I've been to zoos all over the USA and Europe. This is one of the best.

Super clean newer facilities and infrastructure. Healthy animals in roomy enclosures. Knowledgable friendly staff. Family owned. Beautiful surroundings. This zoo is living proof that you don't need government funding to create a beautiful animal exhibit.

We visited the zoo on Good Friday 2022 and were pleasantly surprised with how big it is / how much there is to see. The staff in the ticket booth, the lady out front and the lady at the snack counter were very enjoyable. The staff in the gift shop weren’t bad but not great, however the lady who conducts the giraffe encounter was very rude. Very rude to guests and very rude. She seemed as if she hated her job and was very rushed. Other than this experience we loved the zoo. The animals seem happy and well taken care of.

We visited this zoo with a 9 month old and a 2 year old. The zoo itself is fantastic. The walkways are nice and wide, perfect for strollers or wheelchairs. The exhibits are wonderful. My only complaint is their food policy. You cannot bring food into the zoo. I understand this but I was bothered that I could not bring a baby food pouch for my 9 month old. He does eat some food but we do steamed food for him instead of fried. I showed the worker my pouch of baby food and was told I would have to feed him in the parking lot. My husband wasn’t able to come to this zoo trip so I had to leave my toddler with someone else in our party so that I could go feed my 9 month old a pouch in the parking lot. If the zoo doesn’t want food brought in, I recommend offering applesauce or some healthier type of substitute for babies and toddlers. We typically do not allow our toddler to eat fried food but that is all the was on the menu except for an uncrustable. Again, zoo was great but I really think if you have a baby under 1 year of age, baby food should be allowed. I took of picture of the baby food I brought for reference.

Getting to watch my grandchildren feed the giraffes was awesome! It was truly worth the low admission cost.

We traveled an hour to come on Memorial Day and got there at approximately 3:40 knowing good and well we would only have about an hour to walk around. Upon arrival the sign on the door said "closed". We thought maybe someone had turned the sign by accident so I went and the door was open. Two people were behind the counter and a family shopping so I said Oh! are you open. The girl by the computer was very rude and said no we are closed. I said oh! the thing my daughter read said 5:00pm. And again with a rude tone she said, Well, we stop entry at 3:30. No compromise, no I am sorry, I would like to thank that sweet lady for a wasted trip and a sorry attitude. May you experience this yourself somewhere so you might learn from your mistakes. P.S. I think its wrong of this establishment to charge a different price for active and retired military. My husband fought 21 years for you to have this freedom and you are putting a hirer emphasis on someone who may have only been in 3 months. Military make up 1% of the USA. Are you that cheap that you can't be thankful of them all?

Dear Patty, First and foremost I would like to apologize if one any of my staff members came across as rude in any way. We do our last entry at 3:30 and have tried to post that info in every location possible. The average guests will spend 1.5 to 2 hours in the zoo (longer if you participate in feedings, keeper chats, etc). The zoo itself does happen to close at 5:00pm. What is supposed to happen when guests enter after that 3:30 mark is for our staff to apologize and explain why we close ticket sales at 3:30. Here is a link to our hours and rates page https://brightszoo.com/index.php/plan-your-visit/hours-rates that shows our hours. Sites like Google tend to pull from our web site but fail to put in the 3:30 mark. We are working on ways to get that on those sites as well. As for military, Thank your husband from us for his service. I myself am a veteran and proudly served this great country of ours. Please feel free to call our gift shop and ask for me if you would like to discuss this any further. Our gift shop number is 423-257-1927. If I am not in the gift shop our staff will take a message and make sure that I receive it. Thank you, David Bright - Zoo Director

Tons of monkeys!!! We have been to several zoo's and never seen so many monkeys. Kids loved it. They have all kinds of animals mainly from Africa. The giraffes walk right up to fence where you stand. Place is bigger than it looks from road, was pleasantly surprised. Took us about 3 hours to go through the zoo taking our time.

Just starting to get out a bit after over a year of being locked in due to COVID. Really like the idea of visiting zoos because they are largely outdoor hours, entertaining and informative. But the larger zoos are getting to be too much for us so we have visited some smaller ones. Tiger World was great in NC. Lions, Tigers, monkeys... close viewing and very enjoyable. Decided to travel in the opposite direction and found Bright's Zoo online. Never heard of it before and decided to give it a go before considering a "family" trip with grandchildren.

Can't wait to bring the grandkids - they are going to love it! They like the big Zoo in Asheboro, NC but the animals are often out of sight or just too far away to really SEE. This zoo doesn't have lions, tigers, bears or elephants, but they have some animals we have never seen in any zoo before. The living habitats were smaller, but the animals were clearly healthy and active. The zookeepers were obviously protective of their charges - - no running, screaming, banging on cages or knocking on glass allowed. Because of that, the animals were relaxed and appeared to be quite happy being on display. Most of them got within 20 feet of the walkways, easy to see and study. In that way it was much nicer than a trip to the larger zoos.

My favorite part just happened to be inside the building where the smaller monkeys live. The glass partition that divided them from us just happened to have some small insect climbing on OUR side - - and four small balck monkeys were trying to catch it - - were quite amusing as they took turns trying to touch it, catch it, snack on it. Once the bug left, dropped to the floor, I recovered it and put it back on the glass. The monkeys smiled, screeched with happiness and kept grabbing at the bug. Truly made a memory there. They were interacting with people, as friends.

The park was immaculate, the cages in good repair. I wished there were more toys out for the animals but they did seem to have appropriate materials in most cages. The "sidewalk" type pathways were so welcome (I have seen older people trip in other zoos with dirt pathways). Motorized wheelchair would have no problem in this park. Restrooms at enterence large and easily accessible, very clean.

My one true suggestion would be that more seating be offered throughout the park. I would have enjoyed being able to sit just to enjoy watching the beautiful day pass, the animals enjoying their days.

We expect to be back in a few weeks with the rest of the family. The cost was, in my opinion, appropriate. The animals a very nice collection. The workers clearly there for the benefit and protection of the animals, not unfriendly at all, but not going to let the animals be distressed in any way.

This zoo is a little piece of Heaven, I hope it stays that way.

We have annual passes and frequently visit this zoo. The animals are well taken care of and the keepers are very knowledgeable about the animals. Animal interactions are available for a small extra fee - you can feed the giraffes, lorakeets and goats. There's also gem mining with several different options at different prices available. The gift shop and concessions are reasonably priced. The restrooms are the cleanest public restrooms I've ever been in.
