- Niki W1 contributionI was very excited to ride horses in Ireland. We booked a private tour with Wiklow Equitours and while it was gorgeous, I have notes. Usually when I go on a trail ride, the guide will either make an effort to my name or call me by my horse’s name when addressing me. There were only two of us on this private tour and the guide kept referring to us as “madam” and “lady.” That made it confusing when we were out on the trail. My mom and I have experience riding western style. This tour was English style. That’s fine, but the guide wouldn’t give us instructions until we were in the middle of a task- like trotting. Then she was frustrated when we would get nervous. The worst part was when my mom’s horse decided to go off on its own. When the guide and I realized she was missing, she told me to “stay there” and rode away. My horse was not okay with that and would take off after her. I feel for the guide, that must have been scary, but I didn’t feel the situation was handled in the best or safest way. She caught up with my mom’s horse and removed its bit. When the horse decided to run off AGAIN, my mom had no way to steer. We were on roads at that point, and she was afraid of coming face to face with a car. At one point, the guide took a photo of my mom and I on our horses using her own phone. Because she had done that, and because our little adventure got her back to the stable late for the next ride, she wouldn’t take a photo of us with our own phones. She keeps saying she sent me the photos, but I haven’t received them, so I am not sure why she won’t send them via email or a different way. Since everything turned out just fine, it’s a funny story to my mom and I. Again, the views are gorgeous. But if you are not comfortable riding English style, speak up BEFORE your ride so they can review instructions with you before you take off.Visited October 2024Traveled with familyWritten November 4, 2024
- Sophie R1 contributionThis was one of the best riding experiences I've had and I've been riding for 20+ years. Michael picked us up at Wicklow station with a warm welcome and then we went to the farm to pick up the horses before going down to Brittas Bay. The weather was amazing, the horses well behaved and Michel adapted the tour after our experience level. He also really cares for and loves his horses and has some good stories to tell which makes it feel wholesome and genuine. I warmly recommend going here for a memory for a lifetime.Visited March 2024Traveled with friendsWritten March 24, 2024
- Pamina B1 contributionI did the beach hack with my 8 year old daughter and it was a wonderful experience for us both. We had so much 🤩 fun. Brittas Bay is just so beautiful and we were lucky with the weather. The horses were bulletproof, lots of dogs approached us but no spooking at all.Visited October 2024Traveled with familyWritten October 29, 2024
- Valentina L56 contributionsThis was my second time riding an horse. Ok... something went wrong during my ride with all the people in the wood. I totally fricked out....but that was not the horse fault either the owner. That was totally me. And only me. The owners were excellent in reassuring me and the horse and made sure i was ok till the end. I'm grateful for that. They were stars. Horses are very clever and that day I carried with me some trouble and worries about my family and the horse felt that... I was terrified but they were with me all the way. I want to come back and connect with the horse. And trust each others. Thanks for being so patient with me and supporting and understanding. I will be back stronger. I have not ridden in 13 years and the lovely CJ looked after me so well. Mick was really entertaining and we had a great time. Animals are well looked after and hugged by staff. I was a bit nervous to start but got lots of encouragement. Beautiful trek through forest. Really enjoyed every minute. Good value. Will definitely return. 5 stars day out.Visited July 2024Traveled with friendsWritten July 30, 2024

I am extremely disappointed with the service I received from Wicklow Equi Tours. I purchased two vouchers for a forest horse trek with sea views through LivingSocial, expecting a pleasant experience in the beautiful Wicklow countryside. Unfortunately, what I encountered was a series of unprofessional behaviors and misleading practices that I feel compelled to warn others about.
Here’s what happened:
Initial Booking Issues: I first attempted to book the trek using the vouchers purchased through LivingSocial. Wicklow Equi Tours initially claimed that the voucher codes didn’t work. To resolve this, I sent them copies of the vouchers, which clearly showed they were purchased through LivingSocial. After reviewing these, they accepted the vouchers without any further issues and confirmed my booking for August 15th, 2024, stating it was "no problem." This confirmed that they were fully aware the vouchers were from LivingSocial, and they proceeded with the booking without hesitation.
Last-Minute Cancellation: On August 14th (the day before the booking), I emailed to confirm the trek, and Wicklow Equi Tours initially confirmed that we were still good to go. However, shortly afterward, they sent another email stating they had a competition and that the trek would need to be rescheduled. Unfortunately, I didn’t see this email until after I had already made the 1.5-hour journey to their stables, only to find no one there. When I contacted them about this inconvenience, their only response was a brief, four-word reply: "No problem, thank you." There was no apology, no acknowledgment of the significant inconvenience they caused, just a dismissive and unprofessional response.
Rebooking and Final Refusal: Despite my frustration, I attempted to rebook for a different date. Wicklow Equi Tours initially accepted my request and asked me to confirm a time. After I did so, they then informed me that they no longer accept LivingSocial vouchers. This was after they had previously accepted these vouchers twice and were fully aware of their origin. What makes this situation even more frustrating is that these vouchers are still valid and continue to be sold on the LivingSocial website. This means that customers can still purchase these vouchers, spend their money, and then be refused service by Wicklow Equi Tours. This behavior is not only unprofessional but also highly misleading and unfair to customers.
The lack of professionalism, communication, and basic customer service from Wicklow Equi Tours was shocking. They never apologised for the inconvenience they caused, and their sudden refusal to honor valid vouchers that they had initially accepted is completely unacceptable. I would strongly advise others to avoid this company.
This experience was a complete letdown, and I hope this review helps others avoid a similar situation.

We booked our trek online on the morning of which I appreciate was late notice but the website showed availability and allowed me to book. I assumed the booking was then received by the business.
When we arrived the lady was really angry with the additional people that that turned up. She was prepared for 2 but 8 people arrived and she was very vocal about her annoyance and the lack of communication within the business. As a result we waited a long time for the horses to be ready which really wasn't an issue but it was the visible anger of having us arrive that caused awkwardness. The trek itself was lovely and my son loved it but had asked "where we in trouble" when he could hear the lady giving out about the people who turned up. As I said, the trek was lovely the helpers were great and a young boy was lovely and helpful, it's just a shame about communication. I'd be very nervous to book again.

We were so disappointed in our trip to Wicklow Equi Tours. We were told to meet the instructors at the free car park to which we arrived at 8.30 (the time we were scheduled). With no signs or indication on where to go we tried ringing the number provided after 45 minutes of no arrival, we got no answer.
About 20 minutes later we got a phone call back to say they’d be there soon, we didn’t mind the wait as we were excited for our trip.
Micheal was very negative from the beginning, complaining about past customers and how people are ‘sensitive’ when he touches them. We had a German instructor and he spoke to her horribly! She had told Micheal that the horse I was about to ride for spooked easily by the water (we were going to the beach..) and his response was to just get on the horse. We weren’t provided with any protective gear besides an old cycling helmet. I had never ridden before however we were not told anything about how to control the horse etc, so I was quite nervous heading down the road by myself.
After a slow start we took off on the beach at a very slow pace, however we were enjoying the beautiful scenery so we were content. About 45 minutes in my horse got spooked and started cantering, going wild and threw me off. I took quite a bad fall and got a shock. I had badly injured my lower back and my leg, but was told the horse just got spooked and to just walk it off and then get back on the horse.
Although I know these things happen and would never blame the horse nor the company for the horse getting spooked, it baffles me why you would let a horse spooked by water on a beach trek?
After a lot of pain I got back on the horse as I was adamant to just get back and leave this horrible experience. On our way back we were stopped by locals at the beach complaining about the horse remains left all over the beach to which she was 100% right. There was horse poo all over their beautiful beach with absolutely zero intention of the instructors ever picking it up. It sounded like it was an ongoing issue with this company all the time.
We paid €160 for the two of us, and what you get for that money is rudeness, feeling like an inconvenience and overall a bad experience. Very disappointing.

Fabulous day out with the family and made extra special by the great staff and wonderful dog (Zeus) ! Before we get to the horses, shout out to Zues who welcomed us at the gates then went on to greet us all at the stables. Furthermore, he was there for the whole trek, through the mud, rain and mountainous slopes, checking up on us and making sure we are all OK. I can't reinstate this enough, this dog is a beautiful and conscientious being that the whole family simply adore. Love you Zues 😍.
As for the trek, amazing staff, who explained everything and gave you the freedom to actually ride a horse without killing the experience. The whole family, 3 young kids and 2 adults felt trusted and were given good guidance.
This is a once in a life time experience that will make your holiday! Sure there are times where the horse doest do exactly as you want, but hey, that's part of the fun and adventure, and adds to the experience. The staff were always on hand to assist and guide you through the journey.
To sum up, do this!!! It will give you life long memories of this beautiful country and put you back in touch with your adventures spirit. The trek is remarkable, the best way to see Ireland and its amazing landscape. The forests were breath-taking and genuinely encapsulated the beauty of Ireland.

I don't know how to express how bad of an experience I had today I actually never come across such a scam ever .. arrived at 930 as advised no one showed up there was other people also waiting . Michael answered the phone at 10pm and made out like we were an inconvenience (I sure the 90 euro he took off everyone in advance was not an inconvenience) Michael then showed up at 11 finally got us to follow him to the beach made us park and believe it or not he drove off when we called him he said council told him there was to many horses on the beach there wasn't even 1 !!!! 100% a scam and I taken the next step so Michael can't get away with it !! We are adults it just wasted our day but there was young kids there and we told Michael that he said wait for it ... just worry about yourself ... I'll update this review as things develop.. and Michael they will but to anyone reading this ABSOLUTELY STAY AWAY

We booked got our confirmation paid €240 for 3 riders. The booking confirmation advised to meet in a pub car park at 8.30 for a 9.30am ride. We arrived on time, having read previous reviews I thought they may be running late so we waited. About 9.20am another group arrived who’d had text communication from somebody called Michael that he would meet them there around 9.30am. When he didn’t arrived they called him. He asked them how many people were waiting and when they told him 6 his response was ffs I’ll be another 20 minutes then. You’d think they’d know how many people they have booked they were quick enough to take my money. By 10.30am no one had still come 2 hours after we were due to meet, 1 hour after we were due to start riding and at the time we were due to have finished. We decided to drive to the beach where the riding was supposed to be. The beach was stunning but there was nobody there. I’m so pleased I hadn’t booked this with young children as they would have been so disappointed. I’m sure I’ll now have a fight to get my money back. I called the number on their website and emailed several times while we waited and could get no response. I’d had no text from Michael so no way to contact him. Please avoid this as it was a waste of a Sunday morning and a scam.

We booked a beach tour for 9am. The instructions on where to go were very vague so I called at 9 to confirm I was in the correct location. The man who answered said he’d be there in a few minutes and hung up without confirming location. At 9:20 we still hadn’t heard anything so I called back. He said “Jesus, you are impatient” and proceeded to hang up on me. At that point I wasn’t sure what to do but we decided to wait and thankfully he did show up around 9:30. I am an experienced rider but my aunt is not. There were no introductions or demonstrations at all. I did book this trip specifically because their website indicated that beginner riders would walk along the beach and advanced riders could canter. About halfway through the ride the 3 guides took off galloping with absolutely no warning. My aunt was very unstable so I instructed her how to slow down but because all of the other horses were running down the beach, her horse would not stop. The main guide’s response was to yell at her and exclaim frustration that she was not listening. The main take away here is to expect them to be late, have poor communication and provide little instruction. The ride was beautiful and in the end we both laughed and now have an interesting story to tell, but proceed with caution.

Absolute disgrace of a so called company. Booked to go with friends and received a 'text message' to say it had been cancelled. This method of contact is highly unprofessional, especially considering that I’m a paying customer.
From numerous emails and phone calls unanswered. Sorry I apologise you answered and hung up the phone because you are a coward and can't handle business professionally. Give no other choice for customers to complain on social platforms to be heard.
Scammed out of €200 and no sign of a refund. Gives no other choice than to go the guards and open an investigation!

Avoid here, it’s awful. Me and my partner experienced a great trek through the woods, but I can’t overlook the major issues of this place just because we had a good time.
Straight away on arrival into the yard, it’s nothing how it looks on the website and video, it’s a scrap heap trip hazard. I desperately needed the toilet but the one they had was out of order, so it was suggested I go take a pee in the nature. Imagine a woman of my age being sent for a pee around the back of a shed. No thank you.
There are 3 very cute dogs running about the yard, they’re very cute and very underweight. When I took a look over a gate into one of the fields, some of the horses there were underweight also, particularly the foals. All were staring into an empty feeder. It’s shocking to see.
The staff were absolutely great, but I felt sorry for them. They were rushed off their feet managing bookings they had no clue about, only for the owner to come over unpleasantly bark at them. He called one of them thick and stupid under his breath. If I was her, I’d have left there and then.
He never even acknowledged any of his customers.
Then another one of the girls completely got it in the neck at one point, the owner was shouting and swearing at her about an issue with a gate, in front of everyone. It was outrageous and humiliating for them.
In talking to one of the girls, she told me she was a volunteer there, that they all were. That shocked me even more.
The owner of this place is laughing, cutting out two major expenses – sufficient amounts of animal feed and labour costs, to line his own pockets. We regretted coming here instantly and giving this place our money. I honestly don’t know how this man is still in business. If you ride here, you’re paying into the mistreatment of animals and staff.

What a disappointment! The outing was cancelled last minute, with a five word message: "cancelled due to weather warning". However the skies were blue and clear! Then there was NO communication from the stables in response to our multiple calls to reschedule. Imagine waiting at the stable gates with a crying child... and then not being able to propose them an alternate outing? Please save yourself the misery and do not book with this tour "company".
