunities to get closer to our animals. The zoo offers a lot of different animal experiences, there is a new baby gorilla which the kids were mesmerised by. The enclosures all seem perfect size and lots of natural habitats, which is sometimes not always the case at zoos. Butterfly enclosure is also good, with the butterflies landing on you and it is a good learning experience for the kids. It may seem expensive on first look, but it fills a day and you can take a picnic in to keep costs down. We live going back year after year..

The Durrell zoo is a must see attraction whilst you are in Jersey. I’m not the biggest fan of zoos but this is more of an animal conservation park with large outdoor ‘habitat’ enclosures.

The highlight of the visit for us was the Gorillas - there is a baby gorilla there at the moment who is super cute! And the orangutans who were mischief personified

You can spend as much or as little time at the zoo as you want as there us plenty to see and do. I would recommend trying to catch one (or all!) of the keeper talks that are on throughout the day; they really highlight how much the keepers care for the animals that are in their charge, and the talks can combine with feeding time too!

The cafe in the main entrance has a nice range of sandwiches, hot food and cakes and the sandwiches aren’t pre-packed, they are freshly made and served with Jersey Royal potatoes!

The liberty buses pull straight into the zoo car park itself so it’s very easy to get there even if you don’t have a car.

Highly recommend a visit.

Good morning Karen013, Thank you very much for leaving such a fantastic review. We are very proud that we go far above and beyond the "typical Zoo" experience. The Keeper talks are a brilliant way to engage with our experienced keeping staff and the animals in their care so it's great to hear you went to all of these. A lovely zoo, with friendly knowledgable staff would went out of their way to help.
clean , and well kept with lovely gardens. The restaurant was very clean with reasonable prices. I asked if there was any bottled water ( we bought coffee and a cold drink and a baguette) the lovely lad on the checkout said no but then offered to fill our bottles with tap water free.
We stayed in St brelaides bay and travelled to the zoo by bus . The fare was £2 one way with a change of bus at St Helier , an absolute bargain for an hour and a half bus journey.
The zoo was founded by Gerald Durrell and work on conservation of endangered species. There were organised talks on the orangutans and gorillas . A lovely day out. Would recommend

Good afternoon julie8152, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us your feedback. From reading your lovely review, it's clear that you enjoyed your day with us and that the staff really went over and above which is something we pride ourselves on. As you have already noted about our history, I hope you had a chance to visit our fascinating Gerald Durrell Story exhibit which is a small museum designed by Dr Lee Durrell celebrating all the achievements and history of our Founder and the Trust up to present day. If not it's a brilliant excuse to return in the future! We hope to see you back soon. Kind regards Will

This is a must do if you're in Jersey. Just for the gorillas if nothing else! It's not a big zoo, you could walk around it quite quickly, but I would recommend listening to the keeper's talks, particularly about the gorillas and the orang utans. The food in the cafeteria is good, big portions too.

I'm an animal lover and have been to some zoo's where they are kept in small spaces and are clearly quite stressed. For this reason I'm reluctant to try new zoo's.

This one was brilliant. Most of the animals seemed content and had plenty of space which was good to see. For the same reason (spacious enclosures) we didn't get to see all of the animals. But if you are an animal lover, this is something you should understand and accept as part and parcel of them being looked after well. If you go at the feeding times you have a better chance of seeing them.

We got to see lots of rare species I hadn't seen before along with all time favourites. The baby gorilla was beautiful!

We travelled by bus (easily accessible) and were here for about 2 hours. There were certain parts closed and talks not on due to coronavirus. Don't let it put you off-- it can't be helped and the zoo needs visitors at this time to secure the future. Having said that, I do think we would have spent longer under normal circumstances.

We didn't try the cafe but it looked nice. The gift shop was good and not overly pricey I don't think, for a zoo anyway!

We visited on a rainy day in June which isn't ideal, but still had a great day out. We caught the bus from St Helier Bus Station and it took us to the doors of the zoo for the princely sum of £2! We went to the reptile and amphibian house and then the rain stopped and we were able to wander. We enjoyed the keepers talk at the orangutan enclosure, he clearly loved his job and the animals. The enclosures are very large with lots for them to do. The gorillas were wonderful to see tucking in to their food. The bat cave was fascinating and the keeper chatted about them and what they do. A highlight too was the butterfly house, so peaceful and so many gorgeous butterflies that you were able to walk among. Everything is beautifully landscaped and looked after and we really enjoyed the day.

Good afternoon Wightflyer, Thank you very much for your feedback. It is great to hear that the weather didn't dampen your spirits and you still enjoyed your day with us. The excellent bus links really are a huge help to many of our visitors. The keeper talks are a fantastic way to gain a real insight into the work our keepers do with our animals here at the Zoo and at our projects around world. They are incredibly knowledgeable and engaging and are more than happy to answer any questions you might have. As every keeper gives a different talk based on their own experiences and knowledge we highly recommend that you visit them more than once! The Butterfly Kaleidoscope is one of our newest and most engaging exhibits. A number of our teams worked hard in co-ordination to ensure it is a multi sensory habitat and educational experience so it is great to hear that it was one of your favourites. Thank you for your support and kind comments, we look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Kind regards Will

At first I felt the £66 entry fee for 2 adults/16 yr old/OAP was a bit steep. But 4.5 hours later it was one of the nicest zoos I've been to. The orangutans and gorillas make up for no lions, tigers , zebras and giraffes. The keeper talks were a pleasure. There are tons endangered species that are just beautiful. The best reptiles I've seen and I don't like reptiles much. The birds are just delightful. Explore every inch, it's a very well laid out zoo with play areas for younger people and 2 cafe zones with good, tasty well priced food. Car park is free too. The story of Gerald Durrell and how the zoo came about is definitely not to be missed in the little exhibition room near the house. Also fun fact Henry Cavill aka Superman is a patron and a Jerseyite.

We've been visiting Durrell for many years and will continue to go for nostalgia and the aye-aye lemurs but it feels in decline. The habitats mean lots of the animals are invisible and improvement work meant some animals were off view completely. While the restaurant is still good the old, glorious, display of cakes is gone and the customer service has diminished. On the mainland, the zoo would not do so well as so many other small zoos are doing so much more. Durrell trades on its famous founder and being the only zoo on Jersey. If you're not jnto zoos, I'd recommend skipping it nowadays as it's very expensive for what it offers.
