Going to the Zoo, How about you.
Jersey Zoo (Durrell Wildlife Centre) A very interesting time spent in the zoo with good size areas for the animals and birds and reptiles. Conservation is to the fore in this zoo which is in a large area to cover. The entry price is £16.00 and it would have been nice to have a single sheet map to navigate the zoo instead of having to pay a further £3.00 for a detailed map. Well worth the visit. Lovely small zoo
Great interesting small zoo. Lovely setting. Easy to get to on the bus from St Helier . Was nice and quiet when we went but the weather wasn’t great so most animals were inside. Very interesting and informative displays . Cafe was good. Would recommend.

Good day out even in winter
We had a lovely day out here. We went over Christmas and although chilly it was great to see and listen to the zoo staffs engaging people with talks and information. Its really well laid out with areas to picnic or to do as we did and have a takeaway coffee whilst wandering around. Would live to visit again in summer. The zoo had a variety of visitors some with mobility issues which seemed well catered with paths and ramps. Enjoyed it very much and the admission charge is a good price for the time we spent there.

The most intimate zoo I have visited.
Beautifully laid out, with stunning trees and flowers. The animals seemed well-kept and happy, and viewing was easy - if they were out! Animal welfare seems paramount. The staff are knowledgable and friendly and spent time answering questions about the animals. Lots of conservation information dotted about the grounds, the history of the place, and its successes and for the future.

    Love this zoo
Jersey zoo is a lovely place to visit. The food was delicious and worth the money. Plenty do see and do for little ones. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see the flamingos on this trip as it was shut for cleaning. The staff are really friendly. The conservation side of it is amazing.

A wonderful zoo a must see in Jersey
This is a lovely conservation zoo. The animals are well cared for and seem really happy in their surroundings. Loved seeing the Gorilla's and Orangutans up close there are some very unusual amphibians that are endangered and very rare to see in other zoos .I loved the fruit bats too. A must see is the Gerald Durrell story there was an extremely informative lovely lady volunteer giving us lots of information, volunteers are a credit to this zoo. Lots of information on Gerald Durrell an amazing person who has left this wonderful legacy.

    Jersey Zoo
We had made the trip to Jersey especially to visit this Zoo. Jersey Zoo is incredibly easy to get to with regular buses from St Heliers. The entrance fee is very reasonable, with various options, concession's and family tickets. The Zoo itself is quite large, I would say that you need to give yourself at least 4hrs. The facilities are all clean and well signed. There’s plenty of toilets and there are changing areas and disabled toilets. There’s also a large restaurant with plenty of options for both hot and cold food on the menus. It is child friendly with plenty of high chairs. We found that the whole sustainability ethos flows throughout the Zoo. The fact that there are students learning their craft and that the zoo is highly engaged in research and reintroducing animals to the wild make this incredibly valuable place, and well worth visiting. The staff we met were all friendly, helpful and informative. The enclosures are generous and well maintained. With clear information and facts about the animals. The animals all looked healthy and happy. And seemed contented and relaxed. We had a wonderful day and however you feel about zoos this is a very special place..we will be returning soon.

Tick the box and visit Durrell's Zoo.
I really enjoyed this trip. Wanted to go for years, and it did not disappoint. We had a car so that helped as it is to the north of the island. I think signposting could be better to be picky. Everything was further than you think and the signs don't seem to link up. However, tick box ticked. Nice day.

    A good day out
A great day out. Good bus service from St Helier. A must visit is the Fruit Bats which are an endangered species. At the time they had around 97 bats. The talk was most informative. Nice cafe as well.

    Intimate without being Bored
We arrived here for opening on a beautiful sunny day with our 9-year-old twins. They absolutely loved their visit - and the orangutans were our favourite enclosure. Not too massive for their little legs and a good range of animals to see. Rangers also good with letting us see some of the creatures get fed. Cafe very pricey but a good range of things to choose from. Clean toilets and a play area for the kids to wind up their afternoon. Excellent bus links too for visitors. Worth the visit!

No France this year so as part of our staycation we did a couple of nights glamping at the zoo. Lovely welcome from Adam, stayed in the Ring Tailed Lemur yurt and loved it. Spent a whole day wondering around the zoo, did all the keeper talks and an after hours tour (Homer the Hornbill was very friendly!) and had a very good Thai takeaway (pizzas for the boys) from the Firefly cafe. Breakfast there was very good too. Would recommend it as something completely different for visitors and locals alike - spacious area with privacy, very comfortable beds (the wood burner was needed to keep it cosy at night) proper shower and toilet facilities, right next to the lemur enclosure (you can see them all sitting in a tree early morning sunbathing) and 2 minutes walk from the zoo entrance, you can come and go as you please. Oh yes and there’s WiFi!
Great way to start off our hols.

A zoo is a zoo right? Well that is what i thought when i got to Jersey zoo. A lot of people had recommended it but having been to many zoos i had the kind of same expectation. On arrival it also didnt look that big so assumed we would be in and out quite quickly.
But i was surprised!
The best thing about Jersey zoo in my opinion is the fact you can see the animals outside in their own environment. There is lots of space, and you can view the larger animals such as orangutans and gorillas from outside rather than just behind glass. It doesnt sound like much difference but it definitely makes for a better experience. And not very busy so we had lots of opportunity to wait and watch the animals.
Spent a lot more time than expected with the orangutans and gorillas. Some areas werent open due to conona but that didnt spoil the expereince. Would definitely recommend for a day out. We spend about 3.5 hours there and for the cost of £40 we thought that was good value.

The zoo offers a lot of different animal experiences, there is a new baby gorilla which the kids were mesmerised by. The enclosures all seem perfect size and lots of natural habitats, which is sometimes not always the case at zoos. Butterfly enclosure is also good, with the butterflies landing on you and it is a good learning experience for the kids. It may seem expensive on first look, but it fills a day and you can take a picnic in to keep costs down. We live going back year after year..

The Durrell zoo is a must see attraction whilst you are in Jersey. I’m not the biggest fan of zoos but this is more of an animal conservation park with large outdoor ‘habitat’ enclosures.

The highlight of the visit for us was the Gorillas - there is a baby gorilla there at the moment who is super cute! And the orangutans who were mischief personified

You can spend as much or as little time at the zoo as you want as there us plenty to see and do. I would recommend trying to catch one (or all!) of the keeper talks that are on throughout the day; they really highlight how much the keepers care for the animals that are in their charge, and the talks can combine with feeding time too!

The cafe in the main entrance has a nice range of sandwiches, hot food and cakes and the sandwiches aren’t pre-packed, they are freshly made and served with Jersey Royal potatoes!

The liberty buses pull straight into the zoo car park itself so it’s very easy to get there even if you don’t have a car.

Highly recommend a visit.

Good morning Karen013, Thank you very much for leaving such a fantastic review. We are very proud that we go far above and beyond the "typical Zoo" experience. The Keeper talks are a brilliant way to engage with our experienced keeping staff and the animals in their care so it's great to hear you went to all of these. A lovely zoo, with friendly knowledgable staff would went out of their way to help.
clean , and well kept with lovely gardens. The restaurant was very clean with reasonable prices. I asked if there was any bottled water ( we bought coffee and a cold drink and a baguette) the lovely lad on the checkout said no but then offered to fill our bottles with tap water free.
We stayed in St brelaides bay and travelled to the zoo by bus . The fare was £2 one way with a change of bus at St Helier , an absolute bargain for an hour and a half bus journey.
The zoo was founded by Gerald Durrell and work on conservation of endangered species. There were organised talks on the orangutans and gorillas . A lovely day out. Would recommend

If not it's a brilliant excuse to return in the future! We hope to see you back soon. Kind regards Will

This is a must do if you're in Jersey. Just for the gorillas if nothing else! It's not a big zoo, you could walk around it quite quickly, but I would recommend listening to the keeper's talks, particularly about the gorillas and the orang utans. The food in the cafeteria is good, big portions too.

I'm an animal lover and have been to some zoo's where they are kept in small spaces and are clearly quite stressed. For this reason I'm reluctant to try new zoo's.

This one was brilliant. Most of the animals seemed content and had plenty of space which was good to see. For the same reason (spacious enclosures) we didn't get to see all of the animals. But if you are an animal lover, this is something you should understand and accept as part and parcel of them being looked after well. If you go at the feeding times you have a better chance of seeing them.

We got to see lots of rare species I hadn't seen before along with all time favourites. The baby gorilla was beautiful!

We travelled by bus (easily accessible) and were here for about 2 hours. There were certain parts closed and talks not on due to coronavirus. Don't let it put you off-- it can't be helped and the zoo needs visitors at this time to secure the future. Having said that, I do think we would have spent longer under normal circumstances.

We didn't try the cafe but it looked nice. The gift shop was good and not overly pricey I don't think, for a zoo anyway!

We visited on a rainy day in June which isn't ideal, but still had a great day out. We caught the bus from St Helier Bus Station and it took us to the doors of the zoo for the princely sum of £2! We went to the reptile and amphibian house and then the rain stopped and we were able to wander. We enjoyed the keepers talk at the orangutan enclosure, he clearly loved his job and the animals. The enclosures are very large with lots for them to do. The gorillas were wonderful to see tucking in to their food. The bat cave was fascinating and the keeper chatted about them and what they do. A highlight too was the butterfly house, so peaceful and so many gorgeous butterflies that you were able to walk among. Everything is beautifully landscaped and looked after and we really enjoyed the day.

Good afternoon Wightflyer, Thank you very much for your feedback. It is great to hear that the weather didn't dampen your spirits and you still enjoyed your day with us. The excellent bus links really are a huge help to many of our visitors. The keeper talks are a fantastic way to gain a real insight into the work our keepers do with our animals here at the Zoo and at our projects around world. They are incredibly knowledgeable and engaging and are more than happy to answer any questions you might have. As every keeper gives a different talk based on their own experiences and knowledge we highly recommend that you visit them more than once! The Butterfly Kaleidoscope is one of our newest and most engaging exhibits. A number of our teams worked hard in co-ordination to ensure it is a multi sensory habitat and educational experience so it is great to hear that it was one of your favourites. Thank you for your support and kind comments, we look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Kind regards Will

At first I felt the £66 entry fee for 2 adults/16 yr old/OAP was a bit steep. But 4.5 hours later it was one of the nicest zoos I've been to. The orangutans and gorillas make up for no lions, tigers , zebras and giraffes. The keeper talks were a pleasure. There are tons endangered species that are just beautiful. The best reptiles I've seen and I don't like reptiles much. The birds are just delightful. Explore every inch, it's a very well laid out zoo with play areas for younger people and 2 cafe zones with good, tasty well priced food. Car park is free too. The story of Gerald Durrell and how the zoo came about is definitely not to be missed in the little exhibition room near the house. Also fun fact Henry Cavill aka Superman is a patron and a Jerseyite.

We've been visiting Durrell for many years and will continue to go for nostalgia and the aye-aye lemurs but it feels in decline. The habitats mean lots of the animals are invisible and improvement work meant some animals were off view completely. While the restaurant is still good the old, glorious, display of cakes is gone and the customer service has diminished. On the mainland, the zoo would not do so well as so many other small zoos are doing so much more. Durrell trades on its famous founder and being the only zoo on Jersey. If you're not jnto zoos, I'd recommend skipping it nowadays as it's very expensive for what it offers.
