We stopped here after visting Glendalough on our way to Dublin through Sallys gap.
Not too far drive for anyone visting Glendalough nice place to stop and watch the gorgoues waterfall. You cant go neat thw waterfall as its on private land but even viewing from a distance was a pleasant sight.

We were driving Sally Gap/Old Military Rd and came around a bend and saw this waterfall ahead of us a ways. Surprise, surprise. We could not park as folks had parked helter skelter. I did take some pics . This is on our list for our next trip

We have visited Glenmacnass in 2018 and 2019. Both times were completely different.
The summer of 2018 was a very good year with water restrictions in place. When we went to the top of the waterfall there was very little water running. Even the streams which run into the falls were dry.
Summer 2019 not just as good, no droughts this year. When we went to the waterfall this July there was more water to be seen. We stayed with friends near the waterfall and we have seen photos of the falls in full flow.
Where there is bare rock showing, the flow of water can reach those areas in the winter time of after a heavy fall of snow melts.
Powerscourt might be the highest waterfall but for us Glenmacnass is the most impressive and powerful.
There is a place to park at the top of the waterfall to park and take photos. But the best way to see the waterfall is coming up the road from Laragh, you get to see the full extent of how it can look when in full flow. Haven't been there in winter yet, one day maybe.

When you drive to Glendalough, it is a must to go a little further up the sally gap via Laragh, you can go the other way via Guinness lake, however our preference is this way, via, this rather nice falls, dont expect Victoria falls, however the scenery in this area is stunning

We visited the Glenmacnass waterfall after there had been quite heavy rain two days before and moderate rain a day before. In this state the waterfall was an impressive enough sight. While not a completely vertical drop, it's still more of a waterfall than a steep set of rapids.

Please note that if the weather has been dry lately, the waterfall may be significantly less impressive.

A bonus tip; one of the routes to see the rather beautiful heart-shaped Lough Ouler starts slightly upstream from the waterfall, so if the Glenmacnass River is low enough on water to cross safely, using a couple of hours to hike to top of Tonelagee and back will provide an additional chance for enjoying very picturesque scenery.

There are few spots down the road where you can park and enjoy the view. Lovely place, should be made accessible from the bottom. Most probably it will one day (for a small fee...).

The ride from Laragh to the waterfall is gorgeous, and affords the best views as you approach. The stream and forest at the sight ( parking lot is just above the falls) is pure refreshment! If you drive from the other direction, you would cruise right by and never see it if you didn't know to look back. We continued on to Sally Gap which is just so-so. It's a different flat, bog, terrain. I would have just turned around and gone back to town.

Wow! I never would have known about this had my mom not been so excited for my trip that she searched high and low to make sure I saw everything while I was there! The waterfall is allegedly a 15 minute drive from the Monastic Village- not quite! As an American, the roads in Ireland are a shock- extremely narrow in addition to being on the opposite side! It was honestly terrifying to get to the top, however, it was so worth it. The photos can't even begin to show how beautiful the site is. It is definitely worth the trip. Just drive slow and if you're traveling with someone, have them keep an eye to the left side to make sure you aren't overcorrecting! There is a car park at the very top of the falls and you can walk back down from there.

Considering the waterfall starts way back as a trickle, the amazing view and sounds as it cascades over the rocks makes it a worthwhile stop to get some great photos.
The crystal clear water looked almost drinkable ( not that we would). Take time to get close to the falls.
