A lovely walk, but a bit of TLC is needed.

There is plenty free parking at the top entrance and easy to walk sand/gravel paths. The views of the reservoir are lovely and we had a relaxed and peaceful family walk that was enjoyed by all.
The only thing I would say is that, although there is an information board at the entrance about the special tree planting areas, it is actually quite tricky to get near many of the special trees as the small side paths are rather overgrown.
Having said that, we enjoyed the views and the quiet and would definitely recommend this as a lovely place to walk.

Take a trip through the arboretum
Follow the southern shore of the lake, then down past the dam and into the valley
Walk the lanes to the shore and turn North
Walk the beach to the Kempt Tower
Back inland and up the hill to St Ouens Mill
Through the village and back down to the reservoir
Follow the Eastern path around and back to the arboretum.
Head home satisfied! :-)

Lovely stroll !

Lovely place to stroll through the varied trees from around the world down to the reservoir.
A bit overgrown now and needs more management but you can see this is starting to be tackled.
Free to walk around and interesting. A lovely relaxing half day outing.

Great for walks

Very nice wooded area and reservoir. There are several optional paths, each with different types of tree. Takes about an hour to walk around everything if you are quick and don't stop.

Lovely walk with interesting trees

The walk through the arboretum takes you down to a reservoir. It is possible to walk around that, though parts are not easy. The arboretum section has an easy route through, with modest gradients, though. Plants are grouped by type or region and are reasonably-well labelled. The carpark is a decent size

Beautiful walk with added wildlife by reservoir

Fascinating Arboretum with interesting trees . A little overgrown in places so walking wasn’t easy but I guess better at different times of year. Walk by the reservoir at end of Arboretum made more interesting by seeing birds of prey quite close , shag’s and herons .

I am not sure how many times I have now completed this walk through the Arboretum and round Val De La Mare reservoir. Its always worth the walk. Good views across St Ouen's Bay from the dam side and interesting birdlife both on the water and in the woods. The summer dawn chorus is not to be missed however I accept that a 4:30 am visit is not for all!

Certainly forgotten but some fabulous trees and a lovely place for a quiet walk ... some amazing specimens from all over the world, must have been incredible in its heyday.
